This paper is architectural paper which has been studied about residential culture of Southwestern Island from 18C to now. It's main object is suggest a new residential type. Contents of research is 1, to survey a history and a cultural environment of island. 2. to survey and rearrange residence(traditional, modem) which has been built from the past to the present, and establish a history of residence and a theory. 3. to search for architectural space, shape(form), and architectural community, etc. which can be continued. 4. to suggests ideal future residence type of islands. Effectiveness of Research is 1. This study suggests a new theory and a new method to the field of residential science, especially to the residence of island area. 2. In this study, traditional theory of residence be reflected in the modern architectural design.

In Korea, a movement for founding space for women has been popular to improve the individualistic living environment. However, Consideration for male is laking in housing space. The purpose of this study is to: 1) analyze living status, using behavior of housing space, and actual state and need for male space, 2) plan apartment unit focused on specialized features for male residents. The study collected data from 108 men who were 30 years and older. The result of the study show that men were in need of consideration for a life of leisure, homeworking and household chores in dwelling space. Besides, most male residents didn't have their space even though they wanted it.

Coarse woody debris (CWD) is generally considered dead woody material in various stages of forest decomposition and has been hypothesized to be an important habitat feature for mammals in forests of the Pacific Northwest, USA. Sherman and pitfall trapping were conducted for 2 years on three paired sites with low and high amounts of CWD. Deer mice was the dominant species with a total capture of 605 (45.6%). Four species of insectivores were captured, including Sorex moncicolus, S. trowbridgii, S. vagrans, and Neurotrichus gibbsii. A Poisson regression model was used to test whether 11 CWD variables could predict insectivore captures. The volume of logs and mean decay were important variables for deer mice use of CWD. Mean distance from pieces of CWD to the capture point was significantly related to the total number of captures of trowbridge shrew (Sorex trowbridgii) and all insectivore species. Vagrant shrews (Sorex vagrans) were significantly associated with log volume. Retaining large size CWD should be part of a management plan for ground-dwelling insectivores in forests to secure their biodiversity.

With rapidly industrial development, a railway has become of a main traffic means. But, the railway noise has caused much annoyance for the residents living nearby railway tracks. Therefore, in our country, for established of Quite dwelling environment, execute regulation standard of railway noise from January 1, 2000. Efficiency soundproofing measures, however, are very difficult because of the lack of basic data and insufficiency of the existing research. In this point, this study attempts to survey the characteristics of attenuation and propagation of railway noise in by existence of noise barrier. And this study intends to get the basic data for establishment of a standard about railway noise.

Considering the present development situation of domestic apartment complexes, the environment and its landscape is monotonous and dull, so the diversity is very important socially and visually. The ground floor dwellings can influence the richness and diversity of ground landscape in the apartment housing. Because they are set on the ground and directly contact with people's sight line. In this context, this study aims to identify the elements of design diversity in the ground floor dwellings, to analysis the architectural characteristics of them and to propose the improvement of diversity.

From 1998, the number of household who live in apartment house outnumber that of household live in detached dwelling by 0.3% in Korea. As walls and floors are shared with neighbourhood in apartment houses, percent complaints to the impact noise from the upper floor was so high that it represents an important factor in apartment indoor noise. And the rate is closely correlate with children's running, playing and jumping. In this study, comparisons of standard impact source, such as Tapping Machine and Bang Machine, with real life impact sources were made in order to investigate acoustical characteristics between them. Also reproducibility tests for impact sound sources were carried out.

Our country already came into the aging society in 2000, and it will reach the ultimate aging society in 2026. Also it is necessary the architectural proposal to serve the aging society problem. Recently days, it is increased that the aged welfare facilities, and the concern of aged welfare facilities. This study, approaching the charged aged man welfare facilities suggested as an alternative about the increase of aged man and the aged man problem in architectural and environmental aspect, investigated about the overall environment from the establishment of the charged welfare facilities to indoor space on the basis of the satisfaction degree and requiring condition of users through the estimation after residing. Thus this study is purposed to insist importance about analysis the aged welfare facilities and dwelling conscious.

It is increasing the interest on the comfortable dwelling environment and the efforts to solve the problem of the floor impact noise in apartment houses have been realized, as a result numerous products have been made. The purpose of this study is to investigate the sound insulation performances according to foaming rate of floor impact noise insulators and flooring coverings in Mock-up Test Room. The test results of impact insulation performance for each floor impact noise insulators is that double structure of insulator is excel than one in low-middle frequency band and as foaming rate go up, the sound insulation performance is improved.

Recently, the interest on the comfortable dwelling environment is increasing and the effort to solve the problem of exterior noise was tried. The propose of this study is to suggest the design of balcony window in apartment and to evaluate the sound insulation of it. So, we designed five types of balcony window which were considered not only sound insulation but ventilation. The sound reduction index of window was evaluated by the measurement in mock-up room. The results showed that case 2 improved about 6 dB in the weighted apparent sound reduction index than case 1, and case 3 reduced about $39 \%$ in construction cost than case 4.
