Design of an High Efficiency Pallet Power Amplifier Module (S-대역 고효율 Pallet 전력증폭기 모듈 설계)

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of a high-efficiency GaN HEMT(Gallium Nitride High-electron Mobility Transistor) Pallet power amplifier module for S-band phased array radar applications. Pallet amplifier module has a series 2-cascaded power amplifier and the final amplification-stage consists of balanced GaN HEMT transistor. In order to achieve high efficiency characteristic of pallet power amplifier module, all amplifiers are designed to the switching-mode amplifier. We performed with various PRF(Pulse Repetition Frequency) of 1, 10, 100 and 1000Hz at a fixed pulse width of $100{\mu}s$. In the experimental results, the output power, gain, and drain efficiency(${\eta}_{total}$) of the Pallet power amplifier module are 300W, 33dB, and 51% at saturated output power of 2.9GHz, respectively.

Optimization of 1D 1H Quantitative NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) Conditions for Polar Metabolites in Meat

  • The objective of this study was to establish an optimized 1D $^1H$ quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR) analytical method for analyzing polar metabolites in meat. Three extraction solutions [0.6 M perchloric acid, 10 mM phosphate buffer, water/methanol (1:1)], three reconstitution buffers [20 mM 3-morpholinopropane-1-sulfonic acid, 2-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazin-1-yl]ethanesulfonic acid, phosphate buffer], and two pulse programs (zg30, noesypr1d) were evaluated. Extraction with 0.6 M perchloric acid and 20 mM phosphate resulted in a stable baseline and no additional overlap for quantifying polar metabolites in chicken breast. In qNMR analysis, zg30 pulse program (without water-suppression) showed smaller relative standard deviation (RSD) and faster running time than noesypr1d (water-suppression). High-performance liquid chromatography was compared with qNMR analyses to validate accuracy. The zg30 pulse program showed good accuracy and lower RSD. The optimized qNMR method was able to apply for beef and pork samples. Thus, an optimized 1D $^1H$ qNMR method for meat metabolomics was established.

Patterns of Pulsatile and Surge Modes of Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Treated with Different Progesterone Levels in Ovariectomized Goats (난소제거된 Shiba 염소에서 다른 농도의 Progesterone 처치에 의한 FSH Surge 및 Pulse 분비에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of the present study was to determine the progesterone levels that effects on the pulsatile and surge modes of FSH secretion. In previous studies we have shown that LH surge occurred in the follicular levels of progesterone, whereas there was no surge mode secretion of LH in either the sub luteal or luteal levels of progesterone. LH pulsatile frequencies were high in two groups such as follicular level and sub luteal level. But in the luteal level of progesterone the pulsatile pattern of LH were strongly suppressed. Namely, sub luteal levels of progesterone, around 1 ng/ml, completely suppressed the LH surge but did not affect the pulsatile frequency of LH secretion. Because of this we hypothesized that the two secretory patterns of FSH are similar to that of LH. Long-term ovariectomized Shiba goats that had received implants of estradiol capsules and three different progesterone silastic packet inducing follicular, subluteal and luteal levels of progesterone were divided into three groups such as non-P, low-P and high-P group. Blood samples were collected daily throughout the experiment for the analysis of gonadal steroid hormone levels and at 10-min intervals for 8 h on Days 0, 3, and 7 (Day 0: just before progesterone treatment) for analysis of the pulsatile frequency of FSH secretion. Then estradiol was infused into the jugular vein of all animals at a rate of 3 ${\mu}/h$ for 16 h on Day 8 to determine whether an FSH surge was induced. Blood samples were collected every 2 h from 4 h before the start of the estradiol infusion until 48 h after the start of the infusion. In each group, the mean ${\pm}$ SEM concentration after progesterone implant treatment was 3.3 ${\pm}$ 0.1 ng/ml for the high P group, 1.1 ${\pm}$ 0.1 ng/ml for the low P group, and < 0.1 ng/ml for the non-P group, concentrations similar to the luteal levels, subluteal levels, and follicular phase levels of the normal estrous cycle, respectively. The FSH pulse frequency was maintained highly in all groups on Day 0, Day 3 and Day 7. An FSH surge was induced in all 4 cases of the Non-P group. In the High P and Low P groups, the plasma concentrations of FSH remained low until 48 h after the start of estradiol infusion, and no occurrence of FSH surge was found in any of the animals. The results of this study not only confirm that the pulsatile patterns of FSH were not inhibited strongly relative to LH, they also suggest that some other mechanism and factor may be controlling the FSH secretion.

Recent Advance in High Pressure Induction Plasma Source

  • An induction thermal plasma system have been newly designed for advanced operation with a pulse modulated mode to control the plasma power in time domain and to create non-equilibrium effects such as fast quenching of the plasma to produce new functional materials in high rate. The system consists of MOSFET power supply with a maximum power of 50 kW with a frequency of 460 kHz, an induction plasma torch with a 10-turns coil of 80 mm diameter and 150 mm length and a vacuum chamber. The pulse modulated plasma was successfully generated at a plasma power of 30 kW and a high pressure of 100 kPa, with taking the on and off time as 10 ms, respectively. Measurements were carried out on the time-dependent spectral lines emitted from Ar species. The dynamic behavior of plasma temperature in a pulse cycle was estimated by the Boltzmann plot and the excitation temperature of Ar atom was found to be changed periodically from around 0.5 to 1.7 eV during the cycle. Two application regions of the induction thermal plasma newly generated were introduced to material processing with high rate synthesis based on non equilibrium effects, and to the finding of new arc quenching gases coming necessary for power circuit breaker, which is friendly with earth circumstance alternative to SF6 gas.

  • This paper covers the importance of a dedicated Power Line Filter implementation against HEMP(High altitude ElectroMagnetic Pulse) threats caused by high altitude nuclear detonations. As the PCI test results for E1 short pulse with 2500[A], only HEMP filter obtained the required residual current around 8[A], but others didn't meet below 10[A] on MIL-STD-188-125 PCI regulation. Consequently, the development of a dedicated power line filter turned out to be a essential element in order to protect the power related system against HEMP transient.

  • A compact discharge plasma system with a photocatalyst has been proposed and investigated experimentally for application to air conditioners. It was found that there was intense ultra violet radiation with high energy of 3.2 eV from the corona discharge due to the DC-biased pulse voltage applied on a wire. An electrophotochemical reaction took place apparently on the surfaces of the photocatalyst of $TiO_2$ irradiated ultra violet front the discharge plasma in the proposed plasma system. The proposed discharge plasma system with the photocatalyst of $TiO_2$ showed very high removal efficiency of VOCs by tile additional electrophotochemical reactions on the photocatalyst. The proposed discharge plasma system also showed very high removal efficiency of particles such as smokes, suspended bacteria, and pollen and mite allergens by the electrostatic precipitation part. This type of corona discharge plasma system with a photocatalyst can be used as an effective means of removing both indoor pollutant gases and particles including suspended allergens.

  • 송전선로에 설취된 애자들은 지속적인 전기적 기계적 스트레스에 노출되어 있기 때문에 여러 환경적 요인으로 인해 애자 표변의 열화가 가속된다. 이와 같은 애자의 표면 열화는 dryband를 형성하게 되고 지속적인 애자 표면상의 dryband와 누설 전류 증가의 상호 작용은 애자의 섬락를 일으키는 원인이 된다.[1][2] 이러한 연구의 결과 고전압용 애자로 유입되는 누설 전류는 애자 열화의 정도를 평가할 수 있는 매우 중요한 parameter임을 알 수 있다. 따라서 고전압용 애자의 누설전류를 분석하고 취득하여 애자의 열화 평가 및 이로 인해 발생할 수 있는 결함 애자의 검출에 대한 연구가 절실히 요구되고 있다, 본 논문에서는 고전압용 애자 중 자기애자의 누설전류 특성을 조사하기 위해 자체 제작한 실험 챔버, AC 내전압기, 전류센서r, 오실로스코프, PC등으로 구성된 실험 시스템을 구축하였고, 데이터 분석을 위한 S/W로서 LabView를 사용하였다. 그에 따른 실험 결과로서 정상 애자련과 결함 애자를 포함한 애자련의 누설전류 데이터를 취득하여 본 연구에서 제시한 알고리즘을 통해 분석함으로써 정상 애자 내의 결함 애자 포함 여부를 판별할 수 있었다.

An Optical Pulse-Width Modulation Generator Using a Single-Mode Fabry-Pérot Laser Diode

  • We have proposed and experimentally verified a pulse-width modulation (PWM) generator which directly generated a PWM signal in the optical domain. Output waveforms were clear at the repetition rate of 16 MHz; the duty cycle (DC) was from 14.7% to 72.1%; and the DC-control resolution was about 4.399%/dB. The PWM generator' operation principle is based on the injection-locking property of a single-mode Fabry-$P{\acute{e}}rot$ laser diode (SMFP-LD). The SMFP-LD, which has a self-locked mode wavelength at ${\lambda}_{PWM}$, was used to detect the power of the injection-locking signal (optical analog input). If the analog input power is high, the SMFP-LD is locked to the wavelength of the input signal ${\lambda}_a$ and there is no output after an optical bandpass filter (OBF). If the analog input power is low, the SMFP-LD is unlocked and there is output signal at ${\lambda}_{PWM}$ after the OBF. Thus, the SMFP-LD plus the OBF provide digital output for an analog input. The DC of the output PWM signal can be controlled by tuning the power of the analog input.

  • Background and purpose: Giu Ga Chu Yo(診家樞要) was written in the year 1359 by Hwal Su(滑壽) who was a famous oriental doctor between Won(元) and Myeong(明) dynasty. As specialized in sphygmology (脈學), this book was brought together most things about sphygmology(脈擧) before Won(元) dynasty by e author. Moreover he added the self-realized things to this book. Methods: In this book, besides a author's preface, there are all 20 chapters which are Chu Yo Hyeon Eon(權要玄言), Jwa U Su Bae Jang Bu Bu Wi(左右手配臟腑部位), O Jang(五臟), Sa Si Peong Maek(四時平脈), Nae Gyeong Sam Bu Maek Beop(內經三部脈法), Ho Heup Chim Bu Jeong O Jang Beop(呼吸沈浮定五臟法), In Ji Ha Gyeong Jung I Jeing O Jang Beop(因指下重以定五腑法), Sam Bu So Ju(三部所主), Ji Maek Su Beop(持脈手法), Maek Gwi Yu Sin(脈貴有神), Maek Eum Yang Yu Seong(脈陰陽類成), Gyeom Hyeon Maek Ryu(兼見脈類), Je Maek Ui Gi Ryu(諾脈宜忌類), Heom Je Sa Jeung Ryu(驗諸死症類), Sa Jeol Maek Ryu(死絶脈類), O Jang Dong Ji Maek(五藏動止脈), Bu In Maek Beop(婦人脈法), So A Mrek Beop(小兒脈法), Maek Sang Tong Hoe(脈象統會), Maek Sang Ga(脈象歌) and an epilogue in the end. Result and Conclusion: Looking into this book, we can know that it is very detail in analyzing item by item, bright and simple in explaining and it is very useful in studying pulse evaluation(脈診). In his preface, Hwal Su(辨壽) expresses his opinion with firm confidence that 'Do(道) of the World scattered in several scholarships and books of method and technique(術). Nothing of method and technique(力術) is more important than medicine. Nothing of medicine goes before pulse evaluation(脈診).' With such good reasons, as a student of sphygmology(脈學), I think this book is very valuable in studying pulse evaluation.' So I add Hangul suffixes(吐) to a part of this book and translate it into Korean.

Detection of Iron Nanoparticles using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Relaxometry and Inverse Laplace Transform

  • Purpose: Rapid detection of bacteria is very important in agricultural and food industries to prevent many foodborne illnesses. The objective of this study was to develop a portable nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based system to detect foodborne pathogens (E. coli). This study was focused on developing a method to detect low concentrations of magnetic nanoparticles using NMR techniques. Methods: NMR relaxometry was performed to examine the NMR properties of iron nanoparticle mixtures with different concentrations by using a 1 T permanent magnet magnetic resonance imaging system. Exponential curve fitting (ECF) and inverse Laplace transform (ILT) methods were used to estimate the NMR relaxation time constants, $T_1$ and $T_2$, of guar gum solutions with different iron nanoparticle concentrations (0, $10^{-3}$, $10^{-4}$, $10^{-5}$, $10^{-6}$, and $10^{-7}M$). Results: The ECF and ILT methods did not show much difference in these values. Analysis of the NMR relaxation data showed that the ILT method is comparable to the classical ECF method and is more sensitive to the presence of iron nanoparticles. This study also showed that the spin-spin relaxation time constants acquired by a Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) pulse sequence are more useful for determining the concentration of iron nanoparticle solutions comparwith the spin-lattice relaxation time constants acquired by an inversion recovery pulse sequence. Conclusions: We conclude that NMR relaxometry that utilizes CPMG pulse sequence and ILT analysis is more suitable for detecting foodborne pathogens bound to magnetic nanoparticles in agricultural and food products than using inversion recovery pulse sequence and ECF analysis.
