  • The optimum management of nutrient solution needs the effective combination of fertilizers as well as the accurate control of nutrient solution. This study was attempt to make a supporting system for effective fertilizer combination by using computer and also to develop a EC predicting equation for keeping the EC of solution within the allowable range after application of combined fertilizers. The supporting system consists of three parts : (1) data bases, (2) rules for deciding the kinds and amounts of fertilizers and (3) main control. With input data, the main control automatically constructs the network connecting the related data bases and subsequently executes the operation of searching proper fertilizers through it. For more effective searching, fertilizers are classified into two levels(level 1 and level 2) in consideration of solubility, price, and frequency in use, and searched in that order. The EC prediction equation, a extended form of the Robinson and Stroke's theoretical equation only available for a binary electrolyte, is suggested for predicting the EC of the nutrient solution containing many kinds of inorganic compounds. The comparison of predicted and measured ECs showed good agreements with the high correlation between the predicted EC decrement by ion interaction and the actual one(limiting EC minus measured EC).

AllEC: An Implementation of Application for EC Numbers Prediction based on AEC Algorithm

  • With the development of sequencing technology, there is a need for technology to predict the function of the protein sequence. Enzyme Commission (EC) numbers are becoming markers that distinguish the function of the sequence. In particular, many researchers are researching various methods of predicting the EC numbers of protein sequences based on deep learning. However, as studies using various methods exist, a problem arises, in which the exact prediction result of the sequence is unknown. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an All Enzyme Commission (AEC) algorithm. The proposed AEC is an algorithm that executes various prediction methods and integrates the results when predicting sequences. This algorithm uses duplicates to give more weights when duplicate values are obtained from multiple methods. The largest value, among the final prediction result values for each method to which the weight is applied, is the final prediction result. Moreover, for the convenience of researchers, the proposed algorithm is provided through the AllEC web services. They can use the algorithms regardless of the operating systems, installation, or operating environment.

A New Predictive EC Algorithm for Reduction of Memory Size and Bandwidth Requirements in Wavelet Transform (웨이블릿 변환의 메모리 크기와 대역폭 감소를 위한 Prediction 기반의 Embedded Compression 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, a new prediction based embedded compression (EC) codec algorithm for the JPEG2000 encoder system is proposed to reduce excessive memory requirements. The EC technique can reduce the 50 % memory requirement for intermediate low-frequency coefficients during multiple discrete wavelet transform (DWT) stages compared with direct implementation of the DWT engine of this paper. The LOCO-I predictor and MAP are widely used in many lossless picture compression codec. The proposed EC algorithm use these predictor which are very simple but surprisingly effective. The predictive EC scheme adopts a forward adaptive quantization and fixed length coding to encoding the prediction error. Simulation results show that our LOCO-I and MAP based EC codecs present only PSNR degradation of 0.48 and 0.26 dB in average, respectively. The proposed algorithm improves the average PSNR by 1.39 dB compared to the previous work in [9].

  • As the automation of nutrient solution management proceeds in the field of hydroponics, effective supporting systems to manage the nutrient solution by computer become needed. This study was attempt to predict the EC of nutrient solution using the neural networks. The multilayer perceptron consisting of 3 layers with the back propagation learning algorithm was selected for EC prediction, of which nine variables in the input layer were the concentrations of each ion and one variable in the output layer the EC of nutrient solution. The meq unit in ion concentration was selected fir input variable in the input layer. After the 10,000 learning sweeps with 108 sample data, the comparison of predicted and measured ECs for 72 test data showed good agreements with the correlation coefficient of 0.998. In addition, the predicted ECs by neural network showed relatively equal or closer to the measured ones than those by current complicated models.

  • A simple but accurate analytical method to evaluate the fire resistance of unprotected concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns under standard fire condition is proposed based on the fire design framework of EC4. To this end, the accuracy of the current tabulation method for the temperature prediction proposed by Lawson et al. was first critically evaluated, and a new prediction equation for the temperature gradient across the CFT section was then proposed based on available test and finite element analysis results. Overall, the axial strength predicted by using the proposed equation under the general fire design framework of EC4 was more accurate than that based on existing methods and appeared reasonable for design purposes. The results of this study are directly usable for the more rational fire analysis and design of unprotected CFT columns.

Relations of Serum Visfatin and Resistin Levels with Endometrial Cancer and Factors Associated with its Prognosis

  • Background: The aims of this study were compare the serum visfatin and resistin levels between endometrial cancer (EC) patients and controls and evaluate their power to predict prognosis. Materials and Methods: This prospective study was conducted between March 2013 to June 2014 on the Gynecologic Oncology Department of the University of Selcuk, Konya, Turkey. A total of 42 EC patients and 42 controls were included and assessed for differences in serum visfatin and resistin levels, along with prognostic factors. Results: Endometrial cancer patients had significantly higher visfatin levels than control s (p: 0.011), associated with deep myometrial invasion (p: 0.019). In contrast the serum level of resistin did not significantly differ between EC patients and controls (p: 0.362). However, high resistin level in EC patients was associated with increase lymph node metastasis (p: 0.009). On logistic regression analysis, we found that serum visfatin elevation was associated with risk of myometrial invasion (OR: 1,091; 95%CI: 1.021-1.166; p: 0.010) and serum resistin with risk of lymph node metastasis (OR: 1.018; 95%CI: 1.000-1.035; p: 0.046). For myometrial invasion prediction, a serum visfatin level greater than 26.8 ng/mL demonstrated a sensitivity and specificity of 66.6 % and 96.4%, respectively. For lymph node metastasis prediction, the best cut-off for serum resistin level was 599ng/mL. A serum resistin level greater than this demonstrated a sensitivity and specificity of 87.5% and 77.1%, respectively. Conclusions: Our data suggest that serum visfatin is elevated in patients with EC and serum visfatin and resistin levels could be used to predict the risk of advance stage lesions.

Evaluation of Creep Models with the Consideration of Concrete's Strength Level (콘크리트 강도대별 크리프 예측모델 평가)

  • Recent concrete structures have been being constructed with higher strength concrete than normal strength concrete. Therefore, it is necessary to review the applicabilities of current design codes and models for the prediction of mechanical behaviors of concrete materials such as creep. To investigate the applicability of creep model with the consideration of the strength level of concrete, three current models (ACI 209R, CEB-FIP MC90 and EC2) were studied and compared with series of experimental results. It was shown that EC2 model which is the updated model of CEB-FIP MC90 better predicts creep coefficient for high strength level concretes and showed relatively good agreements with experimental data.

Prediction of $EC_{50}$ of Photobacterium phosphoreum for CAHs and Chlorophenol Derivatives Using QSAR (QSAR방법을 이용한 CAHs와 Chlorophenol 유도체에 대한 $EC_{50}$값 예측)

  • Measurement of inhibition of bioluminescence in Photobacterium phosphoreum has been porposed as a sensitive and rapid procedure to monitor toxic substances. However, at first, $EC_{50}$ which shows degree of toxicity to each toxic substances must be calculated. QSAR (Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship) model can be used to estimate $EC_{50}$ to save time and endeavor. Moderately high correlation coefficients ($r^2{\geq}$ 0.97) were calculated from the linear correlation between $EC_{50}$ and molecular connectivity indices of CAHs (chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons)such as $^0X$, $^0X^V$, $^1X$, $^2X$ and $^3X^v_c$ and quadratic correlation between $EC_{50}$ and $^0X$, $^0X^V$, $^2X^V$, $^3X_c$, $^3X^V_c$ and P. It shows that the molecular connection indices in carbon structure is contributed to biological characters with linear relation and that in the other one with quadratic relation. The $EC_{50}$ of chlorophenol derivatives had quadratic relation with the value of octanol/water prtition coefficients ($r^2$=0.99) and linear and quadratic relation with the number of chlorine compound (($r^2{\geq}$0.94). This confirms the already known trend of increasing toxicity with increasing ability of a compound to diffuse through cell membrane and number of chlorine substitution.

Error Concealment Using Inter-layer Correlation for Scalable Video Coding

  • In this paper, we propose a new error concealment (EC) method using inter-layer correlation for scalable video coding. In the proposed method, the auxiliary motion vector (MV) and the auxiliary mode number (MN) of intra prediction are interleaved into the bitstream to recover the corrupted frame. In order to reduce the bit rate, the proposed method encodes the difference between the original and the predicted values of the MV and MN instead of the original values. Experimental results show that the proposed EC outperforms the conventional EC by 2.8 dB to 6.7 dB.

  • 최근 인터넷 상에서 제공되는 영상 서비스에 대한 요구가 증가하고 있다. 하지만 네트워크 환경에서 전송되는 데이터는 오류로 인하여 쉽게 손실될 수 있다. 특히 HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding)와 같이 높은 압축률로 압축된 정보에 대한 전송 오류는 영상 복원에 심각한 영향을 끼친다. 따라서 네트워크 환경에서 일정한 화질을 유지하기 위한 오류 은닉(Error Concealment : EC) 방법이 필요하다. 본 논문은 HEVC EC 를 위한 PU(Prediction Unit) 기반 움직임 벡터 외삽법(Motion Vector Extrapolation : MVE) 모델을 제안한다. PU 는 예측의 기본 단위로써 PU 내에 동일한 물체가 포함될 확률이 높다. 따라서, 이 모델은 손실된 프레임의 이전 프레임이 갖는 PU 정보를 이용하여 PU 단위로 외삽(extrapolation)을 실시한다. 또한, 손실된 블록과 외삽 블록간의 관계를 고려하여 겹쳐진(overlapped) 외삽 블록 중 가장 작은 PU 크기를 EC 기본 단위로 결정한다. 이 방법은 PU 정보를 반영함으로써 블록 경계 오류(block artifact)를 감소시킨다.
