They were interviewed by questionnaire to collect information on social-demographic characteristics, health behaviors, health-related characteristics and QOL. We used statistical analysis methods such as T-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis to find which factors affected QOL. Results: The characteristics relating to physical functions were as follows: presence of spouse, education, alcohol drinking, teeth condition, arthritis, frequency of visiting the hall for the aged, and depression. Age, arthritis and depression were significantly related to role limitation due to physical problems. General health was related to gender, age, and depression, and vitality was related to education, frequency of visiting the hall, and depression. Role limitation due to emotional problems was related to age and depression, and mental health was related to age, hypertension, arthritis and depression. Conclusions: This study showed QOL of the elderly was significantly influenced by socio-demographic factors, and physical or emotional conditions. To improve QOL of the elderly, we need to develop programs to promote health and to manage chronic diseases of the elderly.

Objectives: The community network is a foundation laid by the local community which has been formed historically and geographically to develop itself. This paper as a Korean way of healthy network survey for the community capacity building is an exploratory research to grasp the character of Korean society and then to organize an resident-governing partnership for that. Methods: Research objectives are CBOs(Community-Based Organizations) in S-district of Seoul. This region is a new town, however the solidarity and volunteerism of this resident is lively. The survey tool is Cho's CBOs Evaluation Questionnaire which was originated to measure the community capacity. The period of survey is from the January 2009 to the March 2009 and the study organizations which were collected by snowball sampling were 80. Results: The result shows two main networks: one is the civil society and craft union cluster, the other is welfare organization cluster. Groups of high centrality were organizations whose members are mainly women and craft organizations which were organized before 1990's. The group of high betweenness was the Association of Women's Organizations(0.188). Bi-components were six and they could be divided by organization's aim. In terms of the determinants of the participation to the health center enterprise, only the number of link(B=-0.60, p<0.04) was statistically significant. It means that when organization variables are controlled a tendency appears: the more the voluntary associations network, the less participation in the health enterprise. Conclusion: CBHOs(Community-Based Health Organizations) enhances residents' spontaneity and cohesion to increase the capability of the local community. If the surveyed healthy network, together the community health project, are used for various community development projects, the existing CBOs including CBHOs will be reorganized and furthered newly. For this it will be needed to construct an effective partnership of healthy network by restructuring the existing networks of voluntary associations.
The aim of this study was to provide descriptive information on meal and snack patterns and to investigate snacks in relation to energy intake and food choice according to the meal patterns of employed people in Korea. 683 employed people (292 males, 391 females) were interviewed to collect one day dietary data by using 24-h dietary recall. A recorded day was divided into 3 meal and 3 snack periods by the respondent's criteria and the time of consumption. To analyze the eating pattern participants were divided as the more frequent snack eaters (MFSE) and the less frequent snack eaters (LFSE). They were also categorized into 6 groups according to the frequency of all eating occasions. The common meal pattern in nearly half of the subjects (47.6%) was composed of three meals plus one or two snacks per day. A trend of an increasing the number of snacks in between main meals emerges, although the conventional meal pattern is still retained in most employed Korean adults. Women, aged 30-39, and urban residents, had a higher number of being MFSE than LFSE. Increasing eating occasions was associated with higher energy, protein, and carbohydrate intakes, with the exception of fat intakes. 16.8% of the total daily energy intake came from snack consumption, while the 3 main meals contributed 83.2%. Energy and macronutrient intakes from snacks in the MFSE were significantly higher than the LFSE. Instant coffee was the most popular snack in the morning and afternoon, whereas heavy snacks and alcohol were more frequently consumed by both of the meal skipper groups ($\leq$2M+2,3S and $\leq$2M+0,1S) in the evening. In conclusion, meal pattern is changing to reflect an increase of more snacks between the three main meals. Meal and snack patterns may be markers for the energy and macronutrient intakes of employed people in Korea.

Among socioeconomic characteristics, community with lower rate of households headed with college or more, lower number of inhabitants per on-premise license, higher rate of population in poverty, and rural region showed higher mortality rate. Among health care resources, community with higher number of inhabitants per doctor and lower number of inhabitants per hospital bed showed higher mortality rate. Among health lifestyle practice, community with higher current smoking rate and lower moderate physical activity practice rate showed higher mortality rate. Conclusions: The results suggest that policy makers should take into account socioeconomic environmental characteristics of community in developing community-based health promotion rather than focusing on lifestyle changes of residents.
