조간대 갯벌에서의 도요·물떼새 서식지수용능력 추정 (Estimating Habitat Carrying Capacity of Shorebirds in the Intertidal Mudflat)

  • Shorebirds migrating along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF) have been drastically decreasing due to continuous area loss and quality degradation of intertidal mudflats in the Yellow Sea. Evaluating the current habitat quality by means of habitat carrying capacity estimation could be effective in predicting the magnitude of impacts caused by habitat loss and provide better understanding to improve management strategies. In this study, we estimated the total biomass of Macrophthalmus japonicus, a main prey item of curlews in the Korea peninsular as habitat carrying capacity of the southern intertidal mudflat of Ganghwa Island, one of the key stopover sites for curlews in the EAAF. The result of the estimation took into account spatial differences of prey biomass and the available foraging time by tide patterns. Accordingly, it was found that curlew populations account for 30.26% of the habitat carrying capacity. When we calculated the mean biomass of the area and extrapolated it to the whole area to calculate the total biomass, it was found that the curlews have consumed 10.92% of the total biomass. The results show that the habitat carrying capacity of the southern intertidal mudflat of Ganghwa Island has decreased by 7.8% compared to a study conducted twenty years ago employing the same method. This study shows that there can be considerable differences in the results of habitat carrying capacity estimation between different methods, indicating that various environmental factors that affect the estimation results of habitat carrying capacity must be considered to achieve a more precise analysis and assessment.

EA 성숙도 모델의 적용 사례분석 및 개선방안 (An Improvement Study of EA Maturity Models based on a Case Application Analysis)

  • Korean government has operated EA by the act on efficient introduction of information system and operation. etc. But the utilization and the evaluation system for EA don't prepare well. In this study. we analyzed characteristics and advantages of EA maturity models that is developed by some domestic and foreign government departments in logical view. and then we derive evaluation scopes and factors of the models. Also. we applied the models to EA maturity for the B organization and measured maturity levels. We identify similarity and difference between the models. We propose evaluation scopes, levels and factors between the models and solutions for evaluation ambiguity by evaluators and maturity improvement through the identified results.

Re-emergence of the Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) in inland South Korea

  • Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), which has never been recorded in South Korea, appeared on Jeju Island in 2018 and re-emerged in the inland area of Seocheon-gun (South Chungcheong Province) and in Goyang-si (Gyeonggi Province) in the following year. This study aims to report the progress in observing P. falcinellus in the inland areas of South Korea in 2019 and to predict its origin region and future propensity for habitats in the country through literature review. On 5 May 2019, an individual of P. falcinellus with breeding feathers was observed in a farmland in Wolsan-ri, Seocheon-gun. Twelve days later, another one was identified in a farmland in Janghang-dong, Goyang-si, about 173 km north of Wolsan-ri. The observed birds fed and rested in the area and stayed for only a day. The individual birds spotted in South Korea in 2019 are conjectured to have come from either Southeast Asia or Australia, among areas located in East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF). This is because P. falcinellus, a species with excellent dispersal capacity, forms a population in new areas during extreme environmental changes in their current habitats, especially droughts. For 2 years, P. falcinellus was observed to be migrating in spring; however, in the future, they may exhibit the same propensity for breeding and habitats as that of birds migrating in autumn. As it is a conspicuous species, effective detection of their arrival requires a survey system that classifies the country by habitat type and involves periodic and multiple observations by experts and citizens.

Effect of Non-starch Polysaccharides on Mucin Secretion and Endogenous Amino Acid Losses in Pigs

  • This study was undertaken to examine the influence of soluble non-starch polysaccharides on growth performance, mucin secretion, and endogenous amino acid flows in weaner pigs. Different levels (0, 4 and 7.5%) of purified corn arabinoxylan (AX) or barley $\beta$-glucan extract (BG) were substituted for cellulose in a purified diet based on starch, sucrose and enzymatically hydrolyzed casein. All diets contained titanium oxide as an indigestible marker. Each experimental diet was fed to five, 6-wk old weaner pigs for 21 days. Average daily gain (p<0.05) and feed conversion ratio (p<0.01) were improved with dietary inclusion of 7.5% AX and BG, indicating high degradation rates of AX and BG in pigs. Crude mucin contents and endogenous nitrogen flow were increased (p<0.05) with increased levels of AX, but not with BG. Numerical increases in endogenous amino acid flow (EAAF) were observed with increased levels of AX but no definite trend with BG. Endogenous amino acid flow in pigs fed mixed NSP diets (4% BG and 3.5% cellulose) was significantly higher (p<0.05) than those fed 7.5% BG diets. Among diets containing pure sources of soluble non-starch polysaccharides, endogenous amino acid flows were highest in 7.5% AX (p<0.05), intermediate in BG, and lowest in control diet. Increased flows (p<0.01) of threonine, proline and serine in pigs fed 7.5% AX diets are consistent with the increased flow of crude mucin determined in this treatment. In conclusion, mucin and endogenous amino acid flows were increased with dietary inclusion of AX, which could be related to its physicochemical property, particularly its high water-holding capacity. In contrast, $\beta$-glucan, due to its high degradation rate in pig, may be considered as unimportant factor in inducing mucin and endogenous amino acid secretions, at least at levels such as those used in this study.

이동성 물새 서식지로서 습윤토양관리 습지의 국내 적용 가능성 (Potential Applicability of Moist-soil Management Wetland as Migratory Waterbird Habitat in Republic of Korea)

  • 한국의 내륙습지는 동아시아-대양주 철새 이동경로 상 중요한 번식지 및 월동지를 제공하고 있고, 연안습지는 철새들에게 영양분이 풍부한 중간기착지를 제공하는 역할을 하고 있다. 하지만, 1960년대 이후, 한국은 농경지와 도심 확장을 위해 점진적으로 연안습지를 매립하였고, 야생생물 연안습지 서식지 손실로 인한 이동성 물새 개체수 감소를 야기 하였다. 미국(특히, 미주리주)은 이러한 습지 야생생물 다양성 및 개체수 감소를 막기 위해 습윤토양관리 기법을 개발 하여 야생생물 서식지 보전과 개체수 관리를 하고 있다. 습윤토양관리 기법은 습지 야생생물의 서식지 조건을 최대한 충족하는 상태로 습지를 관리하여 서식지 수용력을 높이는 습지관리 기법이다. 습윤토양관리 지역을 조성하기 위해서는 제방과 물의 흐름을 조절할 수 있는 수문을 만들고, 토양, 지형, 가용한 수원 등을 관리 하여야 한다. 또한, 습윤토양관리 지역은 범람과 배수지역을 정기적으로 특정시기에 관리하고, 다년생 식물생장으로 인한 육상화 억제를 위해 일정기간 동안의 토양교란으로 서식지를 관리 하여야 한다. 이러한 관리 기법은 두가지 목적을 가지고 있는데, 하나는 원하지 않은 식물 생육 통제이고, 다른 하나는 야생생물의 서식지와 먹이원을 최대화 하기 위함이다. 범람과 배수 일정은 지역을 고려한 기후적인 변화에 맞도록 유동적으로 반영하여야 한다. 한국의 위도는 미주리 주와 유사해서 습윤토양관리 기법이 한국에 맞는 효과적인 습지조성 및 관리기법으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 특히, 이동성 물새(도요 물떼새) 중간기착지와 같은 서식지로의 중요한 역할을 하는 연안습지 인근지역에서 습윤토양관리 기법을 실험적으로 적용하여 한국의 여건(지리, 미기후, 생물종 분포 등)에 맞는지 세부적인 방법을 모색해 보는 연구가 필요하다. 습윤토양관리 기법은 멸종위기 야생생물들에게 주요 서식지를 조성해 줄 뿐만 아니라, 폭넓은 습지 생태계서비스 가치를 함께 제공해 줄 것이다.

강화도 남단에 도래하는 도요새들의 해안 내륙 휴식지 이용과 이들의 이용에 영향을 미치는 환경요인들 (Environmental factors affecting roost use of shorebirds in the southern Kanghwa Island, Republic of Korea)

  • 도요 물떼새들은 만조시에 해안 내륙 휴식지에서 휴식을 취하는데, 휴식지를 선택할 때 여러 가지 요소들을 고려한다. 우리는 도요 물떼새 8종(알락꼬리마도요 Numenius madagascariensis, 청다리도요 Tringa nebularia, 큰뒷부리도요 Limosa lapponica, 개꿩 Pluvialis squatarola, 민물도요 Calidris alpine, 중부리도요 Numenius phaeopus, 마도요 Numenius arquata, 뒷부리도요 Xenus cinereus)을 대상으로 휴식지의 시공간적 이용과 그 이용에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 분석하였다. 휴식지 내 고인 물의 면적과 길이, 기온, 풍속, 종별로 이동시기, 방해정도를 변수로 고려하였다. 시공간적으로, 이용하는 종이 달랐으며 개체수 또한 변동을 거듭하였다. 그리고 도요 물떼새의 휴식지 이용에 영향을 미치는 요인은 종-특이적이었다. 연구지역의 휴식지는 폐장한 새우양식장이었으나 조사 기간 중 염생습지에서 자라는 함초 Salicornia herbacea 농장으로 전환하였다. 휴식지가 필요한 상황에서, 도요 물떼새들의 생태를 기초로 해서 기존 휴식지를 관리할 것을 권한다. 더불어, 여름철 가뭄에는 양식장의 수문을 열어주어 도요 물떼새들이 물을 이용해 체온관리를 할 수 있게 해주고, 만조시 도요 물떼새들이 양식장 안으로 날아 들어올 수 있도록 새들이 휴식지를 찾기 시작하는 만조 전네 시간부터는 농장 작업을 안 할 것을 권한다.
