The electric traction systems are quite differ from general power systems which is single-phase and heavy load. Therefore, there are inevitably power quality problems such as steady state or transient voltage drop, voltage imbalance and harmonic distortion. Among these problems, since steady-state volatge drop is the one of most important factor in electric power quality, many researches about on the compensation of volatge drop by using SVC(Static Var Compensator) and/or STACOM(Static Compensator) have been studied and proposed Also, it is expected that transient voltage drop(voltage sag) could affect the control and safety of high speed traction load. In this paper, voltage sag compensation of AT(Auto Transformer) feeding system are studied The detailed transient models of utility source, scott transformer, AT, and traction load are estabilished. The application of DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer) in electric traction system is proposed to compensate the voltage sag of traction network which is occured by the fault of utility source. It can be shown that application of the DVR in electric traction system is very useful to compensate the volatge sag from the result of related simulation works.

The centrifuge and 1-g shaking table tests were performed simultaneously to compare the dynamic behaviors of loose sands of the same geotechnical properties. The prototype soils were 10 m thick liquefiable loose sands. The geometric scaling factors were 20 for 1-g and 40 for centrifuge tests. The excess pore pressure, surface settlement, and acceleration in the soil were measured at the same locations in the 1-g and centrifuge tests. The total excess pore pressure from development to dissipation was measured. In the centrifuge test, viscous fluid was used as the pore water to eliminate the time scaling difference between dynamic time and dissipation time. In the 1-g tests, the steady state concept was applied to determine the unit weight of the model soil, and two different time scaling factors were applied for the dynamic time and the dissipation time. It is concluded that the 1-g tests can simulate the excess pore pressure of the prototype soil if the permeability of the model soil is small enough to prevent dissipation of excess pore pressure during shaking and the dissipation time scaling factor is properly determined.

A hot forming process is required for Mg alloys to enhance the formability and plastic workability due to the insufficient formability at room temperature. Mg alloy undergoes dynamic recrystallization (DRX) during the hot working process, which is a restoration or softening mechanism that reduces the dislocation density and releases the accumulated energy to facilitate plastic deformation. The flow stress curve shows three stages of complicated strain hardening and softening phenomena. As the strain increases, the stress also increases due to work hardening, and it abruptly decreases work softening by dynamic recrystallization. It then maintains a steady-state region due to the equilibrium between the work hardening and softening. In this paper, an efficient optimization process is proposed for the material model of the dynamic recrystallization to improve the accuracy of the flow curve. A total of 18 variables of the constitutive equation of AZ80 alloy were systematically optimized at an elevated forming temperature($300^{\circ}C$) with various strain rates(0.001, 0.1, 1, 10/sec). The proposed method was validated by applying it to the constitutive equation of AZ61 alloy.

Roll drafting operation causes variations in the linear density of bundles because the bundle flow cannot be controlled completely by roll pairs. Defects occurring in this operation bring about many problems successively in the next processes. In this paper, we attempt to analyze the draft dynamics and the linear density irregularity based on the governing equation of a bundle motion that has been suggested in our previous studies. For analyzing the dynamic characteristics of the roll drafting operation, it is indispensable to investigate a transient state in time domain before the bundle flux reaches a steady state. However, since governing equations of bundle flow consisting of continuity and motion equations turn out to be nonlinear, and coupled between variables, the solutions for a transient state cannot be obtained by an analytical method. Therefore, we use the Finite Difference Method(FDM), particularly, the FTBS(Forward-Time Backward-Space) difference method. Then, the total equations system yields to an algebraic equations system and is solved under given initial and boundary conditions in an iterative fashion. From the simulation results, we confirm that state variables show different behavior in the transient state; e.g., the velocity distribution in the flow field changes more quickly the linear density distribution. During a transient flow in a drafting zone, the output irregularity is influenced differently by the disturbances, e.g., the variation in input bundle thickness, the drafting speed, and the draft ratio.

Four different buildings having various wall construction are analyzed for the effect of wall mass on the thermal performance and inside building air and wall temperature transient and also for calculating the energy consumption load. This analytical study was motivated by the experimental work of Burch et al. An analytical solution of one-dimensional, linear, partial differential equations is obtained using the Laplace transform method, Bromwich and modified Bromwich contour method. A simple dynamic model using steady state analysis as simplified methods is developed and results of energy consumption loads are compared with results obtained using the analytical solution. Typical Meteorological Year data are processed to yield hourly average monthly values. This study is conducted using weather data from two different locations in Korea: Daegu having severe weather in summer and winter and Jeju having mild weather almost all year round. There is a significant wall mass effect on the thermal performance of a building in mild weather condition. Buildings of heavyweight construction with insulation show the highest comfort level in mild weather condition. A proportional controller provides the higher comfort level in comparison with buildings using on-off controller. The steady state analysis gives an accurate estimate of energy load for all types of construction. Finally, it appears that both mass and wall insulation are important factors in the thermal performance of buildings, but their relative merits should be decided in each building by a strict analysis of the building layout, weather conditions and site condition.
Reactive distillation (RD) is a combination process where both separation and reaction are considered simultaneously in a single vessel. This kind of combination to enhance the overall performance is not a new attempt in the chemical engineering areas. The recovery of ammonia in the classic Solvay process for soda ash of the 1860s may be cited as probably the first commercial application of RD. The RD system has been used for a long time as a useful process and recently the importance of the RD is enlarged more and more. In addition to that, the application fields of RD are diversely diverged. To make the most of the characteristic of RD system, we must decide the best operating condition under which the process shows the most effective productivity and should decide the best control algorithm which satisfies an optimal operating condition. Phosgene which is a highly reactive chemical is used for the production of isocyanates and polycarbonates. Because it has high reactivity and toxicity, its utilization is increasingly burdened by growing safety measures to be adopted during its production. Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC) was proposed as a substitute of phosgene because it is non-toxic and environmentally benign chemical. In this study, RD is used for DMC production process and the transesterification is performed inside of column to produce DMC. In transesterification, the methanol and ethylene carbonate (EC) are used as the reactants. This process use homogeneous catalyst and the azeotrope exists between the reactant and product. Owing to azeotrope, we should use two distillation columns. For this DMC production process, we can suggest two configurations. One is EC excess process and the other is methanol excess process. From the comparison of steady state simulation results where the Naphtali-Sandholm algorithm is used, it showed the better performance to use the methanol excess process configuration than EC excess process. Then, the dynamic simulation was performed to be based on the steady state simulation results and the optimal control system was designed. In addition to that, the optimal operating condition was suggested from previous results.

This study aimed for the scientific approach of Korean traditional house, so called Hanok, by analyses of structural elements and thermal environmental performance. Hanok is a very unique vernacular architectural style of the Middle East Asia that fits with climate conditions of the Korean Peninsular, designed to withstand high temperature and humidity in summer and cold and dry in winter seasons. In order to evaluate thermal environment of Hanok, its sectional structure such as floor, wall, roof structure and Ondol which is Korean traditional floor heating system, was built in 3D, as well as heat transfer mechanism of its composing elements was analyzed through 3 dimensional steady state analysis. The results of the thermal environmental performance of Hanok will be used as a basic datum of design guidelines for accomplishing ecologic housing fitted with local climate.
The purposes of this study are to perform the management and monitoring of droughts for Mokpo area via the monthly Palmer index(PDSI), the data is obtained from the Mokpo meteorological station, and the used data are in the period of 1906 to 1999. Monthly Palmer index is classified into 7 stochastic classes and its dynamic change of monthly transition probability estimated by Markov chain is investigated. We also estimate the steady state probability of the classified PDSI. The 4th class shows the highest frequency of 49.6% out of 7 classes and the 7th class which is the most extreme drought show that a stochastic transition probability is more or less larger than an empirical one. Also, we found that the monthly steady state probability could be used for the forecasting of changing pattern of drought magnitude for the study area.

The effect of temperature on the fluorescence quenching of 2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-5-(1-naphthyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (MPNO1), 2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-5-(2-naphthyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazote(MPNO2), by aniline, and 2-Phenylindole (2-PI) by CCk, in toluene by steady state method and in benzene by time-resolved method have been carried out in the temperature range 30 - 70$\circ$C. The Stem-Volmer (S-V) plots, I$_0$/I against quencher concentration [Q] at different temperanares show positive deviations. The fluorescence lifetimes determined at different temperatures show no systematic variations and the variations being within the experimental error, the average values of lifetimes $ $\tau$ (t) are taken for further calculations. Rate constants such as Stem-Volmer quenching constants K$_sv}$, quenching rate parameters k$_q$ and k'$_q$, static quenching constant V and kinetic distance r are determined using the modified Stem-Volmer equation and sphere of action static quenching model. In order to see whether the reactions are diffusion limited, equations k$_q$ = e$^{-Eq/RT}$ and k'$_q$ = e$^{-Eq/RT}$ are used to determine the values of E$_q$ and E'$_q$, the activation energies for collisional quenching and the values of E$_q$ are 14.53. 17.28 and 16.20 kJ mole$^{-1}$ for MPNO1, MPNO2 and 2-PI respectively and the values of E'$_q$ are 14.62 and 17.73 for MPNO1 and MPNO2 respectively. From the magnitudes of various quantities it has been concluded that the reactions are diffusion limited and the observed positive deviations in the S-V plot are due to static and dynamic quenching.
A series of shaking table model tests were performed to verify the validity of similitude law, which is suggested by lai (1989) to simulate the dynamic behavior of soil-fluid-structure system for is shaking table tests. In the tests, the similitude law suggested by lai was applied to determine the length and the time scaling factors. Also, the steady state concept was used in determining the density of model backfill soil, which is a key factor in simulating the development of excess pore pressure during shaking. The similitude law was verified by checking whether three different sizes of quay walls show the identical behavior or not. The similar responses of acceleration, excess pore pressure and horizontal displacement of walls were obtained far the small and large models. However, the medium model showed larger responses than those of the small and large models because of the resonance between the frequency of input acceleration and the natural frequency of the wall system. In addition, the vertical displacement and rotational angle of the walls became larger with the increase of model size.
