  • This study verified the relationship between fracture mechanics parameters and X-ray parameters for normalized SS41 steel with homogeneous crystal structure and M.E.F. dual phase steel(martensite encapsulated islands of ferrite). The fatigue crack propagation test were carried out and X-ray diffraction technique was applied to fatigue fractured surface. The change in X-ray parameters(residual stress, half-value breadth) according to the depth of fatigue fractured surface were investigated. The depth of maximum plastic zone, $w_y$, were determined on the basis of the distribution of the half-value breadth for normalized SS41 steel and that of the residual stress for M.E.F. dual phase steel. $K_{max}$ could be estimated by the measurement of $w_y$.

  • As grouper aquaculture production intensifies worldwide, hybrids are increasingly produced to induce heterosis of traits such as rapid growth and strong environmental adaptability. In this study, we compared the morphological characteristics of a hybrid grouper to those of its parent species Epinephelus moara and E. lanceolatus. The coefficients of external and skeletal traits evaluated using soft X-rays did not differ significantly among groups; however, several patterns were detected among measured traits. The body depth (BD), length of caudal peduncle (LCP), and pre-anal fin length (PAL) of the hybrid were the same as those of E. moara, whereas the pre-pectoral fin length (PPL) and interorbital width (IOW) of the hybrid were the same as those of E. lanceolatus. Traits that did not differ significantly among the three groups included pre-dorsal fin length (PDL), pre-ventral fin length (PVL), length of anal fin (LAF), and length of dorsal fin (LDF), whereas the depth of caudal peduncle (DCP) and snout length (SNL) showed intermediate traits, and eye diameter (ED) was significantly smaller in the hybrid. Therefore, intermediate traits such as DCP and SNL and specific traits such as ED may be used as indices for hybrid classification.

  • It is well understood that concentrated forces applied in the plane of a beam or panel (such as a wall or slab) lead to splitting forces developing within a disturbed region forming beyond the bearing zone. In a linearly elastic material the length of the disturbed region is approximately equal to the depth of the member. In concrete structures, however, the length of the disturbed region is a function of the orthotropic properties of the concrete-steel composite. In the detailing of steel reinforcement within the disturbed regions two limit states must be satisfied; strength and serviceability (in this case the serviceability requirement being acceptable crack widths). If the design requires large redistribution of stresses, the member may perform poorly at service and/or overload. In this paper the results of a plane stress finite element investigation of concentrated loads on reinforced concrete panels are presented. Two cases are examined (i) panels loaded concentrically, and (ii) panels loaded eccentrically. The numerical investigation suggests that the bursting force distribution is substantially different from that calculated using elastic design methods currently used in some codes of practice. The optimum solution for a uniformly reinforced bursting region was found to be with the reinforcement distributed from approximately 0.2 times the effective depth of the member ($0.2D_e$) to between $1.2D_e$ and $1.6D_e$. Strut and tie models based on the finite element analyses are proposed herein.

  • Undercutting using an actuated disc cutter (ADC) involves more complex cutting mechanism than traditional rock cutting does, requiring the application of various new cutting parameters, such as eccentricity, cutter inclination angle, and axis rotational speed. This study presents cutting-edge laboratory-scale testing equipment that allows performing ADC tests. ADC tests were carried out on a concrete block with a specified strength of 20 MPa, using a variety of cutting settings that included penetration depth (p), eccentricity (e), and linear velocity (v). ADC, unlike pick and disc cutting, has a non-linear cutting path with a dynamic cutting direction, requiring the development of a new method for predicting cutting force and specific energy. The influence of cutting parameters to the cutter forces were discussed. The ratio of eccentricity to the penetration depth (e/p) was proposed to evaluate the optimal cutting condition. Specific energy varies with e/p ratio, and exhibits optimum values in particular cases. In general, actuated undercutting may potentially give a more efficient cutting than conventional pick and disc cutting by demonstrating reasonably lower specific energy in a comparable cutting environment.

  • This paper studied the spatial factors activating the personal interaction based on case studies of $M\'{e}diath\'{e}ques$ in France. The spatial factors are analyzed into material factors and dematerial factors. The material factors have physical features in space and directly or indirectly activate the personal interaction. They consist of 8 elements including pocket space, balcony, atrium, stairs, elevators, windows, conference rooms and furnitures. The dematerial factors consist of 6 elements including polycentrism, continuance, mixture, interpenetration, dematerialization, transparency. They are compounded of material factors and explain them conceptually. But dematerial factors are abstract concepts. To provide reliability I confirm the relationship with dematerial factors by using a connections, topology, a phased depth of the Depthmap as the framework of the visual recognition of the space syntax covering the characteristic of dematerial factors. The result of the quantitative analysis human-behavior in $V\'{e}nissieux$ $M\'{e}diath\'{e}que$ and the result of applying the spatial factors of $M\'{e}diath\'{e}ques$ as the community center to the $V\'{e}nissieux$ $M\'{e}diath\'{e}que$ proved that the spatial factors are significant factors of the $M\'{e}diath\'{e}ques$ as the community center.

  • In this work, analysis of biocompatible TiO2 oxide multilayer by the XPS depth profiling was researched. the manufacture of the TiO2 barrier-type multilayer was accurately performed in a mixed electrolyte containing HAp, Pd, and Ag nanoparticles. The temperature of the solution was kept at approximatively $32^{\circ}C$ and was regularly rotated by a magnetic stirring rod in order to increase the ionic diffusion rate. The manufactured specimens were carefully analyzed by XPS depth profile to investigate the result of chemical bonding behaviors. From the analysis of chemical states of the TiO2 oxide multilayer using XPS, the peaks are showed with the typical signal of Ti oxide at 459.1 eV and 464.8 eV, due to Ti 2p(3/2) and Ti 2p(1/2), respectively. The Pd-3d peak was split into Pd-3d(5/2) and Pd-3d(3/2)peaks, and shows two bands at 334.7 and 339.9 eV for Pd-3d3 and Pd-3d5, respectively. Also, the peaks of Ag-3d have been investigated. The chemical states consisted of the O-1s, P-2p, and Ti-2p were identified in the forms of PO42- and PO43-. Based on the results of the chemical states, the chemical elements into the TiO2 oxide multilayer were also inferred to be penetrated from the electrolyte during anodic process. The structure characterization of the modified surface were performed by using FE-SEM, and from the result of biological evaluation in simulated body fluid(SBF), the biocompatibility of TiO2 oxide multilayer was effective for bioactive property.

  • We studied the annual variation of water temperatures in the upper 200m off southeast coast of Korea by means of harmonic analysis of the temperatures at 10 standard depths of 51 stations. The distributions of the mean temperature in coastal zone are almost parallel to the coast, whereas those in offshore are almost zonal. With an increase of depth, the annual amplitude decreases nearly exponentially and the annual phase increases nearly linearly. The average e-folding depth for the annual amplitudes is 65m, vertical change of the annual phase is 180 per 200m, and the vertical eddy conductivity is $4\textrm{cm}^2/sec$. Annual variations of temperatures in the coastal zone of a few tens miles from the coast are considerably different from those in offshore area. The e-folding depths in coastal zone are shallower than those in offshore region, and the changes of phase with depths in coastal zone are smaller than those in offshore region.

  • Measuring the depth of water is very important in ensuring the protection and safety of seaside. There are many difficulties in making the contour bathymetric map, and contour line due to the limitation of continuous measurement of water depth and collimation with the conventional measuring and positioning methods. But the real-time kinematic GPS (RTK GPS) positioning using a carrier phase enables us to decide a precise position without breaking a signal even under the condition of a moving environment. It is also possible to obtain an accurate depth of water in real time with a fathometer through the measuring of time delay between sending and receiving epochs. This research aims at investigation of accuracy potential of RTK GPS in combination with Echo Sounder(E/S) for the coastal mapping. Apart from this purpose, the accuracy of ambiguity resolution with the OTF(On the Fly) method was tested with respect to the initialization time. The result shows that the accuracy is better than 1cm with 5-minute initialization in the distance of 10km baseline. The seaside topography was measured by the RTK GPS only, on the other hand the seafloor topography was surveyed in combination of RTK GPS and E/S. Comparing to the volume of seaside measured by RTK GPS and digital topographical map, the difference of only 2 % was achieved. This indicates that the coastal mapping with RTK GPS is successfully conducted. In addition it is also demonstrated that the 3-dimensional perspective model resulted from the undersea topography measured by RTK GPS and E/S is very close to that from the digital map. Through this study, it was verified that RTK GPS is to be very useful method in the analysis of coastal morphology owing to its capability of getting the precise DTM for the using of harbor reclamation, dredging, and the estimation of soil movement in a river.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the grade of WA vitrified and resinoid bond grinding wheels by the sue of AE measuring system. When the manufactured 48 kinds of specimens were scratched by the method of OKOSHI'S grade test, the relationship between the amount of bit scratch depth of grinding wheel specimens and the character- istics of AE signals, and the relationship of AE counts and grade were considered as fololws; (1) The higher the grades are AE cumlulative event counts N and AE event count rate n, the smaller the values tend to be. But A $E_{rms}$is in reverse. (2) In the case of same grade, the smaller the grain size is, the higher the value of AE cumulative event counts N and A $E_{rms}$is results of comparison and observation. The grinding wheel with lower elasticity and with higher percentage of pore detected higher value of AE cumula- tive event counts N than with higher elasticity and lower percentage of pore. But A $E_{rms}$ is in reverse. (3) AE cumulative event counts N and bit scratch depth h have normally one to one correspondence. (4) It can be expected that quantitative evaluations of grade by using AE have been carried out by the wave observation of AE signal in line with the relationship between load speed of bit and AE cumulative event counts N & AE event count rate n.' AE event count rate n.ate n.
