  • Structural integrity of either a passenger car or a light truck is one of the basic requirements for a full vehicle engineering and development program. The results of the vehicle product performance are measured in terms of ride and handling, durability, noise/vibration/harshness(NVH), crashworthiness and occupant safety. The level of performance of a vehicle directly affects the marketability, profitability and, most importantly, the future of the automobile manufacturer. In this study, we used the virtual proving ground(VPG) approach for obtaining the dynamic characteristics. VPG approach uses a nonlinear, dynamic, finite element code(LS-DYNA3D) which expands the application boundary outside the classic linear, antic assumptions. VPG approach also uses realistic boundary conditions of tire/road surface interactions. To verify the predicted dynamic results, a single lane change test has been performed. The prediction results were compared with the experimental test results, and the feasibility of the integrated CAE analysis methodology was verified.

  • Fractional derivative models, which are used to describe the viscoelastic behavior of material, have received considerable attention. Thus it is necessary to put forward the analysis solutions of dynamic systems containing a fractional derivative. Although previously reported such kind of fractional calculus-based constitutive models, it only handles the particularity of rational number in part, has great limitation by reason of only handling with particular rational number field. Simultaneously, the former study has great unreliability by reason of using the complementary error function which can't ensure uniform real number. In this paper, a new approach is proposed for an analytical scheme for dynamic system of a spring-mass-damper system of single-degree of freedom under general forcing conditions, whose damping is described by a fractional derivative of the order $0<{\alpha}<1$ which can be both irrational number and rational number. The new approach combines the fractional Green's function and Laplace transform of fractional derivative. Analytical examples of dynamic system under general forcing conditions obtained by means of this approach verify the feasibility very well with much higher reliability and universality.

  • Convergence difficulty and available complete measurement information have been considered as two primary challenges for the identification of large-scale engineering structures. In this paper, a time domain substructural identification approach by combining a weighted adaptive iteration (WAI) algorithm and an extended Kalman filter method with a weighted global iteration (EFK-WGI) algorithm was proposed for simultaneous identification of physical parameters of concerned substructures and unknown external excitations applied on it with limited response measurements. In the proposed approach, according to the location of the unknown dynamic loadings and the partially available structural response measurements, part of structural parameters of the concerned substructure and the unknown loadings were first identified with the WAI approach. The remaining physical parameters of the concerned substructure were then determined by EFK-WGI basing on the previously identified loadings and substructural parameters. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed approach was demonstrated via a 20-story shear building structure and 23 degrees of freedom (DOFs) planar truss model with unknown external excitation and limited observations. Results show that the proposed approach is capable of satisfactorily identifying both the substructural parameters and unknown loading within limited iterations when both the excitation and dynamic response are partially unknown.

  • A semi-analytical numerical approach for the effective structural dynamic response analysis of spar floating substructure for offshore wind turbine subject to wave-induced excitation is introduced in this paper. The wave-induced rigid body motions at the center of mass are analytically solved using the dynamic equations of rigid ship motion. After that, the flexible structural dynamic responses of spar floating substructure for offshore wind turbine are numerically analyzed by letting the analytically derived rigid body motions be the external dynamic loading. Restricted to one-dimensional sinusoidal wave excitation at sea state 3, pitch and heave motions are considered. Through the numerical experiments, the time responses of heave and pitch motions are solved and the wave-induced dynamic displacement and effective stress of flexible floating substructure are investigated. The hydrodynamic interaction between wave and structure is modeled by means of added mass and wave damping, and its modeling accuracy is verified from the comparison of natural frequencies obtained by experiment with a 1/100 scale model.

  • The objectives of this work are to present the dynamic simulation strategy based on cluster-modular approach and to develop a prototype simulator. In addition, methods for the improvement of computational efficiency and applicability are studied. A process can be decomposed into several clusters which consist of strongly coupled units depending upon the process dynamics or topology. The combined approach of simultaneous and sequential simulation based on the cluster structure is implemented within the developed dynamic process simulator, MOSA(Multi Objective Simulation Architecture). Dynamic simulation for a utility plant is presented as a case study in order to prove the efficiency and flexibility of MOSA.

  • Empirical studies have shown that government and human service nonprofit organizations have maintained active partnerships to deliver human services for the past several decades. However, the previous researches on resource dependent government-nonprofit service delivery have revealed serious methodological limitations to adequately demonstrate the dynamic relationship between both sectors over time. Since the dynamics underlying the government-nonprofit service delivery is a complex process, in which multiple factors dynamically interact over time, the assumptions of system dynamics can help improve these methodological drawbacks. This study aims to explore methodological issues and weaknesses observed in empirical studies on resource dependent government-nonprofit service delivery in the United States, and further attempts to provide insights on future research toward a dynamic approach, bringing the assumptions of system dynamics to the challenges of the previous researches.

  • In this research, emergency vehicle dispatching problems faced with in the wake of massive natural disasters are considered. Here, the emergency vehicle dispatching problems can be regarded as a single machine stochastic scheduling problems, where the processing times are independently and identically distributed random variables, are considered. The objective of minimizing the expected number of tardy jobs, with distinct job due dates that are independently and arbitrarily distributed random variables, is dealt with. For these problems, optimal static-list policies can be found by solving corresponding assignment problems. However, for the special cases where due dates are exponentially distributed random variables, using a proposed dynamic programming approach is found to be relatively faster than solving the corresponding assignment problems. This so-called Pivot Dynamic Programming approach exploits necessary optimality conditions derived for ordering the jobs partially.

  • This paper presents a new dynamic approach for assessing feasibility associated with the implementation of accident management strategies by the operators. This approach includes the combined use of both the concept of reliability physics and a dynamic event tree generation scheme. The reliability physics is based on the concept of a comparison between two competing variables, i.e., the requirement and the achievement parameter, while the dynamic event tree generation scheme on the continuous generation of the possible event sequences at every branch point up to the desired solution. This approach is applied to a cavity flooding strategy in a reference plant, which is to supply water into the reactor cavity using emergency fire systems in the station blackout sequence. The MAAP code and Latin Hypercube sampling technique are used to determine the uncertainty of the requirement parameter. It has been demonstrated that this combined methodology may contribute to assessing the success likelihood of the operator actions required during accidents and therefore to developing the accident management procedures.

  • Analysis of the uncertainty to have engineering solution of gas-dynamic and hydrodynamic problems is based on the comparison the prospective engineering solution with experimental result. In this paper, the mathematical model to estimate heat flux along gas-dynamic channel wall and the solution sequence are shown. Statistical information and generalizing experimental characteristics about gas- and hydro-dynamic channels were applied to the mathematical model. As the results, it is possible to draw a conclusion that models of the integrated approach, using the averaged statistical data of generalizing characteristics for a turbulent flow, without consideration of the turbulent mechanism (characteristic pulsations), can predict a nominal operating regime for gas-dynamic and hydrodynamic systems. The probable deviation of operating regime for newly designed the gas-dynamic channel can achieve 20% from a regime predicted on a basis 1-D or 3-D modelling irrespective of a kind of used models.

  • In this paper the vibration and power flow analysis for the branched piping system conveying fluid are performed by wave approach. The uniform straight pipe element conveying fluid is formulated using the dynamic stiffness matrix by wave approach. The branched piping system conveying fluid can be easily formulated with considering of simple assumptions of displacements at the junction and continuity conditions of the pipe internal flow. The dynamic stiffness matrix for each uniform straight pipe element can be assembled by using the global assembly technique using in conventional finite element method. The computational method proposed in this paper can easily calculate the forced responses and power flow of the branched piping system conveying fluid regardless of finite element size and modal properties.
