  • Nowadays, a concern of building environment has been arousing. Furthermore, according to this trend, the social concern has expended continuously. Especially, the right of daylight is essential for both the pleasant life and building maintenance. In this reason, it has dealt as like property right. Therefore, the Infringement on the right of daylight can be applicable to the infringement of property right. However, few un-notarized calculation methods have been used without careful examination about daylight duration calculation methods which can be used for determine sunshine infringement as the dispute solution, therefore. In this thesis We analyzed and concluded the differentiations of two calculation methods which are using nowadays.

  • With the recent overcrowding of metropolitan cities and people's increasing interest in housing environment, there are frequent disputes occurring over the right to daylight. In order to determine whether daylight has been encroached accurately. we need to consider the daylight change by the effect of the geographical features of the surrounding areas but most of the previous relevant studies overlooked this consideration. Thus, in order to determine the encroachment of daylight accurately, this study analyzed the change in the duration of daylight according to geographical features by applying the Hemispherical Viewshed Algorithm to Busan Metropolitan City. According to the results of the analysis, the minimum and average duration of daylight decreased with an increase of altitude by 50m. Second, according to the time bound designated by law, up to 78.6% of the area was influenced by the duration of daylight. Third, the geographical features of the surrounding areas had a significant effect on the duration of daylight. Accordingly, in order to analyze the right to daylight accurately, it is essential to consider the geographical features of the surrounding areas. Furthermore, the Hemispherical Viewshed Algorithm used in this study and the visible area of the sky obtained from the algorithm are considered helpful to analyze the influence of the geographical features of surrounding areas on the legal duration of daylight before analyzing the practical right to daylight.

  • Nowadays, architecture in urban areas is dominated by the goal of spanning wide spaces and creating openings large enough to distribute daylight to building interiors. Daylight availability of building in city strongly depends not only on the building's height but also on spaces between buildings. Recently numbers of disputes over the daylight availability are increasing in high density developed areas because residents' demand for pleasant residential environment is getting stronger. Therefore in this study we constructed the three-dimensional information of buildings using LiDAR data connected with digital map and then suggested conclusions by applying it to daylight availability analysis. This study presents an approach to judge accurately the violation of a right to enjoy sunshine by using altitude and azimuths of the sun, simulating three-dimensional urban space precisely, and classifying the total duration of sunshine and the continuous duration of sunshine each householder. We expect that local government performs precisely the confirmation and permission business about urban planning and design by advising this approach.

  • Daylight saving time aims at spending effective daylight in summer season. Korea had enforced daylight saving time twelve times from 1948 to 1988. Since 1988, it is not executed, but it is recently discussed the resumption of DST. In this paper, we investigate the trend of DST in other countries, review the history of DST in Korea, and suggest the optimal DST duration in terms of astronomical aspects (times of sunrise and sunset). We find that the starting day of DST in Korea is apt for the second Sunday in Mayor the second Sunday in April according to the time of sunrise or to the difference between Korean standard meridian and observer's, respectively. We also discuss time friction that might be caused by time difference between DST and Korea Standard Time (KST).

  • A low earth orbit satellite with a fixed solar array always has a sun-pointing attitude during daylight, and changes into a nadir-pointing attitude for a imaging mission. Since external heating sources to the satellite panels are Earth irradiation and Albedo during most of daylight in a sun-pointing attitude, the thermal environment condition is relatively stable. However, direct sunlight which is the greatest environmental heating has an affect on the satellite panels during a mission period (10% of one orbit) in a nadir-pointing attitude. In satellite thermal design, thermal effects of a nadir-pointing mission attitude due to this thermal environment change need to be evaluated although the duration of a nadir-pointing attitude is short. Therefore, a nadir-pointing attitude during a mission is incorporated into thermal model and by the thermal analysis result, thermal effects on the satellite are investigated.

  • LED technology offers versatile lighting control while having a very low environmental impact. Consequently, increasing attention is being paid to the emotional impact of LED lighting. This study investigated whether the chromacity of LED lighting influences people's time perception. To this end, two empirical studies were conducted: First, in experiment I(N=28), the subjects compared their perception of the time duration, which was varied from 3s to 20s, for 6 chromatically nuanced lighting conditions, respectively, with that under a daylight condition. The results showed that, in warm-color nuanced lighting conditions, the subjects perceived time to pass more slowly than in the daylight condition. On the contrary, in cool-color nuanced lighting conditions, the subjects perceived time to pass more rapidly than in the daylight condition. Then, in experiment II(N=39), the subjects were asked to count for 90 seconds while simultaneously performing some cognitive tasks. Confirming the results found in experiment I, the subjects perceived time to pass more rapidly in cool-color nuanced lighting conditions than in warm-color nuanced lighting conditions, although the difference was not statistically significant(p>0.05). In addition, the subjects tended to perceive the time to be shorter when the nuanced color of the light was closer to their preferred color.

  • The effects of monthly meteorological data measured at 11 stations in South Korea on pan coefficient were analyzed to develop the four types of multiple linear regression models for estimating pan coefficients. To evaluate the applicability of developed models, the models were compared with six previous models. Pan coefficients were most affected by air temperature for January, February, March, July, November and December, and by solar radiation for other months. On the whole, for 12 months of the year, the effects of wind speed and relative humidity on pan coefficient were less significant, compared with those of air temperature and solar radiation. For all meteorological stations and months, the model developed by applying 5 independent variables (wind speed, relative humidity, air temperature, ratio of sunshine duration and daylight duration, and solar radiation) for each station was the most effective for evaporation estimation. The model validation results indicate that the multiple linear regression models can be applied to some particular stations and months.

  • The importance of forests continues to increase throughout the world, and one of the reasons is that a forest is a major place to emit terpenes, which have been reported to be beneficial to human health. In South Korea, forests occupy about 64% of the total land area and consist mainly of pine and oak trees. Since only a limited number of forests have been analyzed to date, a comprehensive understanding of terpenes emitted from regional forests remains in its infancy in Korea. Here, to gain insights into terpenes from regional forests located in South Korea, we review the characteristics of Korean forests and recent studies on major terpenes emitted from regional forests as well as from native trees dominant in South Korea. We also discuss meteorological factors that affect the terpene emissions in Korean forests. In conclusion, 18 types of terpenes were detected in Korean forests and their compositions in different forests are largely dependent on the dominant plant species in the forest. Moreover, terpene emissions in Korean forests are affected by various environmental factors, including temperature, amount and duration of daylight, season, and age of trees. To improve the understanding of the characteristics of terpene distribution, more studies are required on the terpene production of Korean forests in various regions.

  • This paper describes the development of various lighting equipment adapting Ultra Constant Discharge Lamp that has newly been on commercial supply in the market. Meeting the required conditions of lighting equipment, various types of UCD Lamp equipment with excellent performances could be successfully developed. In order to provide a guideline for the economical lighting product selection, the analyzed data comparison between Hi-pressure Sodium Lamp which has been the most popular lamp for street lighting and UCD Lamp is provided. The conclusions of the study are made as follows; (1) The performance measurement result of UCD Lamp shows excellent Luminous Efficacy as 108Lm/W, daylight-like Color Rendering Index as 90Ra, and the best operating temperature range as $-50^{\circ}C{\sim}+85^{\circ}C$. Comparing to the Hi-pressure Sodium Lamp, UCD could be evaluated as much superior products. (2) In an assembled status with the lighting fixture (Type STB형-60W), UCD Lamp was tested OK for one hour duration at the temperature range form $-50^{\circ}C$ to $+85^{\circ}C$ and the humidity of 98%. The operation at the extremely low temperature can be an excellent feature to enable the export to the cold temperature regions such as Northern Europe and Russia and the specific applications for defense systems and special industry. (3) As UCD Lamp is a genuine Korea made product following Energy-saving and Eco-friendly policy, it should be appreciated as one of the best $CO^2$ reduction Green product.
