  • For efficient message passing of Parallel programs, it is required to schedule the involved two processes at the same time which are executed on different nodes, that is called 'co-scheduling' However, each node of cluster systems is built on top of general purpose multitasking OS. which autonomously manages local Processes. Thus it is not so easy to co-schedule two (or more) processes in such computing environment. Our work proposes a co-scheduling scheme for MPI-based parallel programs which exploits message exchange information between two parties. We implement the scheme on Linux cluster which requires slight kernel hacking and MPI library modification. The experiment with NPB parallel suite shows that our scheme results in 33-56% reduction in the execution time compared to the typical scheduling case. and especially better Performance in more communication-bound applications.

  • This paper considers a transporter scheduling problem under dynamic block transportation environment in shipbuilding. In dynamic situations, there exist the addition, cancellation or change of block transportation requirements, sudden breakdowns and maintenance of transporters. The transportation of the blocks in the shipyard has some distinct characteristics. Some blocks are available to be picked up at a specific time during the planning horizon while some other blocks need to be delivered before a specific time. These requirements cause two penalty times: 1) delay times incurred when a block is picked up after a required start time, and 2) tardy times incurred when a block shipment is completed after the required delivery time. The blocks are located at different areas in the shipyard and transported by transporters. The objective of this paper is to propose a heuristic algorithm based on a network flow model which minimize the weighted sum of empty transporter travel times, delay times, and tardy times. Also, a rolling-horizon scheduling method is proposed for dynamic block transportation environment. The performance of the proposed heuristic algorithms are evaluated through a simulation experiment.

  • Recently, Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) with Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) scheme is introduced into Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) systems to improve digital services for User Equipments (UEs), especially for cell-edge UEs. However, Radio Resource Management (RRM), including Resource Block (RB) scheduling and Power Allocation (PA), in this scenario becomes challenging, due to the intercell cooperation. In this paper, we investigate the RRM problem for downlink transmission of HetNet system with Joint Processing (JP) CoMP (both joint transmission and dynamic cell selection schemes), aiming at maximizing weighted sum data rate under the constraints of both transmission power and backhaul capacity. First, joint RB scheduling and PA problem is formulated as a constrained Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) which is NP-hard. To simplify the formulation problem, we decompose it into two problems of RB scheduling and PA. For RB scheduling, we propose an algorithm with less computational complexity to achieve a suboptimal solution. Then, according to the obtained scheduling results, we present an iterative Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) method to solve the PA problem. Extensive simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithms. Two kinds of JP CoMP schemes are compared with a non-CoMP greedy scheme (max capacity scheme). Simulation results prove that the CoMP schemes with the proposed RRM algorithms dramatically enhance data rate of cell-edge UEs, thereby improving UEs' fairness of data rate. Also, it is shown that the proposed PA algorithms can decrease power consumption of transmission antennas without loss of transmission performance.

  • In this paper, a hybrid scheduling algorithm is proposed for CMS(Combat Management System) to improve QoS(Quality of Service) based on DWDRR(Dynamic Weighted Deficit Round Robin) and priority-based scheduling method. The main proposed scheme, DWDRR is method of packet transmission through giving weight by traffic of queue and priority. To demonstrate an usefulness of proposed algorithm through simulation, efficiency in special section of the proposed algorithm is proved. Therefore, We propose hybrid algorithm between existing algorithm and proposed algorithm. Also, to prevent frequent scheme conversion, a hysteresis method is applied. The proposed algorithm shows lower packet loss rate and delay in the same traffic than existing algorithm.

  • In this paper, we present a co-design methodology of dynamic optimal network-bandwidth allocation (ONBA) and adaptive control for networked control systems (NCSs) to optimize overall control performance and reduce total network-bandwidth usage. The proposed dynamic co-design strategy integrates adaptive feedback control with real-time scheduling. As part of this co-design methodology, a "closed-loop" ONBA algorithm for NCSs with communication constraints is presented. Network-bandwidth is dynamically assigned to each control loop according to the quality of performance (QoP) information of each control loop. As another part of the co-design methodology, a network quality of service (QoS)-adaptive control design approach is also presented. The idea is based on calculating new control values with reference to the network QoS parameters such as time delays and packet losses measured online. Simulation results show that this co-design approach significantly improves overall control performance and utilizes less bandwidth compared to static strategies.

  • In this paper, the system-level performance is evaluated for the feedback scheme on the pre-coding matrix index (PMI) and channel quality indication (CQI), which are required for user selection in the multi-user MIMO system. Our analysis demonstrates that the number of users, the number of selected users, and codebook size are the key factors that govern the performance of the best companion grouping (BCG)-based user scheduling. Accordingly, we have confirmed that the probability of forming the co-scheduled user group is determined by these factors, which implies that the number of PMI's and codebook size can be dynamically determined so as to maximize the average system throughput as the number of users varies in the cell.

  • This paper proposes a coordinated multi-point (CoMP) based dynamic transmission scheme in a downlink multi-ship network, where a central ship selects a ship in order to maximize the utility function. The proposed scheduling scheme dynamically decides to the usage of the coordinated multi transmissions and selects a user to be served for every frame, in order to the utility function on the basis of the throughput and fairness. In particular, the proposed utilify function based scheduling scheme aims to increase the quality of service of ships at the edge of cells. Under the proportional fair scheduling, the simulation results show that the proposed utility function-based scheduling improves the throughput of the ships at the cell edge with the little sacrifice of the system capacity.

  • In this paper, we have described the Ramp Activity Coordination Expert System (RACES) which can solve aircraft parking problems. RACES includes a knowledge-based scheduling problem which assigns every daily arriving and departing flight to the gates and remote spots with the domain specific knowledge and heuristics acquired from human experts. RACES processes complex scheduling problem such as dynamic inter-relations among the characteristics of remote spots/gates and aircraft with various other constraints, for example, custome and ground handling factors at an airport. By user-driven modeling for end users and knowledge-driven near optimal scheduling acquired from human experts, RACES can produce parking schedules of aircraft in about 20 seconds for about 400 daily flights, whereas it normally takes about 4 to 5 hours by human experts. Scheduling results in the form of Gantt charts produced by the RACES are also accepted by the domain experts. RACES is also designed to deal with the partial adjustment of the schedule when unexpected events occur. After daily scheduling is completed, the messages for aircraft changes and delay messages are reflected and updated into the schedule according to the knowledge of the domain experts. By analyzing the knowledge model of the domain expert, the reactive scheduling steps are effectively represented as rules and the scenarios of the Graphic User Interfaces (GUI) are designed. Since the modification of the aircraft dispositions such as aircraft changes and cancellations of flights are reflected to the current schedule, the modification should be notified to RACES from the mainframe for the reactive scheduling. The adjustments of the schedule are made semi-automatically by RACES since there are many irregularities in dealing with the partial rescheduling.

  • FMS are being installed to improve productivity, manufacturing consistency and flexibility. However, FMS are quite expensive and efforts must be made to avoid the high investment risk. The objective of this paper is to enable the real-time rescheduling under dynamic changes in FMS environment. For this purpose, a KBSS (Knowledge-Based Scheduling System) in FMS environment is developed. This KBSS will meet various requirements of users, for example, to minimize makespan, average flow time, or to maximize machine utilization.
