The compressive stress-strain response of Low Density Polyurethane foam material is modeled using the finite element method. A constitutive equation which include experimental constants based on quasi-static and dynamic uniaxial compression test is proposed. Impact test with different impactor masses and velocities are performed to verify the proposed model. The comparison between impact test and finite element analysis shows good agreements.

This study investigated the characteristics of heavy-weight floor impact sounds of box-frame type structure using 1:10 scale model. Ten types of floor structures(bare slabs and floating floors) were evaluated in terms of dynamic stiffness and loss factor. Floor vibrations and radiated sounds generated by simulated impact source were also measured. The results showed that the bakelite was appropriate for simulating concrete slab in the 1:10 scale model, and surface velocity and sound pressure level of concrete slab measured from the scale model showed similar tendencies with the results from in-situ in frequency domain. It was also found that dynamic behaviors of layered floor structures in the 1:10 scale model were similar to those in a real scale. Therefore, the use of 1:10 scale model would be useful for evaluating the heavy-weight floor impact sound insulation of layered floor structures when the frequency-dependent dynamic properties of each material are known.

INCONEL 718, nickel based superalloy, has good formability, high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties at high temperature. Owing to theses attractive properties, it finds use in applications such as combustion system, turbine engines and nuclear reactors. In such applications, components are typically required to be tolerant of high stress impact loading. This may cause material degradation and lead to catastrophic failure during service operation. In order to design optimal structural parts made of INCONEL 718, accurate understanding of material's mechanical properties, dynamic behavior and fracture characteristic as a function of strain rates are required. This paper concerned with the dynamic material properties of the INCONEL 718 for the various strain rates. The dynamic response of the INCONEL 718 at intermediate strain rate is obtained from the high speed tensile test machine test and at the high strain rate is from the split Hopkinson pressure bar test. Based on the experimental results, the effects of strain rate on dynamic flow stress, work hardening characteristics, strain rate sensitivity and elongation to the failure are evaluated. Experimental results from both quasi-static and high strain rate up to the 5000/sec are interpolated in order to construct the Johnson-Cook model as the constitutive relation that should be applied to simulate and design the structural parts made of INCONEL 718.
This paper proposes a novel time-domain homogenization model combining the viscoelastic constitutive law with Eshelby's inclusion theory-based micromechanics model to predict the mechanical behavior of the particle reinforced composite material. The proposed model is intuitive and straightforward capable of predicting composites' viscoelastic behavior in the time domain. The isotropization technique for non-uniform stress-strain fields and incremental Mori-Tanaka schemes for high volume fraction are adopted in this study. Effects of the imperfectly bonded interphase layer on the viscoelastic behavior on the dynamic mechanical behavior are also investigated. The proposed model is verified by the direct numerical simulation and DMA (dynamic mechanical analysis) experimental results. The proposed model is useful for multiscale analysis of viscoelastic composite materials, and it can also be extended to predict the nonlinear viscoelastic response of composite materials.
In this work, the bending and dynamic behaviors of advanced composite plates resting on variable visco-Pasternak foundations are studied using a simple shear deformation integral plate model. The research is carried out with a view to a three-parameter foundation including the influences of the variable Winkler coefficient, the constant Pasternak coefficient and the damping coefficient of the elastic medium. The present theory uses a displacement field with integral terms instead of derivative terms by including also the shear deformation effect without introducing the shear correction factors. The equations of motion for advanced composite plates are obtained using the Hamilton principle. Analytical solutions for the bending and dynamic analysis are deduced for simply supported plates resting on variable visco-Pasternak foundations. Some numerical results are presented to demonstrate the impact of material index, elastic foundation type, and damping coefficient of the foundation, on the bending and dynamic responses of advanced composite plates.

A hot forming process is required for Mg alloys to enhance the formability and plastic workability due to the insufficient formability at room temperature. Mg alloy undergoes dynamic recrystallization (DRX) during the hot working process, which is a restoration or softening mechanism that reduces the dislocation density and releases the accumulated energy to facilitate plastic deformation. The flow stress curve shows three stages of complicated strain hardening and softening phenomena. As the strain increases, the stress also increases due to work hardening, and it abruptly decreases work softening by dynamic recrystallization. It then maintains a steady-state region due to the equilibrium between the work hardening and softening. In this paper, an efficient optimization process is proposed for the material model of the dynamic recrystallization to improve the accuracy of the flow curve. A total of 18 variables of the constitutive equation of AZ80 alloy were systematically optimized at an elevated forming temperature($300^{\circ}C$) with various strain rates(0.001, 0.1, 1, 10/sec). The proposed method was validated by applying it to the constitutive equation of AZ61 alloy.
As a brittle and heterogeneous material, concrete behaves differently under different stress conditions and its bulk strength is loading rate dependent. To a large extent, the varying behavioural properties of concrete can be explained by the mechanical failure processes at a mesoscopic level. The development of a computational mesoscale model in a general finite element environment, as presented in the preceding companion paper (Part 1), makes it possible to investigate into the underlying mechanisms governing the bulk-scale behaviour of concrete under a variety of loading conditions and to characterise the variation in quantitative terms. In this paper, we first present a series of parametric studies on the behaviour of concrete material under quasi-static compression and tension conditions. The loading-face friction effect, the possible influences of the non-homogeneity within the mortar and ITZ phases, and the effect of randomness of coarse aggregates are examined. The mesoscale model is then applied to analyze the dynamic behaviour of concrete under high rate loading conditions. The potential contribution of the mesoscopic heterogeneity towards the generally recognized rate enhancement of the material compressive strength is discussed.
This paper is concerned with the energy absorption efficiency of auto-body side structures for the conventional steel and 60TRIP high strength steel. In order to evaluate the energy absorption efficiency, the dynamic crash analysis is carried out with the regulation of US-SINCAP. The analysis adopts the Johnson-Cook model for the dynamic material properties, which have been obtained from dynamic material tests. For the sake of the dynamic material properties, the analysis has been accurately peformed for the crashworthiness assesment. The analysis result provides deformed shapes, amounts of penetration and accelerations at several important points during crash. The result confirms that 60TRIP greatly improves the crashworthiness of the side members without sacrificing the weight and thus can be used for the light-weight design of an auto-body.
This paper presents the numerical simulation of the rigid 12.6 mm diameter kinetic energy ogive-nosed projectile impact on plain and fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) targets with compressive strengths from 45 to 235 MPa, using a three-dimensional finite element code LS-DYNA. A combined dynamic constitutive model, describing the compressive and tensile damage of concrete, is implemented. A modified Johnson_Holmquist_Cook (MJHC) constitutive relationship and damage model are incorporated to simulate the concrete behavior under compression. A tensile damage model is added to the MJHC model to analyze the dynamic fracture behavior of concrete in tension, due to blast loading. As a consequence, the impact damage in targets made of plain and fiber reinforced concrete with same matrix material under same impact velocities (650 m/s) are obtained. Moreover, the damage distribution of concrete after penetration is procured to compare with the experimental results. Numerical simulations provide a reasonable prediction on concrete damage in both compression and tension.

We obtain the mathematical model of the hard disk drive actuator system from the system response data of the finite element analysis or experimental results. System response data including the dynamics of the considered system are expressed as the mathematical model. It allows the dynamic analysis of the actuator system without resort to the repetitive finite element modeling work. Even though the dynamic characteristics of the system are affected somewhat by the structural modification and the change of the dynamic properties, we can use the modified size and material properties of the actuator system in the mathematical model to some extent. In this study, we express the mathematical model of the simplified rectangular plate first and then proceed to the actual hard disk drive actuator system.
