The Effect of Gaps in Concrete Bearing Surface of Direct Fixation Track on Vehicle and Track Interaction (직결궤도 체결구 하부에 발생한 단차가 차량/궤도 상호작용에 미치는 영향)

  • Various installation faults may lie in fasteners in the construction of a direct-fixation track by the top-down method. At an extreme, they may cause excessive interaction between the train and track, compromise the running safety of the train, and cause damage to the track components. Therefore, the faults need to be kept within the allowable level through an investigation of their effects on the interactions between the train and track. In this study, the vertical dynamic stiffness of fasteners in installation faults was measured based on the dynamic stiffness test by means of an experimental apparatus that was devised to feasibly reproduce gap faults. This study proposes an effective analytical model for a train-track interaction system in which most elements, except the nonlinear wheel-rail contact and some components that behave bi-linearly, exhibit linear behavior. To investigate the effect of the behavior of fasteners in gap faults in a direct-fixation track on the vehicle and track, vehicle-track interaction analyses were carried out, targeting key review parameters such as the wheel load reduction factor, vertical rail displacement, rail bending stress, and mean stress of the elastomer. From the results, it was noted that the gap faults in the concrete bearing surface of a direct-fixation track need to be limited for the sake of the long-term durability of the elastomer than for the running safety of the train or the structural safety of the track.

Wheel tread defect detection for high-speed trains using FBG-based online monitoring techniques

  • The problem of wheel tread defects has become a major challenge for the health management of high-speed rail as a wheel defect with small radius deviation may suffice to give rise to severe damage on both the train bogie components and the track structure when a train runs at high speeds. It is thus highly desirable to detect the defects soon after their occurrences and then conduct wheel turning for the defective wheelsets. Online wheel condition monitoring using wheel impact load detector (WILD) can be an effective solution, since it can assess the wheel condition and detect potential defects during train passage. This study aims to develop an FBG-based track-side wheel condition monitoring method for the detection of wheel tread defects. The track-side sensing system uses two FBG strain gauge arrays mounted on the rail foot, measuring the dynamic strains of the paired rails excited by passing wheelsets. Each FBG array has a length of about 3 m, slightly longer than the wheel circumference to ensure a full coverage for the detection of any potential defect on the tread. A defect detection algorithm is developed for using the online-monitored rail responses to identify the potential wheel tread defects. This algorithm consists of three steps: 1) strain data pre-processing by using a data smoothing technique to remove the trends; 2) diagnosis of novel responses by outlier analysis for the normalized data; and 3) local defect identification by a refined analysis on the novel responses extracted in Step 2. To verify the proposed method, a field test was conducted using a test train incorporating defective wheels. The train ran at different speeds on an instrumented track with the purpose of wheel condition monitoring. By using the proposed method to process the monitoring data, all the defects were identified and the results agreed well with those from the static inspection of the wheelsets in the depot. A comparison is also drawn for the detection accuracy under different running speeds of the test train, and the results show that the proposed method can achieve a satisfactory accuracy in wheel defect detection when the train runs at a speed higher than 30 kph. Some minor defects with a depth of 0.05 mm~0.06 mm are also successfully detected.

The Impact Loads on the Hitch Point of the Tiller-Trailer System (동력경운기의 경사지 견인 및 주행 특성에 관한 연구(제일보)-동력경운기 -트레일계의 힛치점에 작용하는 충격력-)

  • Transporting agricultural products and the other material by the two-wheel-tractor (power-tiler)and trailer system may be one of its most widely used farming functions.The safety and hitching load for all the previaling performing conditions may be the general concern over the operation of the tiller-trailer system. In this study, a mathematical model to determine the static and dynamic forces excerting on the hitch point were developed . Based on the analysis of the model and the field measurements. the limiting hitching load and critical slope were analyzed. The results of the study are summarized as follows ; 1) The limit angle of slope land for the safety steering that two-wheel tractor-single axle trailer system was able to transport agricultural products was the direct angle (${\gamma}$) = 8 ; the cross angle$\beta$) 15 ; and it was decreased in accordance with the increase of carrying load ($W_4). 2) The critical velocity for safe operation in case of running on downward hill road was about 1.08m/sec. 3) The limiting carrying load for the safe steering was W$_4$=600kg. The degree of the safe steering for different braking methods was given in order as follows ; Simulataneous braking the tractor and trailer , braking the trailer only, and braking tractor only. 4) Among the three components of impact loads excerting on the hitch point, the component in the lateral direction ($P_{Vy}$) was near zero in spite of increase of hitching load ($W_4) , while the components in the other two mutually perpedicular directions ($P_{Vx}$ and ($P_{Vz}$) ) had larger values in horizontal plane than those in the slope lands. 5) Moment of forces on the lateral direction (M$y$) had the largest value among the three components of impact moment acting on the hitch point, however all the components were sharply increased in accordance with the increase of hitching loads ($W_4. Three components of the moment were the negative values.

  • Railroad track consists of relatively simple structures such as rail, sleeper, ballast. Roadbed shares vertical pressure by train load which passed through rail to ballast as base that supports the track. For evaluating stress and displacement of roadbed due to the railroad load is an important role on the track as a basic data for estimation of the durability and design of the roadbed thickness. GEOTRACK program applied multi-layered theory was developed for analyzing railroad track structure. GEOTRACK program is a sort of numerical analysis program which has advantage that can analysis component of track by simple method. In this study, this program was used to preform the numerical analysis by changing track conditions and roadbed conditions such as tie, reinforced roadbed, dynamic wheel load, Resilient modulus and so on.   • Train runs on high speed and the concrete track is constructed. Rail fastening device needs to reduce elasticity, transferred load, noise, and vibration etc. Consequently, low elastic pad has a great impact of the durability and stability of the track. In this study, discussed in previous studies, static numerical analysis and real scale repeated loading test, followed by dynamic response analysis were implemented. The most distinctive characteristics of the model proposed is to simulate the real wheel behavior on rail. And the main analysis object is to evaluate and compare the deformation characteristics of the transition track while load reduction effect of transfer on roadbed assessed by various low elastic pad.

Performance Improvement of Centralized Dynamic Load-Balancing Method by Using Network Based Parallel Genetic Algorithm (네트워크기반 병렬 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 중앙집중형 동적부하균등기법의 성능향상)

  • In this paper, the centralized dynamic load-balancing was processed effectively by using the network based parallel genetic algorithm. Unlike the existing method using genetic algorithm, the performance of central scheduler was improved by distributing the process for the searching of the optimal task assignment to clients. A roulette wheel selection and an elite preservation strategy were used as selection operation to improve the convergence speed of optimal solution. A chromosome was encoded by using sliding window method. And a cyclic crossover was used as crossover operation. By the result of simulation for the performance estimation of central scheduler according to the change of flexibility of load-balancing method, it was verified that the performance is improved in the proposed method.

  • LRT(Light Railway Train), which is a intermediate system of train and bus, is arose for the solution of subway construction cost and the transportation capacity of bus. LRT was introduced in 1980's. About 30 local governments are plan to introduce LRT or constructing LRT, at present. AGT(Automated Guide-way Transit) system, which is a kind of LRT, is operated without driver. Rubber wheeled AGT system can reduce the noise and vibration compare to steel wheeled AGT, so it is estimated as ideal transportation system for urban area. And live loads at bridge are classified as the static load of vehicle and the dynamic wheel contact load which is occurred from the interaction of bridge and vehicle vibration, and the surface roughness. In the case of AGT system, the dynamic increment factor of bridge is greater than the normal train bridge and roadway bridge, because, the weight of AGT vehicle is more light that the train of truck. The exact method for dynamic increment factor is experiment. But this method is needed much money and time, moreover, this method cannot be adopted in design. Therefore, a simulation program for the interaction of AGT bridge, vehicle and surface roughness was developed, in this study. And the program was verified by experiment. As a result, the accuracy of the simulation program can be verified.

  • This paper deals with the kinematic and dynamic modeling of a 3 degree-of-freedom redundantly actuated mobile robot for the purpose of analysis and control. Each wheel is driven by two motors for steering and driving. Therefore, the system becomes force-redundant since the number of input variable is greater than the number of output variable. The kinematic and dynamic models in terms of three independent joint variables are derived. Also, a load distribution method to determine the input loads is introduced. Finally we demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed algorithms through simulation.

A Study of A Nonlinear Viscoelastic Model for Elastomeric Bushing in Radial Mode (일래스토메릭 부싱의 반경방향모드 비선형 점탄성 모델연구)

  • An elastomeric bushing is a device used in automotive suspension systems to reduce the load transmitted from the wheel to the frame of the vehicle. A bushing is an elastomeric hollow cylinder which is bonded to a solid steel shaft at its inner surface and a steel sleeve at its outer surface. The relation between the load applied to the shaft or sleeve and the relative deformation of elastomeric bushing is nonlinear and exhibits features of viscoelasticity. A load-displacement relation for elastomeric bushing is important for dynamic numerical simulations. A boundary value problem for the bushing response leads to the load-displacement relation which requires complex calculations. Therefore, by modifying the constitutive equation fur a nonlinear viscoelastic incompressible material developed by Lianis, the data fur the elastomeric bushing material was obtained and this data was used to derive the new load-displacement relation for radial response of the bushing. After the load relaxation function for the bushing is obtained from the step displacement control test, Pipkin-Rogers model was developed, Solutions were allowed fur comparison between the results of Modified Lianis model and those of the proposed model. It is shown that the proposed Pipkin-Rogers model is in very good agreement with Modified Lianis model.
