This paper describes an efficient hardware design of WiBro security processor (WBSec) supporting for the security sub-layer of WiBro wireless internet system. The WBSec processor, which is based on AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) block cipher algorithm, performs data oncryption/decryption, authentication/integrity, and key encryption/decryption for packet data protection of wireless network. It carries out the modes of ECB, CTR, CBC, CCM and key wrap/unwrap with two AES cores working in parallel. In order to achieve an area-efficient implementation, two design techniques are considered; First, round transformation block within AES core is designed using a shared structure for encryption/decryption. Secondly, SubByte/InvSubByte blocks that require the largest hardware in AES core are implemented using field transformation technique. It results that the gate count of WBSec is reduced by about 25% compared with conventional LUT (Look-Up Table)-based design. The WBSec processor designed in Verilog-HDL has about 22,350 gates, and the estimated throughput is about 16-Mbps at key wrap mode and maximum 213-Mbps at CCM mode, thus it can be used for hardware design of WiBro security system.

This paper describes a design of crypto-processor that supports multiple block cipher algorithms of PRESENT, ARIA, and AES. The crypto-processor integrates three cores that are PRmo (PRESENT with mode of operation), AR_AS (ARIA_AES), and AES-16b. The PRmo core implementing 64-bit block cipher PRESENT supports key length 80-bit and 128-bit, and four modes of operation including ECB, CBC, OFB, and CTR. The AR_AS core supporting key length 128-bit and 256-bit integrates two 128-bit block ciphers ARIA and AES into a single data-path by utilizing resource sharing technique. The AES-16b core supporting key length 128-bit implements AES with a reduced data-path of 16-bit for minimizing hardware. Each crypto-core contains its own on-the-fly key scheduler, and consecutive blocks of plaintext/ciphertext can be processed without reloading key. The crypto-processor was verified by FPGA implementation. The crypto-processor implemented with a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library occupies 54,500 gate equivalents (GEs), and it can operate with 55 MHz clock frequency.

Exposure to UVB radiation can cause diverse biological photodamage to skin. Eeb 761 and Korean red ginseng are the major and most effective natural drug against a variety of oxidative damage. But, the protective effects against UVB radiation have not been clearly identified. In this study, we investigated the protective effect of topical EGb 761 and Korean red ginseng on pigmentation by UVB radiation. Pro-inflammatory cytokines($IL-l{\beta}$, IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$) and melanogenesis proteins(tyrosinase, TRP-1 and TRP-2) mRNA were measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) analysis. The in vivo protection against pigmentation was calculated using chromameter. The mRNA level of IL-lf and TNF-a were increased by UVB irradiation in treated and non-treated group, while no significant changes were observed in IL-6 level. Topical treatment with EGb 761 and Korean red ginseng remarkably reduced expression of tyrosinase, TRP-1 and TRP-2 in the non-irradiated and irradiated skin. Application of EGb 761 and Korean red ginseng significantly protected the WB-induced skin pigmentation and Korean red ginseng was more effective. Our study suggests that topical ECb761 and Korean red ginseng can regulate melanogenic proteins and protect UVB radiation on skin pigmentation.

A conventional contact type brake system which uses a hydraulic system has mny Problems such as time delay response due to pressure build-up, brake pad wear due to contact movement, bulky size, and low braking performance in high speed region. As vehicle speed increases, a more powerful brake system is required to ensure vehicle safety and reliability. In this work, a contactless brake system of an eddy current type is proposed to overcome problems. Optimal torque control which minimizes a braking distance is investigated with a scaled-down model of an eddy current type brake. It is possible to realize optimal torque control when a maximum friction coefficient (or desired slip ratio) corresponding to road condition is maintained. Braking force analysis for a scaled-down model is done theoretically and experimentally compensated. To accomplish optimal torque control of an eddy current type brake system, a sliding mode control technique which is, one of the robust nonlinear control technique is developed. Robustness of the sliding mode controller is verified by investigating the braking performance when friction coefficient is varied. Simulation and experimental results will be presented to show that it has superior performance compared to the conventional method.

Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA) supports a decision-making process such as establishment of environmental quality criteria. Soil quality criteria (SQC) are essential to protect soil organisms from the exposure to various soil contaminants. In this study, ERA methodologies of advanced countries for soil pollution were extensively compared to propose the ERA approach suitable for soil ecosystem in Korea. The soil ERAs in European Chemical Bureau(ECB), The Netherlands, and Canada can be classified as deterministic ecological risk assessment (DERA), and probabilistic ecological risk assessment (PERA) based on species sensitivity distribution (SSD). We propose three ERA methods according to abundance and reliability of soil ecotoxicity data. The method considered land use such as residential/agricultural, and industrial/commercial uses. The taxonomic groups of soil organism were classified as 'Class' level including different trophic levels (Magnoliopsida or Liliopsida, Clitellata, and Insecta or Secernentea). This study can be used to estimate the soil quality criteria to protect soil biota.
Current water quality standard (WQS) in Korea is based on the protection of human health, not considering the protection of aquatic organisms. Most of chemicals can be toxic to ecological biota as well as human. Health of aquatic biota is closely related to the human health via food chain, therefore ecological risk based-WQS needs to be developed to protect the aquatic ecosystem. In this study, we selected the 31 chemicals in the Project entitled 'Development of integrated methodology for evaluation of water environment'. The methodology for calculating water quality criteria was derived from the Australian and New Zealand processes for deriving guideline trigger value for aquatic ecosystem. The available ecotoxicity data were collected from US EPA's ECOTOXicology Database (ECOTOX), TOX-2000 Database, European Chemicals Bureau (ECB)'s International Uniform Chemical Information Database (IUCLID) and Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA)'s report 'Ambient Water Quality Criteria (AWQC)'. The aquatic toxicity data for the Korean species were selected for risk assessment to reflect the Korean water environment. The monitoring values were calculated from the water quality monitoring data four main Korean rivers. We suggested the order of priorities of chemicals based on ecological risk assessment. We expect that these results can be useful information for establishing the WQS for the protection of aquatic ecosystem.

This study proposes a new conceptual Hybrid Electric Brake System (HEBS) which overcomes problems of a conventional hydraulic brake system. HEBS adopt a contactless type bake system when a vehicle speed is high, to obtain superior braking performances by eddy current. On the contrary, when a vehicle speed is low, HEBS employs a contact type brake system such as conventional hydraulic brake system to generate higher brake force. Therefore, HEBS transfers faster the braking intention of drivers and guarantees the safety of drivers. Braking torque analysis is performed by using a mathematical model which is proposed to investigate the characteristic of a vehicle dynamics when the brake torque is applied. Optimal torque control is achieved by maintaining a desired slip corresponding to the road condition. The results show that HEBS reduces the stopping distance, saves the electric energy, and increases the stability.
Nuclear power plants have recognized the importance of nuclear cybersecurity. Based on regulatory guidelines and security-related standards issued by regulatory agencies around the world including IAEA, NRC, and KINAC, nuclear operating organizations and related systems manufacturing organizations, design companies, and regulatory agencies are considering methods to prepare for nuclear cybersecurity. Cryptographic algorithms have to be developed and applied in order to meet nuclear cybersecurity requirements. This paper presents methodologies for validating cryptographic algorithms that should be continuously applied at the critical control system of I&C in NPPs. Through the proposed schemes, validation programs are developed in the PLC, which is a critical system of a NPP's I&C, and the validation program is verified through simulation results. Since the development of a cryptographic algorithm validation program for critical digital systems of NPPs has not been carried out, the methodologies proposed in this paper could provide guidelines for Cryptographic Module Validation Modeling for Control Systems in NPPs. In particular, among several CMVP, specific testing techniques for ECB mode-based block ciphers are introduced with program codes and validation models.

The Epoxy-coated Reinforcing bars have been proved to be able to extend a durability life because of its excellent corrosion resistance in bridges and structures under marine and severe environments. The usage of epoxy-coated reinforcement is continuously increasing in developed countries such as the US and Japan. However, domestic use is extremely limited due to lack of research and development, poor production facilities, low quality, increase of initial costs, and difficulty of field management. This study suggests the improvement of construction quality management such as manufacturing, transportation and construction for the field application through the test construction of the proven product in the related test results of the epoxy coated steel bars produced in the recently improved manufacturing facility.
The purpose of ecological risk assessment in soil ecosystem is to protect ecological receptors and to provide a scheme of efficient management for soil contaminants. Developed countries have already prepared the methodologies of ecological risk assessment by considering their soil properties, land use, and ecological receptors. In this study, we compared the soil ecological risk assessment processes in the similarity and differences in methodology. Four countries, except for USA, adjusted the toxicological data for ecological risk assessment, based on their representative soil properties because the soil properties affect toxic effects to ecological receptors. The soil ecological risk assessment methodology of Netherlands and UK was based on 'Technical guidance document on risk assessment (TGD)' of European Chemical Bureau (ECB). Australia, USA, and Canada developed their autonomous methodology. In the Netherlands, UK, Australia, and Canada, they employed the species sensitivity distribution (SSD) approach if sufficient toxicity data are available. The USA determined the ecological soil screening level by obtaining the geometric mean of toxicological data for three species. Furthermore, all countries consider secondary poisoning in their soil ecological risk assessment. The latest risk assessment methodology of soil ecosystem that this study investigated can be used to explore what Korea needs to develop the Korean ecological risk assessment methodology of soil ecosystem in the future.
