  • Blind adaptive systems based on the Euclidean distance (ED) between the distribution function of the output samples and that of a set of random symbols generated at the receiver matching with the distribution function of the transmitted symbol points estimate the ED at each iteration time to examine its convergence state or its minimum ED value. The problem is that this ED estimation obtained by block?data processing requires a heavy calculation burden. In this paper, a recursive ED estimation method is proposed that reduces the computational complexity by way of utilizing the relationship between the current and previous states of the datablock. The relationship provides a ground that the currently estimated ED value can be used for the estimation of the next ED without the need for processing the whole new data block. From the simulation results the proposed recursive ED estimation shows the same estimation values as that of the conventional method, and in the aspect of computational burden, the proposed method requires only O(N) at each iteration time while the conventional block?processing method does $O(N^2)$.

  • To investigate the changes during the differentiation of the cerebral neurons of chick embryo of tne embryogenic day (ED) 7 and 8, the ultrastructural changes in the cerebral neurons, the activity of dehydronases (LDH, MDH and SDH), protein expression profile and adenosine triphosphate concentration were analyzed. In ED 7 chick embryos, relatively large nucleus, centrally located nucleolus, evenly spread chromatin over nucleoplasm, and prominent nuclear envelope were observed. Oval-shaped mitochondria with well-developed cristae were present over entire cytoplasm. In ED 8 chick embryos, evenly spread chromatin over nucleoplasm, and prominent nuclear envelope were observed. In the cytoplasm, well-developed rough endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi complex were observed. In ED 7 chick embryos and ED 8 chick embryos, 31 polypeptide bands and 34 polypeptide bands were observed, respectively. The activities of dehydrogenases were lower in ED 7 chick embryos than in ED 8 chick embryos. LDH activity was 8.16 (ED 7) and 9.28 (ED 8), MDH activity was 7.98 (ED 7) and 10.10 (ED 8), and SDH activity was 5.49 (ED 7) and 7.14 (ED 8) respectively. The ATP concentration remained unchanged over ED 7 and 8.

  • For real-time systems, multiprocessor support is indispensable to handle the large number of requests. Existing real-time on-line scheduling algorithms such as Earliest Deadline First Algorithm (EDF) and Least Laxity Algorithm (LLA) may not be suitable for scheduling real-time tasks in multiprocessor systems. Although EDF has low context switching overhead, it suffers from "multiple processor anomalies." LLA has been shown as suboptimal, but has the potential for higher context switching overhead. Earliest Deadline Zero Laxity (EDZL) solved somewhat the problems of those algorithms, however is suboptimal for only two processors. Another algorithm EDA2 shows very good performance in overload phase, however, is not suboptimal for muitiprocessors. We propose two on-line scheduling algorithms, Earliest Deadline/Least Laxity (ED/LL) and ED2/LL. ED/LL is suboptimal for multiprocessors, and has low context switching overhead and low deadline miss rate in normal load phase. However, ED/LL is ineffective when the system is overloaded. To solve this problem, ED2/LL uses ED/LL or EDZL in normal load phase and uses EDA2 in overload phase. Experimental results show that ED2/LL achieves good performance in overload phase as wet] as in normal load phase.oad phase.

  • For the design of the shortened ED(Expansion Deflection) nozzle, a numerical study of ED nozzle was performed according to the length reduction methods. The first method is to reduce the extension length of the ED nozzle with 80% bell nozzle length by 10%, 20% and 30%. The second method is to shorten the extension length by increasing the nozzle throat angle. Due to the increase in the curvature of the contour as the length shortened, the decrease in the nozzle exit velocity between the ED nozzle with 80% bell nozzle length and the ED nozzle in the first method was reduced, and the thrust become similar. The ED nozzle of the second method increased the thrust by increasing the nozzle exit velocity compared to the ED nozzle with 80% bell nozzle length.

  • In the subventricular zone (SVZ) and the subgranular zone of the brain, neurogenesis occurs throughout one's lifespan. Neural stem cells (NSCs) in these regions divide to maintain their stem cell pools as well as differentiate into neurons and glial cells. To monitor cell division, a thymidine analogue such as 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) has been used. In some cases, EdU was applied to label newly born neurons. Here, we report about the effects of EdU on the proliferation and differentiation of NSCs cultured from mouse SVZ. First, when NSCs were cultured in a proliferation medium containing EdU for 24 hr, they did not generate any neurons under the following differentiation conditions. When EdU was applied to the proliferating NSCs for 1 hr prior to differentiation, neurogenesis was still substantially reduced. Second, EdU decreased cell proliferation of NSCs in dose- and time-dependent manners. Finally, EdU inhibited differentiation into oligodendrocyte lineage, while the number of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-positive astrocytes increased. To our knowledge, these findings are the first to show the effects of EdU on the differentiation of SVZ NSCs and suggest that cell division is necessary for differentiation into neurons and oligodendrocytes.

  • Ultra-pure water (UPW), a highly treated water free of colloidal material and of a conductivity less than 0.06 ${\mu}S$, is an essential component required by modern industry. One of the methods for UPW production is the electrodialysis-ion exchange (ED/IE) system, in which the electrodialysis (ED) process is used as a preliminary demineralization step. The IE step can be replaced with electrodeionization (EDI) to decrease the volume of post-regeneration lyes. In this paper, the electrodialysis process carried out to relatively low diluate conductivity was investigated and the costs of UPW production were calculated. The optimal value of desalination degree by ED in the ED/IE and ED/EDI systems was estimated. UPW unit costs for integrated ED/IE and ED/EDI systems were compared to simple ion exchange and other methods for UPW production (RO-IE, RO-EDI). The minimal UPW unit costs in ED/EDI integrated system were estimated as $0.37/$m^3$ for feed TDS 600 mg/L and $0.36/$m^3$ for feed TDS 400 mg/L at 64 $m^3/h$ capacity, which was lower than in the comparable ED/IE integrated system ($0.42-0.44/$m^3$). The presented results suggest that an ED/EDI integrated system may be economically viable.

  • Six experimental diets for juvenile sea cucumbers Apostichopus japonicus were evaluated and compared with current commercial diets. Sea cucumbers (50 per tank; initial mean weight $2.3{\pm}0.1g$) in three replicates of seven groups were fed one of six experimental diets (ED1, 20% wild-harvested Sargassum thunbergii powder; ED2, 20% commercial S. thunbergii powder; ED3, 20% Undaria pinnatifida and Ascophyllum nodosum powders; ED4, 40% U. pinnatifida and A. nodosum powders; ED5, 10% brewer's yeast; and ED6, 10% sea shell powder) or a commercial diet (CD) for 28 weeks. The survival rate in all groups was 85-94%, with no significant difference among the experimental groups. The mean body weight of the sea cucumbers was significantly different among the experimental groups 6 weeks after the feeding trial. The final mean weight of the sea cucumbers was highest in ED1, ED3, and ED4, followed by ED6, ED5, ED2, and CD, in decreasing order. The results of this study suggest that U. pinnatifida and A. nodosum powders could provide a substitute for the S. thunbergii powder commonly used in commercial sea cucumber diets. Thus, the EP4 diet formulation, which contains no S. thunbergii, could be used as a practical feed for juvenile sea cucumbers.

  • This Study is to find out how RC beam mixed with sawdust acts comparing with normal beam without sawdust mixture, and how they can be applied to the actual structural frame, despite a Int that they are mixed with waste material : saying sawdust. ED3H1, ED3H2, ED5H1, ED5H2, ED3H1UB, ED5H1UB, ED3H2L, ED5H2L and Normal without sawdust mixture are main factor to be tested here in order to apply them to the actual case. D and H means diameter 3cm or 5cm, and holes one and two respectively. And all variables are tested with each two for one variables. Test results are compared using crack diagrams and strain & loads. There are eleven(11)% capacity decrease between ED 3H1 and ED5H1 in rebar, strain. Left and right side crack shapes are much similar in variable ED3H2L having maximum capacity 14.5 tone. ED5H2L having maximum capacity thirteen(13)tone, in case of normal 19.6 tone. Two holes in beam rather on the longitudinal direction than on the forcing direction can be more effective to keep the original capacity of the beam because this case can distribute load more uniformly. There is 33% capacity decreased in case of diameter five(5)cm, compared to diameter three(3)cm. Two holes give thirty nine(39) percent capacity decrease than one of diameter three(3)cm.

  • Rapid developments in technology as part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution have created a demand for educational technology (EdTech) and a gradual transition from traditional teaching and learning to EdTech-assisted learning in medical education. EdTech is a portmanteau (blended word) combining the concepts of education and technology, and it refers to various attempts to solve education-related problems through information and communication technology. The aim of this study was to explore the use of key EdTech applications in medical education programs. A scoping review was conducted by searching three databases (PubMed, CINAHL, and Educational Sources) for articles published from 2000 to June 2021. Twenty-one studies were found that presented relevant descriptions of the effectiveness of EdTech in medical education programs. Studies on the application and effectiveness of EdTech were categorized as follows: (1) artificial intelligence with learner-adaptive evaluation and feedback, (2) augmented/virtual reality for improving learning participation and academic achievement through immersive learning, and (3) social media/social networking services with learner-directed knowledge generation, sharing, and dissemination in medical communities. Although this review reports the effectiveness of EdTech in various medical education programs, the number of studies and the validity of the identified research designs are insufficient to confirm the educational effects of EdTech. Future studies should utilize suitable research designs and examine the instructional objectives achievable by EdTech-based applications to strengthen the evidence base supporting the application of EdTech by medical educators and institutions.

  • Objectives: To observe the in vitro anti-inflammatory effects of Hyunbulikyung-tang aqueous extracts (HBLKT) and the possible synergic combination effects with a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, piroxicam. Methods: Anti-inflammatory effects of HBLKT (yield=16.17%) were observed on LPS activated raw 264.7 cells based on $ED_{50}$ to cell viability, NO, $PGE_2$, $TNF-{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 productions as compared with piroxicam, in the present study. In addition, the combination effects of HBLKT with piroxicam were observed after treatment of HBLKT 1/4 $ED_{50}$ + piroxicam 1/4 $ED_{50}$, 1/8 $ED_{50}$, 1/16 $ED_{50}$, 1/32 $ED_{50}$ and 1/64 $ED_{50}$ concentrations, respectively. Results: Significant (p<0.01 or p<0.05) increases of cell viabilities and decreases of NO, $PGE_2$, $TNF-{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 cytokine releases were detected in HBLKT 1/4 $ED_{50}$ + piroxicam 1/4 $ED_{50}$, 1/8 $ED_{50}$, 1/16 $ED_{50}$ and 1/32 $ED_{50}$ concentration co-treatment as compared with each of single 1/4 $ED_{50}$ concentration of piroxicam and HBLKT treatments, respectively. Although significant (p<0.01 or p<0.05) increases of cell viabilities and decreases of NO, $PGE_2$, $TNF-{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 cytokine releases were also demonstrated in piroxicam 1/64 $ED_{50}$ + HBLKT 1/4 $ED_{50}$ co-treatment as compared with LPS control, no significant changes were detected as compared with each of single 1/4 $ED_{50}$ concentration of piroxicam and HBLKT treatments, in this experiment. Conclusions: Hyunbulikyung-tang showed cell protective and anti-inflammatory effects against LPS activated raw 264.7 cells. It, therefore, expected that HBLKT will be showed favorable effects to relieve dysmenorrhea related to over expressed inflammatory cytokines, and it also expected that the clinical dosages of piroxicam can be reduced as 1/8 levels as combination with HBLKT.
