We investigate the properties of OH, SiO, and $H_2O$ maser emission in O-rich AGB stars. We use a sample of 3373 objects, which is an updated version of the list of O-rich AGB stars presented in Suh & Kwon (2011). We divide the 3373 O-rich AGB stars into four different groups based on the maser emission: OH maser sources (1533), SiO sources (1627), $H_2O$ sources (452), and sources with no maser (610). To understand the nature of the maser sources, we present various infrared two-color diagrams (2CDs) using IRAS, 2MASS, and AKARI data. For each group, we compare the positions on various infrared 2CDs with theoretical models. We find that the OH maser sources generally show larger color indices and larger dust optical depths than SiO or $H_2O$ sources. We suggest that the differences of the color indices for different maser sources are due to different mass-loss rates and dust formation processes.
A large amount of particles on the roads is produced by friction between the vehicles and the road surface and by inflow from outside. The type of these particles affects the abrasion behavior of tire tread. In this study, road dust collected at a bus stop was separated by size, and the particles with sizes of 106-212 mm were analyzed. The particles were separated by density using NaI and NaBr aqueous solutions with densities in the range of 1.10-1.80 g/cm3 with the 0.10 g/cm3 interval. In the road dust sample, the following particle types were found: tire-road wear particles (TRWPs), asphalt pavement wear particles (APWPs), plant-related particles (PRPs), road paint wear particles (RPWPs), and plastic particles (PPs). The densities of TRWPs, APWPs, PRPs, and RPWPs were 1.20-1.80, >1.60, >1.10, and >1.40 g/cm3, respectively, while PPs were found in all density ranges. Additionally, many small mineral particles were observed on the particles. Order of the relative content of the particles was PRP > TRWP > APWP ~ RPWP > PP. APWPs that were stuck to TRWP could be removed by chloroform treatment. The shapes of the particles were characterized using their magnified images.

Feedback from accreting BH (AGN) is thought to be responsible for the co-evolution of BHs and galaxies. It is likely to be prominent in the most luminous dust-obscured quasars, particularly those containing radio sources too luminous to be powered by starbursts. In order to investigate the feedback mechanism in detail, we select a unique sample containing ~ 200 of the most luminous obscured QSOs by cross-matching the WISE catalog with the FIRST and NVSS radio surveys. We present overall statistics for the observed range of colors and radio/mid-IR flux density ratio. We also present our efforts to understand the physical and evolutionary nature of these extreme feedback candidates using various telescopes such as Magellan, SOAR, Herschel, and ALMA.
We make a new catalog of AGB stars in our Galaxy from the sources listed in the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) point source catalog (PSC) compiling the lists of previous works with verifying processes. We verify the class identification of AGB stars into oxygen-rich and carbon-rich stars using the information from recent investigations. For the large sample of AGB stars, we present infrared two-color diagrams from the observations at near infrared bands and IRAS PSC. On the two-color diagrams, we plot the tracks of theoretical radiative transfer model results with increasing dust shell optical depths. Comparing the observations with the theoretical tracks, we discuss the meaning of the infrared two-color diagrams.
Airborne suspended particulate concentration in drilling sites of underground coal mines in Taebaek area was evaluated. And respirable coal dust exposure level was evaluated. Airborne suspended particulate mass include total suspended particle(TSP) and thoracic particle(TPM). TSP (by open-face filter holder) and TPM(by elutriator) concentration were determined by low volume air samplers. Personal air samplers were attached to the coal workers including drillers, coal cutters, and their assistants. Normality and log-normality of TSP, TPM, and respirable dust(RPM) concentration were tested by Kolmogorov-Smirnov one-sample test. Differences of means of TSP, TPM, and RPM concentration were tested by paired t-test. Relation between TSP, TPM, and RPM with pairs were tested by regression test and Pearson's correlation.
With advancement of infrared space telescopes during the past decade, infrared wavelength regime has been a focal point to study various properties of galaxies, such as stellar mass, dust contents and dust-hidden star formation with respect to evolution of galaxies. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) have emerged as one of the most important features since these features dominate mid-infrared spectra of galaxies. These PAH features provide a great handle to calibrate star formation rates and diagnose ionized states of grains. However, PAH $3.3{\mu}m$ feature has not been studied as much as other PAH features since it is weaker than others and resides outside of Spitzer's capability. Still its calibration and characterization are important since it will be the only PAH feature accessible by JWST for high-z galaxies. AKARI mJy Unbiased Survey of Extragalactic Sources in 5MUSES (AMUSES) intends to take advantage of AKARI's capability of spectroscopy on 2 to 5 ${\mu}m$ to provide an unbiased library of 44 sample galaxies selected from a parent sample of 5MUSES, one of Spitzer legacy projects. For these 3.3mm flux limited sample galaxies whose redshifts range between 0 < z <1, AMUSES will calibrate PAH $3.3{\mu}m$ as a SFR while measuring ratios between PAH features and investigating Bra's potential as a SFR indicator. We present preliminary results of AMUSES.
Using deep images taken at Maidanak 1.5m telescope, at McDonald 2.1m telescope and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, we investigated the fraction of merging galaxies in hosts of 26 AGN which are brighter than M = -22.2 mag and nearer than z = 0.2. We found that 9 to 12 of 26 AGN host galaxies show the evidence of mergers like tidal tail, shell via visual inspection. We also studied with the merging fraction of a control sample, SDSS Stripe82 galaxies. Surface brightness limit and magnitude are similar to that of the AGN sample. We found that merging fraction of the AGN sample is higher than that of normal galaxy samples. This result implies that AGN activity may be correlated with merging. We also investigated the detailed morphology of merging feature. About ~1/4 of control sample classified as a tidal and tidal+dust are shell structures. On the other hand only one of the AGN sample shows shell structures. Almost all merging AGNs show tidal tail features. From point of view that tidal tail may be at the early stage of merging, and shell may be at the late stage of mergers, this result implies that AGN may be evolved into early-type galaxies after merging.
The heavy metal of suspended particulates with human health has long been studied in environmental interest concerned. This study was intended to identify harmful heavy metals of the ambient air borne dusts which were related with the respirable sizes in the aerodynamics. Two sampling sites were selected comparatively; one was in the Shinchon area, which is the commercial district with heavy traffic and the other site was in the Bulgwang area which is residential area. The supended particulates were sampled by high volume air sample with 6 cascade impactor stages. The heavy metals in terms of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, V and Zn were determined by stomic absorption spectrometry or inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry. The samples weretaken bimothly for seven consecutive days from May 1987 to March 1988. The annual average concentration of the respirable suspended dust of which diameter is less than 10$\mum$ was 152.59 $\mug/m^3$ of the Shinchon air samples; the respirable dust was equivalent to approximately 85% of the total suspended particulates. The annual average concentration of the respirable suspended dust of the Bulgwang air samples was 112.56 $\mug/m^3$; that was approximately 86% of the total suspended particulates. The concentration of heavy metals was investigated in relation to the particle size. The concentration of Cr, Fe, Mn and V were tended to be much more in the coarse particles than in the fine particles. Cd and Pb in the fine particles were more than in the coarse particles. In the partial correlation coefficients; in the Shinchon area, high correlations among Fe, Se and Mn were determined; it is assumed that those sources would be originated from coal, gasolineand diesel. In Bulgwang area, would be high correlation among Fe, Se, Hg and Mn considered to be originated from coal, Bunker-C and heavy oil as well. From the above results, the hazardous heavy merals in air should be measured and controlled in originally their sources.
