A Model of Organizational Decision Process

  • The generalized goal decomposition model proposed by Ruefli as a single period decision model is presented for the purpose of a review and extended to make a multiple period planning model. The multiple period planning model in the three level organization is formulated with, linear goal deviations by introducing the goal programming method. Dynamic formulation using the generalized goal decomposition model for each single period problem is also presented. An iterative search algorithm is presented as an appropriate solution method of the dynamic formulation of the multiple period planning model.

  • Dynamic analysis is important in structural design of SCARA or articulated type industrial robots and is' usually done to main three axes. In this paper, robot arm dynamics was analyzed using FBD(free body diagram). Though the proposed scheme becomes complex as DOF(degree of freedom)increases, it allows to see types and directions of forces and moments acting on the body. Therefore, the strength analysis of robot arm can be done relatively easy in a case of either closed or open loop chain. This method can be used for obtaining dynamic simulation at off-line programming system and calculating required torques at joints at on-line system.

  • Finding the optimal solution in the river water quality management system is very hard with the non-linearity of the water quality model. Many suggested methods for that using the linear programming, non-linear programming and dynamic programming, are failed to give an optimal solution of sufficient accuracy and satisfaction. We studied a method to find a solution optimizing the river water quality management in the aspect of the efficiency and the cost of the waste water treatment facilities satisfying the water Quality goals. In the suggested method, we use the QUAL2E water quality model and the genetic algorithm. A brief result of the project to optimize the water quality management in the Youngsan river is presented.

  • Pictorial Structures is known as an effective method that recognizes and tracks human poses. In this paper, the upper body pose is also tracked by PS and a particle filter(PF). PF is one of dynamic programming methods. But Markov chain-based dynamic motion model which is used in dynamic programming methods such as PF, couldn't predict effectively the highly articulated upper body motions. Therefore PF often fails to track upper body pose. In this paper we propose the key pose-based proposal distribution for proper particle prediction based on the similarities between key poses and an upper body silhouette. In the experimental results we confirmed our 70.51% improved performance comparing with a conventional method.

  • In this paper, we have designed power system stabilizer (PSS) using object-oriented method. There are several types of power system stabilizer. A proportional-integral(PI) controller is very simple for practical implementation. Therefore it has been widely employed by the industry. The methods of obtaining the gains(Ki,Kp) of PI controller are root-locus method and sub-optimal regulator approach. But these methods are cannot be applicable to nonlinear system and faulted power system. So we proposed a new method which can be applied to nonlinear system by numerical analysis method. The method of dynamic system simulation by numerical method is very difficult and complex. We proposed flexible simultaion method for complex power system analysis using object-oriented programming(OOP) and applied to PI controller design.

  • This paper presents scheduling models for dispatching vehicles to accomplish a sequence of container jobs at the container terminal, in which the starting times as well as the order of vehicles for carrying out these jobs need to be determined. To deal with this scheduling problem, three mixed 0-1 integer programming models, Model 1, Model 2 and Model 3 are provided. We present interesting techniques to reformulate the two mixed integer programming models, Model 1 and Model 2, as pure 0-1 integer programming problems with simple constraint sets and present a lower bound for the optimal value of Model 1. Model 3 is a complicated mixed integer programming model because it involves a set of non-smooth constraints, but it can be proved that its solutions may be obtained by the so-called greedy algorithm. We present numerical results showing that Model 3 is the best among these three models and the greedy algorithm is capable of solving large scale problems.

  • In today's competitive environment, supply chain management is a major concern for a company. Two of the key issues in supply chain management are transportation and inventory management. To achieve significant savings, companies should integrate these two issues instead of treating them separately. In this paper we develop a framework for modeling stochastic programming in a supply chain that is subject to demand uncertainty. With reasonable assumptions, two stochastic programming models are presented, respectively, including a single-period and a multi-period situations. Our assumptions allow us to capture the stochastic nature of the problem and translate it into a deterministic model. And then, based on the genetic algorithm and stochastic simulation, a solution method is developed to solve the model. Finally, the computational results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and algorithm.

  • A numerical trajectory planning method for path-constrained trajectory planning is proposed which ensures collision-free and time-optimal motions for two robotic manipulators with limited actuator torques and velocities. For each robot, physical constraints of the robots such as limited torques or limited rotational velocities of the actuators are converted to the constraints on velocity and acceleration along the path, which is described by a scalar variable denoting the traveled distance from starting point. Collision region is determined on the coordination space according to the kinematic structures and the geometry of the paths of the robots. An Extended Coordination Space is then constructed` an element of the space determines the postures and the velocities of the robots, and all the constraints described before are transformed to some constraints on the behaviour of the coordination-velocity curves in the space. A dynamic programming technique is them provided with on the discretized Extended Coordination Space to derive a collision-free and time-optimal trajectory pair. Numerical example is included.

  • One of main concerns of operators of the Earth observation satellite is taking images as many as possible under the constraints of satellite resources during fixed period. In order to achieve this goal, satellite operators are strongly required to generate the optimized image collection plans, and it is a very time consuming process to achieve an optimized image collection plan when it is done by manual. This paper suggests automation of image collection planning based on the dynamic programming algorithm to reduce the time required for image collection planning. The validity of the proposed method is tested using operating satellite system and the result is given in this paper.

  • The purpose of power system maintenance is to prevent equipment failure. The maintenance strategy should be designed to balance costs and benefits because frequent maintenance increases cost while infrequent maintenance can also be costly due to electricity outages. This paper proposes maintenance modeling of a power distribution system using reliability centered maintenance (RCM). The proposed method includes comprehensive equipment modeling and impact analysis to evaluate the effect of equipment faults. The problem of finding the optimum maintenance strategy is formulated in terms of dynamic programming. The applied power system is based on the RBTS Bus 2 model, and the results demonstrate the potential for designing a maintenance strategy using the proposed model.
