A Second-order Harmonic Current Reduction with a Fast Dynamic Response for a Two-stage Single-phase Grid-connected Inverter

  • In a single-phase grid-connected power system consisting of a DC/DC converter and a DC/AC converter, the current drawn from renewable energy sources has a tendency to be pulsated and contains second-order frequency ripple components, which results in several drawback such as a power harvesting loss and a shortening of the energy source's life. This paper presents a new second-order harmonic current reduction scheme with a fast dc-link voltage loop for two-stage dc-dc-ac grid connected systems. In the frequency domain, an adequate control design is performed based on the small signal transfer function of a two-stage dc-dc-ac converter. To verify the effectiveness of proposed control algorithm, a 1 kW hardware prototype has been built and experimental results are presented.

  • This paper describes a feasibility analysis result of STATCOM application for the Jeiu-Haenam HVDC system. The Jeju-Haenam HVDC system is one of the typical HVDC system interconnected with the low short-circuit-ratio AC system, which is vulnerable to the commutation failure due to the AC voltage variation. STATCOM has been considered as an effective reactive-power compensator to increase short-circuit-ratio of the interconnected AC system. In this study, a simulation model of Jeju-Haenam HVDC system with STATCOM was developed using PSCAD/EMTDC. The developed simulation model was utilized to analyze the dynamic performance analysis of Jeju-Haenam HVDC system with STATCOM. The analysis results show that STATCOM can improve the dynamic performance of Jeju-Haenam HVDC system, such as load-change recovery performance and fault recovery performance.

A Voltage and Frequency Controller for Stand Alone Pico Hydro Generation

  • This paper deals with a voltage and frequency (VF) controller for an isolated power generation system based on an asynchronous generator (AG) driven by a pico hydro turbine. The proposed controller is a combination of a static compensator (STATCOM) and an electronic load controller (ELC) for decoupled control of the reactive and active powers of the AG system to control the voltage and frequency respectively. The proposed generating system along with its VF controller is modeled in MATLAB using SIMULINK and PSB (Power System Block Sets) toolboxes. The performance of the controller is verified for the proposed system and feeding various types of consumer load such as linear/non-linear, balanced/unbalanced and dynamic loads.

  • Recently Advanced Static Var Compensators(ASVC) or STATic Synchronous COMpesator(STATCOM) has been considered as a next generation reactive power controller. The STATCOM is a voltage source inverter(VSI) based on the static VAr compensator with only small capacitors on the dc side. The main function of the STATCOM is to keep the bus voltage magnitude at the desired value. This paper compared the PAM STATCOM with the PWM STATCOM. The characteristics and the control method of each model is analyzed. And the simulation of STATCOMs based on the above two methods is presented.

  • The swing motion of the spreader during and after movement causes an efficiency problem of position control in unmaned gantry crane. The objective of this research is to design implementable stabilizing controllers that minimize the swing motion of spreader in precise position control. The dynamic equations related to trolley, rope, and spreader are derived. For constitute a similar actual system, we introduced a conception of spring and damper in the connector. It is located between the trolley and link that is used in stead of rope. We derived dynamic equation by appliance that friction and external disturbance are occurred to the connector. We constituted of position servo system and velocity servo system for the control of position and velocity of the trolley and constituted of lag compensator system for the control of sway of the spreader. And we will show an effect of the proposed system in this research finally.

  • The implementation of Static Var Compensator(SVC) provides opportunites to maintain voltage profile and improve voltage stability in large scale power system. Under Load Tap Changing(ULTC) transformer has been used to control the voltage. It is necessary that Coordinated control of SVC and ULTC for the better performance. This paper shows that the characteristic of Voltage control using SVC or ULTC and the condition of the coordinated control considering dynamic voltage stability.

Z-소스 교류 컨버터 토폴로지의 동적 전압 보상기 (Dynamic Voltage Restorer(DVR) with a Z-Source AC Converter Topology)

  • This paper proposes a new type of voltage sag-swell compensator based on a Z-source AC-AC converter. The proposed topology employs a pulse width modulation (PWM) Z-source AC-AC converter along with a injection transformer. A safe commutation strategy is used to eliminate voltage spikes on switches without snubber circuit. During a voltage sag or swell, the proposed system controls the adding or missing voltage and maintains the rated voltage of sinusoidal waveform at the terminals of the critical loads. The proposed system is able to compensate 20[%] voltage swell and is also able to compensate 60[%] voltage sag. In order to control and detect the voltage sag and swell, the peak voltage detection method is applied. Also, the operating principles of the proposed system are described, and a circuit analysis is provided. Finally, PSIM simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the proposed concept and theoretical analysis.

가설 트롤리선의 위치 / 장력 혼합제어 (Hybrid Control of Position/Tension for a Stringing Troy Wire)

  • As a stringing troy wire is installed by manual operation, it is necessary to scheme the automatic system for stringing troy wire. To accomplish a task of this kind, in this paper an approach to designing controllers for the hybrid Position/Tension control of a stringing troy wire is presented. Position control system is designed based on equation of dc motor and motion equation of robot, it is controlled by feedback with a detected speed dc motor. Tension control system is designed based on equation of ac servomotor for generating torque and dynamic equation of a troy wire, it is controled by feedback with a detected tension. The control parameters is determined by simulation in independence operation of each system. To suppress a mutual interference that the disturbance occur in operating of two task at same time. Dynamic hybrid control is proposed by feed forward compensator with a disturbance accelerator and a step torque at start. The operation of proposed system is simulated and experimented, results is verified the utilities.

Research on Mechanical Shim Application with Compensated Prompt γ Current of Vanadium Detectors

  • Mechanical shim is an advanced technology for reactor power and axial offset control with control rod assemblies. To address the adverse accuracy impact on the ex-core power range neutron flux measurements-based axial offset control resulting from the variable positions of control rod assemblies, the lead-lag-compensated in-core self-powered vanadium detector signals are utilized. The prompt ${\gamma}$ current of self-powered detector is ignored normally due to its weakness compared with the delayed ${\beta}$ current, although it promptly reflects the flux change of the core. Based on the features of the prompt ${\gamma}$ current, a method for configuration of the lead-lag dynamic compensator is proposed. The simulations indicate that the method can improve dynamic response significantly with negligible adverse effects on the steady response. The robustness of the design implies that the method is of great value for engineering applications.

A Design of Adaptive Controller for Transportation System with Dynamic Friction

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive control algorithm to improve the position accuracy and reduce the nonlinear friction effects for linear motion servo system. Especially, the considered system includes not only the variation of the mass of the mover but also the friction change by the normal force. To adapt to these problems, we designed the controller with the mass estimator and the compensator by observing the variation of normal force. Finally, the numerical simulation results are presented in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed method to improve the position accuracy compared to other control methods.
