TiCN thin films were deposited on tool steels at $510^{\circ}C$ by PECVD from a $TiCl_4+N_2+CH_4+H_2+Ar$ gaseous mixture. The microstructures and preferred orientation were investigated. The micro-scratch tests were performed using a system equipped with an acoustic emission sensor. Critical loads were determined to evaluate the adhesion of TiCN to substrate. The influences of the microstructures of substrates, double layered coatings, and coatings after nitriding(duplex coating) were investigated. The experimental results showed that the microstructures of substrates and double layered coating did not affect the critical loads considerably. By the duplex coating, critical loads were not always increased. In some cases, duplex coatings decreased critical loads significantly despite of absence of black layer. In this study, we tried to relate the results of scratch test to the residual stress analysis. Nitriding before the coating reduces the tensile residual stress in the film, which gives rise to low critical load in scratch test.
In order to investigate the interfacial structure between TiN and iron nitride, an AISI 4140 steel was nitrided to form a layer of thickness 15$\mum$ by DC ion nitriding, then the surface was bombarded with Ti ions and subsequently coated a TiN film of 5$\mum$ by arc ion plating method. The interfacial microstructure between TiN and iron nitride was characterized by optical microscope, SEM and XRD. So called black layer was observed in the duplex treatment. It was resulted from the decomposition of iron nitride during the bombardment. Its thickness was increased with increasing bombardment time at high bias voltage. But the thickness was greatly decreased when the iron nitride was bombarded with a nitrogen gas or at a reduced bias voltage. The adhesion strength of the top TiN coating was decreased with increasing thickness of the black layer. Furthermore, the reduced adhesion strength in this system was discussed in view of the interfacial structural relationship between TiN and iron nitride.
This study reports the influence of gadolinium (Gd) addition on mechanical and corrosion properties of 2205 duplex stainless steel. In all alloys produced, regardless of the initial Gd content, Gd-based inclusions were well distributed in the duplex stainless steel matrix. As the Gd content increased from 0 wt% to 0.19 wt%, the ultimate tensile strength and hardness of the alloy increased from 630 MPa to 977 MPa and from 57 to 61, respectively, while elastic modulus, tensile elongation and impact energy of the alloy decreased. The critical crevice temperatures of Alloy1, Alloy2 and Alloy3 were $20^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C$, respectively.
In this study, in order to develop the composition ceramics for ultrasonic sensor with high $d_{33}*g_{33}$, $Pb_{1-3x/2}Bix(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})_{0.03}(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{0.09}(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})_{0.88}O_3$(PMW-PNN-PZT) system ceramics were prepared using CuO as sintering aids. And then, their microstructure, piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were systemetically investigated with bismuth substitution. The PMW-PNN-PZT ceramic specimens could be sintered at sintering temperature of $940^{\circ}C$ by adding sintering aids. At x=0.015 specimen, the density, electromechanical coupling factor($k_p$), dielectric constant, piezoelectric constant($d_{33}$) and piezoelectric figure of merit($d_{33}*g_{33}$) indicated the optimal properties of $7.90g/cm^3$, 0.67, 2,511, 628 pC/N, and $17.7pm^2/N$, respectively, for duplex ultrasonic sensor application.
The effect of thermal aging at 475 ℃ and 750 ℃ of Z3CN20.09M cast duplex stainless steel (CDSS) on microstructure, mechanical and intergranular corrosion properties were investigated by transmission electron microscope (TEM), nano indenter, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and corrosion fatigue test system. The result indicated that the spinodal decomposition and G precipitated were occurred after aged at 475 ℃, as well as sigma precipitated at 750 ℃. The microstructure degeneration of ferrite was saturated after aged for 2000h and 200 h at 475 ℃ and 750 ℃ respectively. The mechanical properties, intergranular corrosion resistance and corrosion fatigue lives were continuing deteriorated with increasing the aging time at both temperatures. The difference of the degeneration mechanisms of Z3CN20.09M CDSS aged at 475 ℃ and 750 ℃ was analyzed.

The effect of partial substitution of tungsten for molybdenum on the microstructure and corrosion resistance in 22Cr-5Ni-3Mo duplex stainless steel(DSS) aging heat treated in a temperature range of 600~$1000^{\circ}C$ has been investigated. Electrochemical tests were carried out for the evaluation of corrosion resistance. Aging treatment had hardly influenced the general corrosion resistance. With the increase of aging time, the pitting corrosion resistance of the DSS had decreased, After aging for 2min at 700~$900^{\circ}C$, the pitting potential of the 3Mo steel decreased remarkably, while that of the W-substituted steel hardly changed. During aging. the intermetallic $\sigma$ and secondary austenite ($\gamma_2$) phases were precipitated. and the pitting corrosion and intergranular corrosion resistance were significantly decreased after aging at 700~$750^{\circ}C$ for 10 h, which could be caused by the $\gamma_2$ formation. The ${\gamma}$$_2$ phase could affect the depletion of molybdenum and chromium in the $\gamma_2/\alpha and \gamma_2/\sigma$ boundaries.
High temperature deformation behavior of a heat-resistant duplex stainless steel, used as a retort in the Pidgeon process for Mg production, was investigated in this study. 25Cr-8Ni based duplex stainless steels were cast into rectangular ingots, with dimensions of $350mm{\times}350mm{\times}100mm$. Nitrogen and yttrium were added at 0.3wt.% each to enhance the heat-resistance of the steel. Phase equilibrium was calculated using the thermodynamic software FactSage$^{(R)}$ and the database of FSStel. For comparison, cast 310S steel, a widely used heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel, was also examined in this study. Dilatometry was conducted on the as-cast ingots for the temperature range from RT to $1200^{\circ}C$ and the thermal expansion coefficients were evaluated. The nitrogen addition was found to have an effect on the thermal expansion behavior for temperatures between 800 and $1000^{\circ}C$. High temperature tensile and compression tests were conducted on the ingots for temperatures ranging from 900 to $1230^{\circ}C$, which is the operation temperature employed in Mg production by the Silico-thermic reduction process. The steel containing both N and Y showed much higher strength as compared to 310S.
CD4MCU duplex stainless steel with gadolinium was fabricated as a neutron absorbing material by the air induction melting method. The gadolinium formed intermetallic compounds of Cu-Gd-Fe. There were no significant differences in hardness or ultimate tensile strength between experimental alloys. With the addition of gadolinium the yield strength of the cast alloy significantly increased, from $478.8{\pm}11.6$ to $514.2{\pm}29.9MPa$, whereas elongation of the cast alloy decreased with the addition of gadolinium, from $26.0{\pm}7.1$ to $7.0{\pm}2.5%$ due to the formation of gadolinium based intermetallic compounds.
Duplex stainless steels have the dual microstructure of austenite and ferrite phases. This steel exhibits generally a high corrosion resistance and higher mechanical strength compared with austenitic stainless steels. The steels used in the investigation have the chemical composition of Fe-22Cr-xNi-yMn-0.2N in which the contents of Ni and Mn were varied with maintaining the equal [Ni/Cr] equivalent. The fraction of ferrite phase was increased with the increase of annealing temperature. The impact factor of Mn element on the [Ni] equivalent was amended on the basis of the results of the investigation. 4Mn-2Ni alloy showed the highest pitting corrosion resistance. The fraction ratio, grain size and misorientation angle between grains were measured, and the correlation with pitting potential was investigated.
