  • The study tested a hybrid model with constructs drawn from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory in order to examine the moderating effect of productivity and relative advantage (RA) on perceived usefulness (PU) vis-à-vis electronic information resources (EIR) adoption in private university libraries in Ogun and Osun States of Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted in the study. The population consisted of 61 (55.0%) librarians and 50 (45.0%) library officers (totaling 116—100%) in Babcock University, Bells University, Covenant University, Bowen University, Oduduwa University, and Redeemer's University. Purposive sampling procedure was adopted after which total enumeration was used since the total population is small. The questionnaire was used for data collection. Of the 116 copies of the questionnaire administered, 111 (95.7%) were found usable. The instrument was structured based on a 4-point Likert agreement scale of Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, and Strongly Disagree. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics like tables of frequency counts and percentage. The findings revealed that productivity and relative advantage are significant moderators of perceived usefulness of EIR adoption in private university libraries in Ogun and Osun States, Nigeria.

  • This research is centered on the adoption and evolution of Building Information Modeling Execution Plans (BEPs) and Employer's Information Requirements (EIRs) within the Japanese construction sector. Presently, these pivotal documents have not been comprehensively integrated into the Japanese industry, lacking a uniform standard. Addressing this gap, our study investigates the development of an automated system designed to generate optimal BEPs and EIRs, informed by project summaries and survey data. The system's development leverages insights from successful international BEP and EIR models, adapting these to align with the specific requirements of Japanese construction projects. It is tailored to facilitate key processes, including the assessment of BIM-capable personnel and the elucidation of BIM objectives within these projects. The objective of this research is to formulate actionable guidelines and tools that advance the implementation and effectiveness of BIM in Japan. By streamlining the generation of BEPs and EIRs, the system is expected to enrich BIM comprehension and application in the national construction landscape. This initiative not only serves the immediate needs of the local industry but also harmonizes global BIM methodologies with Japanese practices. In sum, this study contributes significantly to the refinement of BIM practices in Japan, promoting a more knowledgeable and efficient approach to construction project management.

  • The amplification method using evanescent wave coupling has a long history and has been widely used as a new lasing method, especially, in the waveguide optics$^{(1)}$ . In particular, it has been observed experimentally that when the light wave propagating in a dielectric medium is totally reflected at the planar interface between the dielectric and a pumped active medium, the reflectance may be greater than unity, i.e., amplification is possible$^{(2)}$ . There were several attempts by other authors to explain this enhanced internal reflection (EIR) classically$^{(3)}$ . They commonly introduced a complex refractive index for the active medium with its imaginary part being negative, and this scheme was also used to describe an amplification process in a waveguide having active-cladding region$^{(4)}$ . However these theories are phenomenological, using macroscopic constants, and therefore a microscopic theory is needed to understand EIR in a fundamental level. (omitted)

  • Purpose: Spinning-induced rhabdomyolysis (SIR) has been increasing in recent years and accounts for a large proportion of exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis (EIR). The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical features between SIR and non-spinning exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis (NSIR), and to analyze each of these clinical features. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on patients treated due to EIR from January 2006 to March 2018. Patients were divided into the SIR and NSIR groups, and their clinical factors, outcome, and blood chemistries were compared and analyzed. Results: Sixty-two patients were enrolled in this study, with 23 (37.1%) and 39 (62.9%) patients categorized in the SIR and NSIR groups, respectively. The SIR group were mostly women (78.3% vs. 38.5%, p=0.002), more frequent EIR occurrence in the first exercise class (60.9% vs. 15.4%, p=0.001), and had most complaints of thigh pain (91.3% vs. 43.6%, p=0.001). The SIR group had a higher incidence rate despite its shorter exercise duration (90.5% vs. 62.9%, p=0.024), longer hospital stay (6.0 [4.5-7.0] vs. 5.0 [3.5-6.0] days, p=0.080), and higher rate of peak CPK (15,000 U/L or higher) (91.3% vs. 74.4%, p=0.182) compared to the NSIR group. Conclusions: SIR occurs at a higher rate during the first exercise class in women compared to NSIR, and the incidence rate is higher in SIR than in NSIR despite its shorter exercise duration (less than 60 minutes). It is necessary to recognize these risks during spinning exercises and to perform these exercises sequentially and systematically.

  • This study analyzed whether the ontology-based information-searching model affected the ability of students to effectively search for meaningful information to carry out their projects. The experiment results illustrated that the amount of relevant information sought by the ontology-based information retrieval (OIR) method was significantly greater than that of the existing information retrieval (EIR) method. In addition, the relevance rate of the bookmarked documents sought by the OIR method was significantly greater than that of the EIR method. Interviews showed that the OIR model was helpful for students to effectively find information and thus, it helped them to complete the project more easily. Furthermore, the OIR model was beneficial for them to understand the subordinate concepts and their relationships for an important learning concept. The results of this study indicate that the OIR model could be used as a supplementary learning tool for project-based learning.

  • We propose a current-mode analog programmable finite-impulse-response (FIR) filter with variable tap circuits. From the circuit simulation, the operation of the 7- tap FIR filter is confirmed. We design and fabricate the 0.0625-step tap circuit using 0.8$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. The proposed FIR filter has a variable length of taps and variable coefficients, so it has a potential for being used to software defined radio (SDR) terminals.
