The Spectral Sharpness Angle of Gamma-ray Bursts

  • We explain the results of Yu et al. (2015b) of the novel sharpness angle measurement to a large number of spectra obtained from the Fermi gamma-ray burst monitor. The sharpness angle is compared to the values obtained from various representative emission models: blackbody, single-electron synchrotron, synchrotron emission from a Maxwellian or power-law electron distribution. It is found that more than 91% of the high temporally and spectrally resolved spectra are inconsistent with any kind of optically thin synchrotron emission model alone. It is also found that the limiting case, a single temperature Maxwellian synchrotron function, can only contribute up to 58+23−18% of the peak flux. These results show that even the sharpest but non-realistic case, the single-electron synchrotron function, cannot explain a large fraction of the observed spectra. Since any combination of physically possible synchrotron spectra added together will always further broaden the spectrum, emission mechanisms other than optically thin synchrotron radiation are likely required in a full explanation of the spectral peaks or breaks of the GRB prompt emission phase.

  • 최근 들어 전력 계통은 점차 복잡해지고 계통 규모 역시 빠른 속도로 성장하고 있다. 이러한 환경 하에서 전력계통의 안정적, 경제적 운영을 담당하고 있는 한국전력거래소는 EMS(Energy Management System)를 통해 실시간 전력계통에 대한 정확한 판단을 기반으로 전력계통의 안정성과 경제성 확보에 주력하고 있다. EMS의 다양한 기능 중 스카다(SCADA) 기능은 단순히 취득 데이터를 처리하는 기능뿐 아니라 인텔리젼트한 기능을 탑재하고 있는데 이중 대표적 기능이 스카다 토폴로지(SCADA Topology)라 할 수 있다. 스카다 토폴로지는 그 이름에서 알 수 있듯이 스카다에서 실시간 취득, 처리되는 아날로그와 스테이터스 데이터를 기반으로 전력계통에서 운용하는 각종 전력설비(발전기, 송전선로, 변압기, 조상설비 등)에 대한 가압 또는 무압여부를 스캔주기(2초)내에 결정하는 기능을 말한다. 현재 전력거래소는 100인치 화면 16장을 연견한 Rear Projector에 전국전력계통도 화면을 제작하여, 한눈에 전력계통의 가압 또는 무안상태를 표시 실시간 감시에 활용하고 있다. 그럼에도 국내에서는 스카다 토폴로지에 대해 소개된 논문이나 소개가 부재한 형편임을 감안하여, 본고는 스카다 토폴로지의 기본 알고리즘을 분석하여 국내 스카다 기능의 선진화에 기여하고자 한다.

Growth Characteristics of Dendropanax morbifera in Chonnam

  • This study was carried out obtain basic information for growth characteristics by different age of Dendropanax morbifera in chonnam, such as Yosu, Sunchon, Haenam, Gangjin, Wando. The pH of soil in cultivation area was 5.2 to 5.6 and organic matter was very high up to 10.6% . P205 content of soil in cultivation area was 35.3 to 42.1 mg/L, C.E.S was 13.9 to 14.4 me/100g, and moisture rate was 19.2 to 21.1 % . The flowering of Dendropanax morbifera began from 6~7 years old tree. The flowering date was at 10th of July at Wando. The growth characteristics of 12 years old tree was 929.5cm in stem height, 134.1mm in stem diameter, and 15 years old tree was 1,117.9cm in stem height, 160.8mm in stem diameter. The number of leaf was 13.9 at five years old tree, and the petioles length was 12.6 at five years old tree. Xylem sap can be had at more than 10 years old tree with good growth more than 10 em stem diameter.

  • In the Paris Climate Agreement, Korea submitted an ambitious goal of reducing the greenhouse gas emission forecast (BAU) by 37% by 2030. And as one of the countermeasures, a smart grid, an intelligent power grid, was presented. In order to apply the smart grid, EMS(Energy Management System) needs to be installed and operated in various fields, and the supply is delayed due to the lack of awareness of users and the limitations of system ROI. Therefore, recently, various data analysis and control technologies have been proposed to increase the efficiency of the installed EMS. In this study, we present a measurement control algorithm that analyzes and predicts big data collected by IoT using a SARIMA model to check and operate energy consumption of public sports facilities.

  • We developed an optimal design interface based on VBA(Visual Basic Application) that takes advantage of API(Application Program Interface) function of commonly used EM analysis software. The developed interface is adopted for an optimal design of a septum in a waveguide tee junction using PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm. The objective function of the optimal design is defined by $S_{11}$-parameter of the waveguide tee junction Design variables are established as position of the septum, that are changed to satisfy the design goal Using the developed design interface and PSO algorithm, the objective function converged to the smallest value, showing the validity of the proposed method. The design interface was developed using Microsoft Excel software, enabling easy control of design parameters for user. Also, various analysis parameters can be set in the Excel interface, including waveguide input mode and frequency. After completion of the design, field solutions at user-specified positrons can be extracted to the output files in complex number form.

  • This study was performed to investigate the influence of occlusal change on the masticatory muscle activity. 8 students without any symptom of T.M.J. dysfunction, any history of prosthodontic or orthodontic treatment on dental college of WonKwang Univ. were participated in this study. The activity of masseter and anterior temporal muscles were measured by bioelectric processor(EM2, Myotronics, Inc., U.S.A.) during voluntary maximal clenching on natural teeth, by splint with bilateral posterior surface contact, by splint with unilateral posterior surface contact, and by splint without unilateral posterior teeth contact. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. The loss of posterior contact on noe side resulted in change of the activity of anterior temporal and masseter muscle during clenching on ipsilateral side, but there was no change of muscle activity on contralateral side. 2. The activity of anterior temporal and masseter muscle during clenching were not affected by the pattern of occlusal contact. 3. There were no difference between the activity of anterior temporal and masseter miuscle during clenching by natural teeth and by occlusal splint.

  • The electronic speckle pattern interferometer (ESPI) has been applied to many technical problems such as deformation and displacement measurement, strain visualization and surface roughness monitoring. In this study, we used an ESPI system based on the dual beam speckle interferometer method in order to measure in-plane displacement and vibration mode using the ESIP technique. This research was carried out for the purpose of applying the vibration analysis method employing Electro-Optic holographic interference technique to the vibration analysis of uniform rectangular cantilevers plate(SS400,STS304) with cantilevers span to breadth ratio of 150 by 75. And thickness of 1mm and 0.8mm respectively. We improved the ESPI technique in order to obtain the distribution of displacement component resolved in one direction through a CCD camera combined with an image processing system. To certify and to assess the accuracy in measuring by this ESPI, the results obtained with the speckle method and vibration mode analysis are to be compared with those results by Warbuton's Theoretical expression and vibration made in FEM analysis.

Efficient crosswell EM tomography for monitoring geological sequestration of $CO_2$

  • [ $CO_2$ ] sequestration in oil reservoirs can be one of the most effective strategies for long-term removal of greenhouse gas from atmosphere. This paper presents an advantage of the localized nonlinear approximation of integral equation solutions for inverting crosswell electromagnetic data, which are observed as a part of pilot project of $CO_2$ flooding at the Lost Hills oil field in central California, U.S.A. To monitor the migration of $CO_2$, we have used 2-D cylindrically symmetric and 2.5-D tomographic inversion methods. These two schemes produce nearly the same images if the borehole separation is large compared with the skin depth. However, since the borehole separation is much less than five skin depths in this $CO_2$ injection experiment, the 2.5-D model seems to be more reliable than the 2-D model. In fact, the pre-injection 2.5-D image is more successfully compared with induction logs observed in the two wells than the 2-D model. From the time-lapse crosswell imaging, we can confirm the replacement of brine with $CO_2$ makes a decrease of conductivity.

  • A new approach, using MEMS, for improving the performance of high efficiency amplifiers is proposed in this paper. The MEMS tuning element is described as a variable-length shorted CPW stub. Class-E amplifiers can be optimally tuned by these MEMS tuning elements because their operation varies with the impedance of the output tuning circuit. A MEMS tuning element was simulated using full-wave EM simulators to obtain its S-parameters. A Class-E amplifier with the MEMS was designed at 8GHz. The non-linear operation of this amplifier was simulated to explore the effect of the MEMS tuning. Comparing the initially designed amplifier without MEMS, the Power Added Efficiency (PAE) of the amplifier with MEMS is improved from 46.3% to 66.9%. For the amplifier with MEMS, the nonlinear simulation results are PAE = 66.90%, $\eta$(drain efficiency) = 75.89%, and $P_{out}$ = 23.37 dBm at 8 GHz. In this paper, the concept of the MEMS tuning element is successfully applied to the Class E amplifier designed with transmission lines.

  • 전력계통 컨트롤센터에서 사용되는 SCADA/EMS 응용프로그램은, 전력계통의 해석을 위해 특정한 포맷의 입력데이터 파일을 사용하는 일반적인 오프라인 응용프로그램과는 달리, 물리적 특성이 통합된 전력계통 데이터베이스 기반위에서 수행된다. 응용프로그램들은 데이터베이스를 통해 필요한 데이터를 상호 교환하며, 개별 응용프로그램은 데이터베이스와 연동하는 사용자화면을 통해 컨트롤센터의 운전원과 상호작용을 하게 된다. 따라서 전력계통 데이터베이스 기반위에서 수행되는 EMS용 응용프로그램을 개발하기 위해서는 먼저 프로그램 고유의 기능적인 측면은 물론 운전원을 포함한 여러 사용자를 위한 프로그램 운용적인 측면의 요소까지 종합 분석하여 필요한 기능과 화면 그리고 그에 따른 데이터를 도출해야 한다. 도출된 기능 및 화면설계안에 따라 개발된 프로그램과 사용자화면은 모든 입출력 데이터들이 반영된 데이터베이스와의 인터페이스를 통해 통합 EMS용 응용프로그램으로서의 형태를 갖추게 된다. 최종적으로 응용프로그램은 사전에 준비된 시험절차에 따라 검증(프로그램의 정확성, 신속성 그리고 신뢰성을 평가)과정을 수행한다. 본 논문은 전력IT 국가전략과제로 개발 진행 중인 한국형 EMS(K-EMS) 응용프로그램의 개발 프로세스와 각 프로세스에서의 고려사항들을 소개함으로써, 한국형 EMS를 위한 응용프로그램의 추가 개발 혹은 전력계통 데이터베이스 구축과 이를 활용한 응용프로그램의 개발을 위한 방법론을 제안하고자 한다.
