Wireless power transfer (WPT) efficiencies for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are formulated with a goal of achieving their maximums using Z matrices. The maximum efficiencies for any arbitrarily given configurations are obtained using optimum loads, which can be determined numerically through adequate optimization procedures in general. For some simpler special cases (single-input single-output, single-input multiple-output, and multiple-input single-output) of the MIMO systems, the efficiencies and optimum loads to maximize them can be obtained using closed-form expressions. These closed-form solutions give us more physical insight into the given WPT problem. These efficiencies are evaluated theoretically based on the presented formulation and also verified with comparisons with circuit- and EM-simulation results. They are shown to lead to a good agreement. This work may be useful for construction of the wireless Internet of Things, especially employed with energy autonomy.

Typical negative group delay circuits (NGDC) are analyzed in terms of signal attenuation, group delay, and bandwidth using S-parameters. By inverting these formulations, we derive and present the design equations (for NGD circuit elements) for a desired specification of the two among the three parameters. The proposed design method is validated through simulation examples for narrow- and wide-band pulse inputs in the time and frequency domains. Moreover, an NGDC composed of lumped elements is fabricated at 1 GHz for measurement. As a function of frequency, the circuit-/EM-simulated and measured group delays are in good agreement. The provided simple NGDC design equations may be useful for many applications that require compensations of some signal delays.

This paper proposed a method of broadband method of dual polarized dipole antenna for 700 MHz band base station. The proposed antenna has a structure that PCB feeder is mounted on the metallic radiator. The design of radiator and feeder is optimized by using 3D EM simulation. The proposed antenna(bandwidth 31.6 %) is broadened over 12.2 % through the lower frequency band than reference antenna(bandwidth 19.4 %), however the size is not increased. Measured results of S-parameters, radiation patterns, and gain have a good agreement with simulation ones.

Recently, the demand on mm-wave (millimeter-wave) applications has increased dramatically. While circuits operating in the mm-wave frequency band have been traditionally implemented in III-V or SiGe technologies, recent advances in Si MOSFET operation speed enabled mm-wave circuits realized in a Si CMOS technology. In this work, a 58 GHz CMOS LC cross-coupled VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) was fabricated in a $0.13-{\mu}m$ Si RF CMOS technology. In the course of the circuit design, active device models were modified for improved accuracy in the mm-wave range and EM (electromagnetic) simulation was heavily employed for passive device performance predicttion and interconnection parasitic extraction. The measured operating frequency ranged from 56.5 to 58.5 GHz with a tuning voltage swept from 0 to 2.3 V. The minimum phase noise of -96 dBc/Hz at 5 MHz offset was achieved. The output power varied around -20 dBm over the measured tuning range. The circuit drew current (including buffer current) of 10 mA from 1.5 V supply voltage. The FOM (Figure-Of-Merit) was estimated to be -165.5 dBc/Hz.

A planar slotted waveguide array antenna has been designed at 9.37 GHz for X-band radar applications. The antenna consists of multiple branchline waveguides with broadwall radiating shunt slots and a main waveguide to feed the branch waveguides through a series of inclined coupling slots. The antenna feed point is located at the center of the main waveguide. Element weights in the array have been calculated bysampling a continuous circular Taylor aperture distribution at the 25 dB sidelobe level in both the E and Hplanes. A commercially available electromagnetic (EM) simulation tool has been used to characterize the individual isolated slot and that data hassubsequently been used to design the planar array. The array is finally analyzed in a CST Microwave studio and the measured and simulated results have been found to be in good agreement.

In this paper, the optimum placement and shape of UHF antenna on the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) are analyzed by using the electromagnetic (EM) simulation on the various locations. The FEKO was used for the EM-simulation. In order to reduce the complexity of simulation and minimize the runtime and memory usage, the composite aircraft structure is simplified as the PEC model excluding the radome structure. The simulation was performed on the wing and ventral fin of UAV, and the antenna shape used the monopole, dipole, and bent monopole antennas. When the monopole antenna is mounted under the wing, two antennas need to be mounted under the right and left wings, and those antennas have to be switched as the direction of UAV wing to the line of sight (LOS) data-link (DL) ground antenna. In the case of mounting under the ventral fin, one antenna can be used regardless of the direction of UAV wing to the LOS DL ground antenna. Also, the antenna gain is improved by the blockage reduction. The antenna gain is further improved by using the bent monopole antenna. The optimum solution of UHF antenna placement and shape on UAV is to mount the bent monopole antenna under the ventral fin.

In this paper, the numerical wave propagation properties of the finite difference-time domain(FD-TD) method is investigated as a discrete model describing electromagnetic(EM) wave propagation phenomena. The leap-frog approximation of Maxwell's curl equations in time-space simulates EM wave propagation in terms of the numerical characteristic and the domain of dependence. A geometrical interpretation of the FD-TD numerical procedure is presented. The numerical dispersion error due to the leap-frog approximation and its dependence on the stability factor are illustrated. The FD-TD method using the leap-frog approximation is inherently a descriptive model. Thus, not only any physical picture about EM wave propagation phenomena can be drawn through this model, but also physical or engineering parameters in the frequency domain can be extracted from descriptive results. E-plane filter characteristics in the WR-28 rectangular waveguide and reflection property of an inductive iris in the WR-90 rectangluar waveguide extracted from simulation of the FD-TD model is included.
This paper describes the design and the analysis of electromagnetic system of Magnetic Switch using 2D parametric finite element method(EM-Pulse). Magnetic Switch is electrical equipment, which is widely used for switching on/off motors in industrial field. The transient state is simulated in order to calculate the response time of Magnetic Switch. The simulation is based upon a step-by-step integration of the electric circuit equations and the core movement. The contactor uses a permanent magnet for maintaining the closed state. The presented solution takes account of non-linear magnetic material property and spring force controlled by core position. The dynamic response of Magnetic Switch predicted by the simulation agrees closely with the required condition.

In this paper, a fast numerical electromagnetic (EM) method based on the transverse wave formulation called-up Advanced Transverse Wave Approach (A-TWA) is presented. An appropriate 5G antenna is designed, simulated and investigated in the context of Millimeter-Wave Wireless Communication Systems. The obtained simulation results are found in good agreement with literature. Such a method can provide for the simulators a great library integrating the most complexly and sensitively geometry elements that can have a huge impact on the applications supported by new wireless technologies.
Integrated passive device (IPD) technology has emerged with the need for 5G. In order to integrate and miniaturize capacitors inside IPD, various studies are actively performed using high-k materials and trench structures. In this paper, an EM(Electromagnetic) simulation study was performed by applying an oxide dielectric to the capacitors having a various trench type structures. Commercially available materials HfO2, Al2O3, and Ta2O5 are applied to non, circle, trefoil, and quatrefoil type trench structures to confirm changes in each material or structure. As a result, the bigger the capacitor area and the higher dielectric constant of the oxide dielectric, the insertion loss tended to decrease.
