  • Poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate), PEN, is a relatively well-known polymer used for engineering purposes. Naphthalene ring provides rigidity to the polymer backbone, thus, it elevated the glass transition temperature and enhanced mechanical properties. The structure and properties of PEN affect a processing conditions severely, and the high-thermal stability have been had a poor thermal processibility. Hence, the basic mechanism of solvent drawing, is very much the same as that of thermal drawing from glassy state since both involve the inducement of segmental mobility. The former achieves the goal by use of chemical energy, and the latter does so by use of thermal energy. Generally, the sorption of the solvent by the polymer has a plasticizing effect, and leads to a lowering of the glass transition temperature, $T_g$. In this paper, the dynamic viscoelasticity behavior in liquid-drawing process of an unoriented amorphous PEN films were investigated using Rheovibron. The results are as follows : (1) For the drawing in silicone oil, the drawing below $T_g$. had $\alpha{2}$-dispersion due to an inhomogeneous taut structure. (2) For the drawing in water, the inhomogeneous taut structure reduced by the effect of plasticization even below $T_g$. (3) For the drawing in butanol, the only aliphatic segment in PEN have some molecular mobility but the mobility of the aromatic segment having naphthalene ring is nearly impossible. (4) For the drawing in dioxane/water mixing solvent, the solvent effect is complementary each other and accordingly the entire molecular conformation have stable state. (5) For the drawing in dioxane/butanol mixing solvent, the inhomogeneity of the taut structure and the aromatic segment increase with increasing the temperature and this tendencies correspond with that of the draw ratio.

통일(統一)벼의 탈립(脱粒)에 관(關)한 역학적(力學的) 분석(分析) (Dynamic Analysis of Shattering of Tongil Paddy)

  • This study was intended to analyze the dynamic force system which induced the shattering of paddy grains. A model to predict the shattering of paddy grains was developed, and physical quantities, such as mass distribution and rigidity of rice plant, needed for evaluating the minimum shattering forces were also measured. Under the assumption that rice plant right before harvesting is a vibratory system, the mathematical model of the vibratory system was developed and solved with the varied conditions of forcing functions. The results of the study were summarized as follows: 1. The shattering of grain occurred at the abscission layer of grain by the bending moments resulted from the impact force due to the collision of panicles of rice plant. 2. The vibratory model developed for milyang 23 rice variety was analyzed to give the natural frequencies of 7-9 Hz, which were closely related with the excitation frequencies of 4-10 Hz caused by various machine parts besides engine. Thus, avoiding the resonance should be taken into consideration in the design of the harvesting machinery. 3. It was analyzed to predict the lowest frequency that could develop the shattering when the excitation force was applied to the lower end of stem. The lowest frequency for the Milyang 23 rice variety ranged from 8.33 Hz to 11.66 Hz as the amplitude varied from 1 cm to 2.5 cm. 4. The degree of shattering depended upon the magnitude of the impact force and its application point. For Milyang 23 rice variety, the minimum impact force developing the shattering was $5g_f$ when it was applied at 1 cm above the lower end of stern and $1g_f$ when applied at 5 cm above the lower end of stem. 5. The minimum colliding velocity of the panicle, when it was on the ground that would just develop the shattering, was given as follows, $$V=\sqrt{\frac{K_t}{m_g}{\cdot}{{\phi}^2}}$$ where V : The colliding velocity of the panicle against ground to cause the shatteering of rice grain. (cm/sec) $K_t$ : The minimum spring constant for bending at the abscission layer of grain. (dyne-cm/rad) ${\phi}$ : The minimum shattering angle of grain (rad) $m_g$ : The maximum mass of grain. A Study on Three-dimensional Effects and Deformation of Textile Fabrics: Dynamic Deformations of Silk Fabrics

  • Recent trends toward the collaborations among various sectors of academia and research areas have brought interests and significances in new activities especially in the fashion and textile areas. One of the collaboration examples is the recent research projects on 3D virtual clothing systems based on the 3D CAD software. The 3D virtual clothing systems provide simulated apparels with high degrees of fidelity in terms of color, texture, and structural details. However, since real fabrics exhibit strong nonlinearity, anisotropy, viscoelasticity, and hysteresis, the 3D virtual clothing systems need fine tuning parameters for the simulation process. In this study, characteristics of silk fabrics, which are woven by using degummed silk and raw silk yarns, are being analyzed and compared. Anisotropic properties may be measured as warp and filling direction properties separately in woven fabrics, such as warp tensile stress or filling bending rigidity. Hysteretic properties may be measured as bending hysteresis or shear hysteresis by using KES measurements. These data provide deformation-force relationships of the fabric specimen. Three-dimensional effects obtained when using these characteristic fabrics are also analyzed. The methods to control the three-dimensional appearance of the sewn fabric specimens when utilizing a programmable microprocessor-based motor device, as prepared in this study, are presented. Based on the physical and mechanical properties measured when using the KES equipment, the property parameters are being into a 3-dimensional virtual digital clothing system, in order to generate a virtual clothing product based on the measured silk fabric properties.

아크릴산 함량 및 무기물 충전제가 UV 경화형 아크릴 점착테이프의 물성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Acrylic Acid Contents and Inorganic Fillers on Physical Properties of Acrylic Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Tape by UV Curing)

  • 아크릴 점착테이프는 자동차, 전기전자 및 디스플레이 모듈 접합에 사용된다. 본 연구는 이러한 모듈 접합에 사용되는 고강도 준구조형 점착테이프 제조를 위해 2-ethylhexylacrylate(2-EHA)와 acrylic acid(AAC)를 사용하여 UV 조사에 의한 광중합 및 점착테이프 제조를 위해 광경화를 진행하였고, AAC의 함량 및 무기물 충전제 $SiO_2$ 함량에 따라 아크릴 점착테이프의 물성에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 공단량체로 사용된 AAC의 함량이 많을수록 아크릴고분자 사슬의 강직성이 증가하여 초기 점착력이 낮았고, 시간경과에 따라 점착력이 증가하였으며 테이프의 젖음성, 접촉각 및 SEM 이미지를 통해 확인할 수 있었다. 충전제를 첨가하지 않은 점착테이프의 박리강도와 전단접착강도는 반비례 관계였으나 충전제를 첨가하면 함량 증가에 따라 박리강도 증가와 함께 전단접착강도가 증가하는 비례관계를 보였다. 이러한 상관관계로부터 고강도 준구조형 접착물성을 필요로 하는 용도에 최적화된 아크릴 점착테이프를 제시할 수 있었다.

숭례문 사례를 통한 육축 문화재의 구조특성 연구 (A Study on Structural Characteristics of Stone Masonry Wall Structure)

  • 우리나라의 석조문화재을 모델링할 때 불연속면을 갖는 구조재의 강성을 어떻게 규명하느냐가 매우 중요하지만 원형보존을 해야 하는 문화재의 특성상 이를 파악하기란 매우 곤란하다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 비파괴조사를 이용하여 고유진동수를 측정한 후, 시행착오법을 이용하여 측정된 고유진동수와 컴퓨터 모델링 해석을 통해 고유진동수를 비교함으로써 불연속면의 강성, 구조재의 탄성계수 등 숭례문 육축 구조를 이루는 재료의 구조적 물성을 추정하였다. 이를 통해 육축 문화재에 대한 컴퓨터 모델링 기법을 제시하고 육축구조물의 안전성에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 연구결과 적심석의 강성이 육축구조물의 안전성에 가장 큰 영향을 미지는 젓으로 분석되었다.

Investigation on the dynamic response of porous FGM beams resting on variable foundation using a new higher order shear deformation theory

  • In this work, the dynamic response of functionally graded beams on variable elastic foundations is studied using a novel higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). Unlike the conventional HSDT, the present one has a new displacement field which introduces undetermined integral variables. The FG beams were assumed to be supported on Winkler-Pasternak type foundations in which the Winkler modulus is supposed to be variable in the length of the beam. The variable rigidity of the elastic foundation is assumed to be linear, parabolic and sinusoidal along the length of the beam. The material properties of the FG porous beam vary according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction of the constituents. The equations of motion are determined using the virtual working principle. For the analytical solution, Navier method is used to solve the governing equations for simply supported porous FG beams. Numerical results of the present theory for the free vibration of FG beams resting on elastic foundations are presented and compared to existing solutions in the literature. A parametric study will be detailed to investigate the effects of several parameters such as gradient index, thickness ratio, porosity factor and foundation parameters on the frequency response of porous FG beams.

자동차 현가장치 부품에 대한 신뢰성 기반 최적설계에 관한 연구 (A Study for the Reliability Based Design Optimization of the Automobile Suspension Part)

  • The automobile suspension system is composed of parts that affect performances of a vehicle such as ride quality, handling characteristics, straight performance and steering effort, etc. Moreover, by using the finite element analysis the cost for the initial design step can be decreased. In the design of a suspension system, usually system vibration and structural rigidity must be considered simultaneously to satisfy dynamic and static requirements simultaneously. In this paper, we consider the weight reduction and the increase of the first eigen-frequency of a suspension part, the upper control arm, especially using topology optimization and size optimization. Firstly, we obtain the initial design to maximize the first eigen-frequency using topology optimization. Then, we apply the multi-objective parameter optimization method to satisfy both the weight reduction and the increase of the first eigen-frequency. The design variables are varying during the optimization process for the multi-objective. Therefore, we can obtain the deterministic values of the design variables not only to satisfy the terms of variation limits but also to optimize the two design objectives at the same time. Finally, we have executed reliability based optimal design on the upper control arm using the Monte-Carlo method with importance sampling method for the optimal design result with 98% reliability.

내충격성 향상 및 경량화를 위한 하이브리드 복합재료 스트럿 타워 설계 (The Design of a Hybrid Composite Strut Tower for Improving Impact Resistance and Light-weight)

  • 본 연구에서는 자동차가 불규칙한 노면을 주행 시 받게 되는 충격으로 인하여 마운트 상단에 발생하는 영구변형을 방지하고자 하이브리드 복합재료를 사용한 스트럿 타워를 설계하였다. 타이어와 현가장치에서 흡수 가능한 에너지량을 초과하였을 시 잔류 충격은 마운트로 전이되며, 특히 고속주행성능을 향상시키기 위하여 강직한 현가장치를 도입한 경우, 에너지 흡수량 저하로 인하여 기존의 스트럿 타워가 쉽게 변형될 수 있다. 유한요소해석을 통하여 압연강판과 탄소섬유 복합재료로 이루어진 하이브리드 복합재료 스트럿 타워의 최적설계를 진행하였으며, 낙하충격시험을 실시하여 동적 거동을 연구하였다. 또한 3차원 형상측정과 초음파 비파괴 검사방법을 이용하여 스트럿 타워의 손상 유무를 확인하였다.

A numerical investigation of seismic performance of large span single-layer latticed domes with semi-rigid joints

  • It is still inadequate for investigating the highly nonlinear and complex mechanical behaviors of single-layer latticed domes by only performing a force-based demand-capacity analysis. The energy-based balance method has been largely accepted for assessing the seismic performance of a structure in recent years. The various factors, such as span-to-rise ratio, joint rigidity and damping model, have a remarkable effect on the load-carrying capacity of a single-layer latticed dome. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the maximum load-carrying capacity of a dome under extreme loading conditions. In this paper, a mechanical model for members of the semi-rigidly jointed single-layer latticed domes, which combines fiber section model with semi-rigid connections, is proposed. The static load-carrying capacity and seismic performance on the single-layer latticed domes are evaluated by means of the mechanical model. In these analyses, different geometric parameters, joint rigidities and roof loads are discussed. The buckling behaviors of members and damage distribution of the structure are presented in detail. The sensitivity of dynamic demand parameters of the structures subjected to strong earthquakes to the damping is analyzed. The results are helpful to have a better understanding of the seismic performance of the single-layer latticed domes.

랜덤가진시험을 이용한 대형 크랭크샤프트 가공용 복합다기능 선반의 강성 평가 (Stiffness Evaluation of a Heavy-Duty Multi-Tasking Lathe for Large Size Crankshaft Using Random Excitation Test)

  • Machine tool vibration is well known for reducing machining accuracy. Because vibration response of a linear structure generally depends on its transfer function if the magnitude of excitation were kept constant, this study introduces a RET(Random Excitation Test) based on FRF method to evaluate stiffness of a prototype HDMTL(Heavy-Duty Multi-Tasking Lathe) for large crankshaft of marine engine. Firstly, two force loops of the lathe and corresponding structural loops were identified:1) workpiece - spindle - head stock - main bed, 2) workpiece - tool post - carriage bed. Secondly, compliances of each structural loop were measured respectively using RET with a hydraulic exciter and then converted into stiffness. Finally, the measured stiffness was compared with that obtained previously by FEM analysis. As the result, both measured and computed stiffness were closely in agreement with each other. And the prototype HDMTL has evidently sufficient rigidity above ordinary heavy-duty lathes.
