  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals cannot be counterfeited and can easily acquire signals from both wrists. In this paper, we propose a method of generating a coupling image using direction information of ECG signals as well as its usage in a personal recognition method. The proposed coupling image is generated by using forward ECG signal and rotated inverse ECG signal based on R-peak, and the generated coupling image shows a unique pattern and brightness. In addition, R-peak data is increased through the ECG signal calculation of the same beat, and it is thus possible to improve the recognition performance of the individual. The generated coupling image extracts characteristics of pattern and brightness by using the proposed convolutional neural network and reduces data size by using multiple pooling layers to improve network speed. The experiment uses public ECG data of 47 people and conducts comparative experiments using five networks with top 5 performance data among the public and the proposed networks. Experimental results show that the recognition performance of the proposed network is the highest with 99.28%, confirming potential of the personal recognition.

  • Background: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (A-fib) is a serious complication of cardiac surgery that is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. Traditional 24-hour Holter monitors have limitations, which have prompted the development of innovative wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring devices. This study assessed a patch-type wearable ECG device (MobiCARE-MC100) for monitoring A-fib in patients undergoing cardiac surgery and compared it with 24-hour Holter ECG monitoring. Methods: This was a single-center, prospective, investigator-initiated cohort study that included 39 patients who underwent cardiac surgery between July 2021 and June 2022. Patients underwent simultaneous monitoring with both conventional Holter and patchtype ECG devices for 24 hours. The Holter device was then removed, and patch-type monitoring continued for an additional 48 hours, to determine whether extended monitoring provided benefits in the detection of A-fib. Results: This 72-hour ECG monitoring study included 39 patients, with an average age of 62.2 years, comprising 29 men (74.4%) and 10 women (25.6%). In the initial 24 hours, both monitoring techniques identified the same number of paroxysmal A-fib in 7 out of 39 patients. After 24 hours of monitoring, during the additional 48-hour assessment using the patch-type ECG device, an increase in A-fib burden (9%→38%) was observed in 1 patient. Most patients reported no significant discomfort while using the MobiCARE device. Conclusion: In patients who underwent cardiac surgery, the mobiCARE device demonstrated diagnostic accuracy comparable to that of the conventional Holter monitoring system.

  • Long term Electrocardiogram (ECG) [1] analysis plays a key role in heart disease analysis. A combined detection of QRS-complex and P-wave in ECG signal for ubiquitous healthcare system was designed and implemented which can be used as an advanced warning device. The ECG features are used to detect life-threating arrhythmias, with an emphasis on the software for analyzing QRS complex and P-wave in wireless ECG signals at server after receiving data from base station. Based on abnormal ECG activity, the server will transfer alarm conditions to a doctor's Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Doctor can diagnose the patients who have survived from cardiac arrhythmia diseases.

  • The study was designed to transmit ECG(electrocardiogram) images from iPhone in order to check validity. Especially, web examined ECG transmissions from smart phones image viewer are good enough to secure clinical information and confirmed with visual. In result, it took 3 to 5 seconds for ECG viewer transmitting from a smart phone to display an image on mobile server to user's phone. For image valuation, we magnified the ECG image 100% or 200% at a resolution of $480{\times}320$ checking PQRST wave and found that it was both possible to see an accurate PQRST wave with all the trial data and to divide it into 1mm level of grid.

  • This paper proposes a new design of the ECG simulator with high resolution by using small amount of memories based on discrete least square estimation equations instead of reading the stored data inside the look-up table. The experimental results have shown that the ECG simulator using discrete least square estimation equations can display the bipolar limb leads ECG signals with low PRD (percent root-mean-square difference) while taking the less amount of memories than the previous method which used the look-up table to store ECG data for ECG simulation.

  • This paper presents an adaptive sampling method for electrocardiogram (ECG) signal detection. First, by employing the strings matching process with compression dictionary, we recognize each segment of ECG with different characteristics. Then, based on the non-uniform sampling strategy, the sampling rate is determined adaptively. As the results of simulation indicated, our approach reconstructed the ECG signal at an optimized sampling rate with the guarantee of ECG integrity. Compared with the existing adaptive sampling technique, our approach acquires an ECG signal at a 30% lower sampling rate. Finally, the experiment exhibits its superiority in terms of energy efficiency and memory capacity performance.

  • In this paper, we proposed multipurpose signal detection methods for ECG (electrocardiogram) based u-healthcare systems. For ECG based u-healthcare system, QRS signal extraction for cardiovascular disease diagnosis is essential. Also, for security and convenience reasons, it is desirable if u-healthcare system support biometric identification directly from user's bio-signal such as ECG for this case. For this, from Lead II signal, we developed QRS signal detection method and also, we developed signal extraction method for biometric identification using Lead II signal which is relatively robust from signal alteration by aging and diseases. For QRS signal detection capability from Lead II signal, ECG signals from MIT-BIH database are used and it showed 99.36% of accuracy and 99.68% of sensitivity. Also, to show the performance of signal extraction capability for biometric diagnosis purpose, Lead III signals are measured after drinking, smoking, or exercise to consider various monitoring conditions and it showed 99.92% of accuracy and 99.97% of sensitivity.

  • In this paper, we introduce an electrocardiogram (ECG) system designed to solve problems caused by wetgels and motion artifacts in measuring active movement. The system is called a dry-contact ECG and was designed by considering impedance matching between skin and electrode as well as the frictional electricity between electrode and clothes. In order to create the system, we measured impedance on the skin-electrode interface, and the result was applied to the electronic circuit scheme. Moreover, we added an electrode on the back of the measurement electrode to make a flow path to ground the electrical noise. The final ECG circuit and novel electrode were used to detect real human cardiac signals from a subject who was tested while standing still and walking. The signals obtained from the two activities were nicely shaped, without any motion artifact noise. We took electrode size into account in this study because the impedance depended on the area of the electrode. An electrode of 50 mm diameter showed the best curve for the ECG signal without any electrical noise.

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a graphical record of the voltages generated during the heart beats, and is very useful in observing the status of the heart of the human or animals. In this paper, an ECG monitoring system is developed for the small animals, such as the rat. This system is very useful in monitoring the side effect of drugs. Since small animals have faster heart rate than the human case, the monitoring system has a faster sampling frequency and processing speed. Furthermore, for a realtime monitoring of the small moving animals, the system is composed of a small wireless ECG module, which is based on the IEEE 802.121.4 wireless physical layer. The developed wireless ECG system can successfully monitor the ECG of small animals, such as the rat.
