  • Many process modeling techniques, such as Petri-net, UML Activity Diagram, and EPC, are used to design process models. In this paper, we analyze ubiquitous process design based on workflow patterns. In particular, we focus on process design using active rules that have the form of Event-Condition-Action, and deal with the WS-ECA language, which was devised for ubiquitous web services coordination. We first check whether workflow patterns can be designed with ECA rules, and we then provide WS-ECA representations for ECA rules of the patterns. The contribution of this paper is that ECA rule-based process models were presented based on workflow patterns and they can be a guideline for ubiquitous process modeling.

  • Wireless sensor network is a technology that collects the information about object in real-time. Sensor data has a characteristic that is generated an unprecedented volume data in short time. Analysis is essential to define the relationship between the data, including more of the data from a large volume data stream which is acquired from the sensor. In order to effectively handle the sensor data stream, in this paper, using ECA rules to organize data in a meaningful and more practical real-time monitoring systems is proposed.

  • As recent business environments are changed and become complex, a more efficient and effective business process management are needed. This paper proposes a new approach to the automatic execution of business processes using Event-Condition-Action (ECA) rules that can be automatically triggered by an active database. First of all, we propose the concept of blocks that can classify process flows into several patterns. A block is a minimal unit that can specify the behaviors represented in a process model. An algorithm is developed to detect blocks from a process definition network and transform it into a hierarchical tree model. The behaviors in each block type are modeled using ACTA formalism. This provides a theoretical basis from which ECA rules are identified. The proposed ECA rule-based approach shows that it is possible to execute the workflow using the active capability of database without users' intervention.

  • In logistic environments, a process, in that it manages the flow of materials among partners, involves more than one organization. In this regard, a logistic process, as a combined process consisting of multiple sub processes, needs to be managed with controling interaction among partners. In achieving systematic management of a logistic process, traditional Business Process Management (BPM) cannot be used for the entire flow, since it lacks the ability to manage interactions among partners. Particularly in logistic environments where RFID technologies are used, how to deal with the connection between RFID event and logistic flow has not been properly addressed. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a new method of managing multi-organizational logistic processes based on RFID events. We define inter-workflow pattern, and suggest ECA(Event-Condition-Action) rules for auto triggering of logistic processes. To adjust the rules to RFID events, we invent RFID-based ECA rules using complex event. A prototype system has been developed for the purpose of demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach.

  • Ubiquitous computing network comprises a variety of distributed service devices. Today Web services technology enables the heterogeneous devices to provide their own services and interact with each other via well-defined Internet protocol. Nevertheless, service devices in ubiquitous environments require more event-driven, autonomous interaction beyond rather passive service-oriented architecture of the present time. This paper presents an ECA (Event-Condition-Action) rule description language in an attempt to support capability for autonomous interactions among service-oriented devices in ubiquitous computing network. Specifically, the proposed WS-ECA is an XML-based ECA rule description language for web service-enabled devices. The rules are embedded in distributed devices which invoke appropriate services in the network if the rules are triggered by some internal or external events. The presented ECA-based device coordination approach is expected to facilitate seamless inter-operation among the web service-enabled devices in the emerging ubiquitous computing environment.

  • The demand for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers and LNG-fueled ships has significantly increased in recent years due to the sulfur-oxide emission regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The main goal of this paper is to introduce the process for the Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA) of IMO independent type-B cargo tanks made from 9% nickel alloy. A methodology proposed by the British Standard was used to conduct ECA for any structure with initial flaws. Based on this standard, a Matlab code was developed to perform ECA. Coarse mesh Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed on an independent type-B LNG cargo tank with a capacity of 15,000 m3. The location with the highest development of maximum principal stress was identified at the bottom of the cargo tank. Fine mesh FEA was performed to obtain the stress range required for ECA. The dynamic cargo tank loads used for FEA were determined using some ship rules presented by Det Norske Veritas. As a result of performing a 20-year long-term crack propagation analysis with a semi-elliptical surface crack, the fracture-to-yield ratio exceeded the Fracture Assessment Line (FAL) and some structural reinforcement was necessary. Performing a 15-day short-term crack propagation analysis, the fracture-to-yield ratio remained within the FAL, and no significant LNG leaks were expected. This paper is believed to provide a guide for performing ECA of LNG cargo tanks in the future by providing the basic theory and application sample necessary to perform ECA.

  • The development of IT technology has brought many changes in military operations. For example, the way of transmitting and receiving information from one another has changed. Partiicularly, in the case of the ROK Navy, they utilize encrypted real-time chattig over wire wireless network in operations and tranings. However, text communication is being utilized more in exanging of simple informations, and not for the partical informations required in the operations and exercises, doctrines and guidebooks are still being used in these cases. Therefore, I have designed a rule-based engine which can provide real-time informations by linking ECA rules to text communication, and it has been verified by running virtual scenarios. As a rusult, this engine showed an accuracy of 83%.

Described policy base management information consisted of ECA(Event-Condition-Action) rules so that efficient management of various communication network and consistent management policy may be available in this paper. Policy is consisted of Event, Condition and Actions to achieve when condition is satisfied. And we can present formality of dynamic function of management object as applying policy to ATM congestion control model been applying in real environment.

  • In ubiquitous environment, various and amount of sensor data information occur continuously and periodically about thing and user from RHO, sensor network of various space. Such, the users from among many of provider who provide sensor service should find service that themselves is wanted. And when service use, service right to user should be provided. But in the current environment of the USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) Application Service, there is no the registry to find these services but only business- oriented UDDI(Universal Description Discovery, and integration). In addition, when service use, service right to user should be provided but current services provided only services one of the conditions or events. Therefore, rules-based processing system of service event that can provide service according various conditions and events is need. In this paper research into service registry for sensor service search with reference to existing UDDI and event processing system for USN application service with reference to event rule based on web service as WS-ECA(Web Service-Event Condition Action).
