Response of base-isolated liquid storage tanks to near-fault motions

  • Seismic response of the liquid storage tanks isolated by the elastomeric bearings and sliding systems is investigated under near-fault earthquake motions. The fault normal and parallel components of near-fault motion are applied in two horizontal directions of the tank. The continuous liquid mass of the tank is modeled as lumped masses known as sloshing mass, impulsive mass and rigid mass. The corresponding stiffness associated with these lumped masses has been worked out depending upon the properties of the tank wall and liquid mass. It is observed that the resultant response of the isolated tank is mainly governed by fault normal component with minor contribution from the fault parallel component. Further, a parametric study is also carried out to study the effects of important system parameters on the effectiveness of seismic isolation for liquid storage tanks. The various important parameters considered are: aspect ratio of tank, the period of isolation and the damping of isolation bearings. There exists an optimum value of isolation damping for which the base shear in the tank attains the minimum value under near-fault motion. The increase of damping beyond the optimum value will reduce the bearing and sloshing displacements but increases the base shear. A comparative performance of five isolation systems for liquid storage tanks is also studied under normal component of near-fault motion and found that the EDF type isolation system may be a better choice for design of isolated tank in near-fault locations. Finally, it is also observed that the satisfactory response can be obtained by analysing the base-isolated tanks under simple cycloidal pulse instead of complete acceleration history.

  • 부정확한 실시간 시스템은 시간적으로 긴급한 태스크들을 융통성있게 스케쥴링해 줄 수 있다. 총 오류를 최소화시키면서 0/1 제약조건과 시간적 제약조건들을 모두 만족시키는 대부분의 스케쥴링문제들은 선택적태스크들이 임의의 수행시간을 갖고 있을 때 NP-complete이다. Liu는 단일처리기상에서 0/1제약조건을 갖는 태스크들을 총 오류가 최소화되도록 스케쥴링시킬 수 있는 합리적인 전략을 제시하였다 또한, 송 등은 다중처리기상에서 0/1제약조건을 갖는 태스크들을 총 오류가 최소화되도록 스케줄링 시킬 수 있는 합리적인 전략을 제시하였다. 그러나, 이러한 알고리즘들은 모두 오프라인 알고리즘들이다. <중략> 두 알고리즘들 사이의 성능비교의 결과로서, 선택적 태스크들이 그들의 실행요구시간의 임의의 순서대로 스케쥴될 때는 제안된 알고리즘이 NORA 알고리즘과 비슷한 총오류를 산출하지만 특별히 선택적 태스크들이 그들의 실행요구시간의 오름차순으로 스케쥴될 때는 제안된 알고리즘이 NORA 알고리즘보다 더 적은 총오류를 산출할 수 있음이 밝혀졌다. 본 논문에서 제시된 알고리즘은 레이다의 추적, 이미지 처리, 미사일 제어 등의 응용에서 효과적으로 적용될 수 있다.

Methodology for real-time adaptation of tunnels support using the observational method

  • The observational method in tunnel engineering allows the evaluation in real time of the actual conditions of the ground and to take measures if its behavior deviates considerably from predictions. However, it lacks a consistent and structured methodology to use the monitoring data to adapt the support system in real time. The definition of limit criteria above which adaptation is required are not defined and complex inverse analysis procedures (Rechea et al. 2008, Levasseur et al. 2010, Zentar et al. 2001, Lecampion et al. 2002, Finno and Calvello 2005, Goh 1999, Cui and Pan 2012, Deng et al. 2010, Mathew and Lehane 2013, Sharifzadeh et al. 2012, 2013) may be needed to consistently analyze the problem. In this paper a methodology for the real time adaptation of the support systems during tunneling is presented. In a first step limit criteria for displacements and stresses are proposed. The methodology uses graphics that are constructed during the project stage based on parametric calculations to assist in the process and when these graphics are not available, since it is not possible to predict every possible scenario, inverse analysis calculations are carried out. The methodology is applied to the "Bois de Peu" tunnel which is composed by two tubes with over 500 m long. High uncertainty levels existed concerning the heterogeneity of the soil and consequently in the geomechanical design parameters. The methodology was applied in four sections and the results focus on two of them. It is shown that the methodology has potential to be applied in real cases contributing for a consistent approach of a real time adaptation of the support system and highlight the importance of the existence of good quality and specific monitoring data to improve the inverse analysis procedure.

분산 실시간 멀티미디어 데이터베이스 시스템을 위한 신축성있는 스케줄링 기법 (Scalable scheduling techniques for distributed real-time multimedia database systems)

  • 본 논문에서는 분산 실시간 멀티미디어 데이터베이스 시스템에서 경성 실시간 태스크들과 멀티미디어 태스크들을 효율적으로 통합할 수 있는 신축적인 스케쥴링 기법이 제시된다. 경성 실시간 태스크가 최악의 경우에 대한 실행 시간을 기반으로 하는 반면 멀티미디어 태스크는 평균 실행 시간을 기반으로 한다. 동일한 시스템에 존재하는 두 가지 태스크들에 대하여 CPU 대역폭을 분할 조정하는 서버 기법이 기술된다. 제시된 기법에서는 한부류의 태스크들의 수와 도착 비율이 변동되는 과부하 문제를 해결하기 위하여 부류별로 CPU 대역폭의 비율이 조정될 수 있다. 경성 실시간 태스크가 서버의 주기내에서 실행될 수 있는 시간이 제한되는 반면 멀티미디어 태스크에 설정된 대역폭은 동적으로 변할 수 있다. 제시된 기법은 경성 실시간 태스크들의 실시간성을 모두 보장하는 한편 멀티미디어 태스크들의 평균 지연시간을 최소화할 수 있다. 스케쥴링 기법의 성능은 시뮬레이션을 통하여 다른 스케쥴링 기법과 비교 분석한다.

  • The TANDEM project is a European initiative funded under the EURATOM program. The project started on September 2022 and has a duration of 36 months. TANDEM stands for Small Modular ReacTor for a European sAfe aNd Decarbonized Energy Mix. Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) can be hybridized with other energy sources, storage systems and energy conversion applications to provide electricity, heat and hydrogen. Hybrid energy systems have the potential to strongly contribute to the energy decarbonization targeting carbon-neutrality in Europe by 2050. However, the integration of nuclear reactors, particularly SMRs, in hybrid energy systems, is a new R&D topic to be investigated. In this context, the TANDEM project aims to develop assessments and tools to facilitate the safe and efficient integration of SMRs into low-carbon hybrid energy systems. An open-source "TANDEM" model library of hybrid system components will be developed in Modelica language which, by coupling, will extend the capabilities of existing tools implemented in the project. The project proposes to specifically address the safety issues of SMRs related to their integration into hybrid energy systems, involving specific interactions between SMRs and the rest of the hybrid systems; new initiating events may have to be considered in the safety approach. TANDEM will study two hybrid systems covering the main trends of the European energy policy and market evolution at 2035's horizon: a district heating network and power supply in a large urban area, and an energy hub serving energy conversion systems, including hydrogen production; the energy hub is inspired from a harbor-like infrastructure. TANDEM will provide assessments on SMR safety, hybrid system operationality and techno-economics. Societal considerations will also be encased by analyzing European citizen engagement in SMR technology safety.

차선관련 파라미터의 대칭성과 선형회귀에 기반한 차선이탈 인식 (A Lane-Departure Identification Based on Linear Regression and Symmetry of Lane-Related Parameters)

  • This paper presents a lane-departure identification (LDI) algorithm for a traveling vehicle on a structured road. The algorithm makes up for the weak points of the former method based on EDF[1] by introducing a Lane Boundary Pixel Extractor (LBPE), the well known Hough transform, and liner regression. As a filter to extract pixels expected to be on lane boundaries, the LBPE plays an important role in enhancing the robustness of LDI. Utilizing the pixels from the LBPE the Hough transform provides the lane-related parameters composed of orientation and distance, which are used in the LDI. The proposed LDI is based on the fact the lane-related parameters of left and right lane boundaries are symmetrical as for as the optical axis of a camera mounted on a vehicle is coincident with the center of lane; as the axis deviates from the center of lane, the symmetrical property is correspondingly lessened. In addition, the LDI exploits a linear regression of the lane-related parameters of a series of successive images. It plays the key role of determining the trend of a vehicle's traveling direction and minimizing the noise effect. Except for the two lane-related parameters, the proposed algorithm does not use other information such as lane width, a curvature, time to lane crossing, and of feet between the center of a lane and the optical axis of a camera. The system performed successfully under various degrees of illumination and on various road types.

GaN HEMT를 적용한 3kW급 계통연계 태양광 인버터의 방열 설계 및 개발 (Development of a 3 kW Grid-tied PV Inverter With GaN HEMT Considering Thermal Considerations)

  • A 3 kW grid-tied PV inverter with Gallium nitride high-electron mobility transistor (GaN HEMT) for domestic commercialization was developed using boost converter and full-bridge inverter with LCL filter topology. Recently, many GaN HEMTs are manufactured as surface mount packages because of their lower parasitic inductance characteristic than standard TO (transistor outline) packages. A surface mount packaged GaN HEMT releases heat through either top or bottom cooling method. IGOT60R070D1 is selected as a key power semiconductor because it has a top cooling method and fairly low thermal resistances from junction to ambient. Its characteristics allow the design of a 3 kW inverter without forced convection, thereby providing great advantages in terms of easy maintenance and high reliability. 1EDF5673K is selected as a gate driver because its driving current and negative voltage output characteristics are highly optimized for IGOT60R070D1. An LCL filter with passive damping resistor is applied to attenuate the switching frequency harmonics to the grid-tied operation. The designed LCL filter parameters are validated with PSIM simulation. A prototype of 3 kW PV inverter with GaN HEMT is constructed to verify the performance of the power conversion system. It achieved high power density of 614 W/L and peak power efficiency of 99% for the boost converter and inverter.

분산 실시간 서비스를 위한 TMO 객체그룹 모델의 구축 (A Construction of TMO Object Group Model for Distributed Real-Time Services)

  • 본 논문에서는 분산 객체 컴퓨팅 환경에서 보장된 실시간 서비스를 지원하는 TMO 객체그룹(TMO Object Group) 모델을 설계ㆍ구축하고, 우리 모델의 정확한 분산 실시간 서비스 수행능력을 검증 한다. 우리가 제안한 TMO 객체그룹은 TINA(Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture) 의 객체그룹 개념을 기반으로, 실시간 특성을 가지는 TMO(Time-triggered Message-triggered Object) 객체들과 객체그룹 내의 객체 관리 서비스(Object Management Service), 실시간 스케줄링 서비스(Real-Time Scheduling Service)를 지원하는 컴포넌트들로 구성된다. 또한, TMO 객체는 분산 시스템에 비중복 또는 중복으로 존재할 수 있다. 본 모델은 특정 ORB나 운영체제들의 제약 없이 COTS(Commercial Off-The-Shelf) 미들웨어 상에서 보장된 분산 실시간 서비스를 수행한다. TMO 객체그룹을 구축하기 위해 TMO 객체의 개념과 TMO 객체그룹의 구조를 정의하였고, 객체그룹 내의 컴포넌트들의 기능과 그들간의 상호작용을 설계 구현하였다. TMO 객체그룹은 객체 관리 서비스와 실시간 스케줄링 서비스 지원을 위해 동적바인더객체(Dynamic Binder Object)와 스케줄러객체(Scheduler Object)를 각각 가진다. 동적바인더객체는 클라이언트들의 요청에 대해 중복 TMO 객체 중 적정 객체를 선정하는 동적 바인딩 서비스를 지원하고, 스케쥴러객체는 클라이언트들의 서비스 요청에 대해 TMO 객체가 수행해야 할 작업들의 우선순위를 정하는 실시간 스케줄링 서비스를 지원한다. TMO 객체그룹의 수행 검증을 위해 이미 연구된 알고리즘을 확장한 동적 바인딩 서비스를 위한 바인딩 우선순위(Binding Priority) 알고리즘과 실시간 스케줄링 서비스를 위한 EDF(Earliest Deadline First) 알고리즘을 적용하여 동적바인더객체와 스케쥴러객체를 구현했다. 마지막으로 수치 분석을 통해 TMO 객체그룹이 비중복/중복 TMO 객체의 동적 바인딩 서비스와 클라이언트들의 요청을 받는 임의의 TMO 객체에서 실시간 스케줄링 서비스를 지원하는지 검증했다.
