Effects of Annealing and Post-weld Heat Treatments on Corrosion Behaviors of Super Austenitic Stainless Steel (소둔 및 용접후열처리가 슈퍼 오스테나이트계 스테인리스강의 부식거동에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of two different annealing temperatures on the level of the second phase precipitated in the microstructure and the corrosion behaviors of super austenitic stainless steel were examined. The sample annealed at a higher temperature had a significantly lower fraction of the sigma phase enriched with Cr and Mo elements, showing more stable passivity behavior during the potentiodynamic polarization measurement. However, after the welding process with Inconel-type welding material, severe corrosion damage along the interface between the base metal and the weld metal was observed regardless of the annealing temperature. This was closely associated with the precipitation of the fine sigma phase with a high Mo concentration in the unmixed zone (UMZ) during the welding process, leading to the local depletion of Mo concentrations around the sigma phase. On the other hand, the fraction of the newly precipitated fine sigma phase in the UMZ was greatly reduced by post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), and the corrosion resistance was greatly improved. Based on the results, it is proposed that the alloy composition of welding materials and PWHT conditions should be further optimized to ensure the superior corrosion resistance of welded super austenitic stainless steel.

  • A number of process problems should be solved in the multi-layered ceramic devices such as EMI filter. In particular, it is essential to control the sintering shrinkage in co-firing of different materials for obtaining defect-free samples such as crack, camber, and delamination which usually occur near the surface and interface. We studied the effect of the powder properties of ferrite on the co-firing behavior of green ceramic layers composed of ferrite and varistor. Three kind of ferrite powder samples as a function of milling time (24, 48, and 72 hr) were prepared. Varistor and ferrite ceramic green sheet were made by means of doctor blade process using slurry (ceramic powder and binder solution). Here, slurry was prepared by mixing 55 wt% powder with 45wt% binder solution. Varistor and ferrite green sheets were laminated at $80 kg/cm^2$, and co-fired at $900^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr. We obtained the camber-free and co-fired ferrite/varistor layer structure by controlling the milling time and sintering temperature.

  • To investigate the storage behavior of the defective LWR spent fuel, air-oxidation tests on non-irradiated and irradiated U $O_2$ were performed. The weight gains of non-irradiated U $O_2$ specimens are characterized by the S-shape curves at 250-40$0^{\circ}C$ temperature range. One hundred percent conversion of U $O_2$ to U$_3$ $O_{8}$ corresponds with about 4% weight increase. The activation energies are 110 kJ/mol above 35$0^{\circ}C$ and 153 kJ/mol below 35$0^{\circ}C$. The irradiated U $O_2$ specimens with about 35 GWD/MTU burnup were oxidized at 300-40$0^{\circ}C$ in air. They show a rapid increase of weight gain at the initial stage and a slow increase at the later stage when compared with non-irradiated U $O_2$. The activation energy under these conditions is 95 kJ/mol. Burnup and aging effects of irradiated U $O_2$ were also investigated at 35$0^{\circ}C$ in air environment, but the specimens appears insensitive to these variables.s.

Effect of Wear Environments on the High Stress Sliding Wear Behavior of Ni-base Deloro 50 Alloy (Ni계 Deloro 50합금의 고하중 Sliding 마모거동에 미치는 마모환경의 영향)

  • The sliding wear behavior of Ni-base hardfacing alloy, Deloro 50, was investigated at the contact stresses of 15ksi and 30ksi under the various wear environments. In air at room temperature, Deloro 50 showed lower wear resistance than Stellite 6 even at 15ksi due to the occurrence of severe adhesive wear. This seems to be caused by the lower hardness and work- hardening rate of Deloro 50 than those of Stellite 6. In water at room temperature, Deloro 50 showed as good wear resistance as Stellite 6 at 15ksi. It was considered to be due to that water could effectively prevent metal to metal contact through contacting asperities. However, Deloro 50 showed severe adhesive wear at 30ksi in water at room temperature. It seems to be that the water could not suppress adhesion wear at 30ksi. At $300^{\circ}C$ in air, Deloro 50 exhibited higher wear resistance than Stellite 6 even at 30ksi. It was considered that the oxide glaze layers formed on wear surface during sliding, effectively prevented direct metal-to-metal contacts.

Proposal of a New Type of 4-Lane Soundproof Tunnel Girder and Structural Performance Evaluation (4차선급 신형식 방음터널 거더 제안 및 구조적 성능평가)

  • The soundproof tunnels have been generally designed with H-beam girders, and the high weight of H-beam may cause the excessive design of the substructure. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new soundproof tunnel girder design composed of pipes and discontinuous plates. First, the structural behavior of the straight girder according to the design parameters was examined through finite element analysis. The arrangement and shape of the plates were determined as the design parameter, to obtain the optimal design of girder. After then, the structural behavior and buckling stability of the arched girder were subsequently evaluated. As a result of the parameter analysis, it was confirmed that the axial force acting on the girder increased and the moment decreased as the ratio of unsupported sections decreased or the number of supporting plates increased. The stress concentration on the pipe member was relieved by increasing the long axis length of the elliptical plate. Arched girder analysis showed that the structural efficiency increase as the long axis of elliptical plate increase. As a result of the buckling evaluation, the buckling threshold load of the three connected girders was about 3.7 times higher than the design load. Consequently, it was confirmed that the proposed soundproof tunnel structure design satisfies both light weight and structural safety.

Effects of Duckling training on Behavior and Rice Yield in Paddy Fields (오리 순치방법이 논 방사후 행동과 벼 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • Early introducing the ducks into the paddy field involves a variety of environmental changes such as new surroundings and contact with water, so that some free-ranged ducks show behavioral and physiological changes indicative of stress or die from not adapted for new circumstances. Moreover, the free-ranged ducks was tread on the rice plant, and required a great deal of labor and time for captured the ducks after finishing the introducing. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of accustoming and imprinting of duckling on behavior patterns, body weight gain and yield of the rice plant in paddy fields. Three paddy plots were used as control (no imprinting and no contact with people), taming (imprinting and regular handling) and roughness (handling roughly and strike terror to ducks) plots. Right after introducing the ducks into the paddy field, eating and moving behaviour of taming plot ducks tended to be longer time spend than that of other treatments. However, eating and moving time tended to be longer in the control than that of other two treatments on the 2 weeks after. Flighting distance was not showed in the free-ranging period taming plot, but the control plot was significantly (P<0.05) longer than the roughness plot. The captured time of free-ranged ducks tended to be shorter in the order of taming, control and roughness plots. Body weight gains was not significant. The number of rice plants damaged by free-ranging ducks in the taming plot were significantly (P<0.05) less than that in the control plot, but the yield and yield components of the rice plant were not differ among 3 treatments. These results indicated that the imprinting or regular handling and related treatments of duckling was reducing badly damage of rice plants, captured time and labor of free-ranged ducks in paddy field, although the working behavior of ducks and yield ability of the rice plants were not affected.

The Distribution and Behavior of Medically-derived 131I in the Yeongsan River Basin (영산강수계 의료기원 방사성요오드(131I) 핵종의 분포 및 거동평가)

  • BACKGROUND: Recently, the use of $^{131}I$ for diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer has been increasing, and the radionuclide is continuously released into aquatic ecosystem. This study was carried out to investigate the $^{131}I$ concentrations in mainstreams, tributaries, and sewage wastewater treatment plants (SWTPs) of the Yeongsan River Basin and to identify their origins from the assessment of behaviors in the rivers. METHODS AND RESULTS: The water samples were collected from 19 sites including mainstreams (13), tributaries (4) and SWTPs (2). The $^{131}I$ concentration was measured using a gamma-ray spectrometry with a HPGe detector. The $^{131}I$ in SWTPs was detected mostly in the discharged effluent at the sampling sites. However, from the surface water of the rivers, $^{131}I$ was found only at two sites from each sampling period of the first (MS4 and MS10) and the second half (MS4 and MS7) of the year 2017. The concentrations of $^{131}I$ in the effluent discharged from SWTPs were in the range of 0.0870 to 3.87 Bq/L for SWTP1, and $^{131}I$ in the river revealed that it was not detected in the upper streams of the mainstreams and tributaries, while continuous detection was found in the SWTPs and downstream sites affected by the effluent. However, the concentration of $^{131}I$ decreased downstream, eventually becoming undetectable. Such behavior was closely related to the behavior found in the SWTPs. CONCLUSION: These results indicated that medically-derived $^{131}I$ was discharged to the river via sewage effluent at the SWTPs. It is necessary to evaluate the influence of aquatic ecosystems through continuous monitoring in the future.

Home-Range of Mallard and Spot-billed Duck in Korea (청둥오리와 흰뺨검둥오리의 월동기 행동권 비교 연구)

  • Mallard and Spot-billed ducks that are typical wintering water birds use the wide rice field in the center of the water system as a wintering ground. I try to figure out the daily movement distance from Home-Range to wintering ground for mallard and spot-billed ducks in Mangyunggang, Dongjingang where located in central region. In 2015 wintering period by using a Cannon-net, I attached WT-300 to 5 mallard and 5 spot-billed ducks. Daily movement distance is an overall average 0.89km, the largest distance was 31.09km. Daily movement distance of mallard was 0.97km, the largest distance was 28.78km. Daily movement distance of Spot-billed ducks was 0.80km, the largest distance was 33.39km. Home-Range analysis is used by the SHP files that is compatible with GIS and ArcGIS 9.0 Animal Movement Extension, it was analyzed using the Minimum Convex Polygon Method (MCP) and the Kernel Density Estimation (KDE). The behavior rights of two kinds of ducks was $490.34km^2$ by Minimum Convex Polygon Method (MCP) ($SD=311.20km^2N=10$), an important habitats Kernel Density Estimation (KDE 50%) was $42.24km^2$. Home-Range of Mallard (MCP) was $568.02km^2$, it is wider than home-range(MCP) of spot-billed duck $397.13km^2$ relatively, the core habitats of mallard is $53.05km^2$, it is wider than mallard's core habitats(KDE 50%) $29.26km^2$ relatively.

  • Alumina powder have been expanded its application in industry and required to control its morphology such as powder size and aspect ratio of single particle. It can be synthesized by molten - salt method which is possible to obtain various shapes of ceramic particles by controlling the growth direction because each crystal face has different growth rate. In this study, various combinations of salts such as NaCl, $Na_2SO_4$, $Na_3PO_4$ and their mixture were used for control the growth of plate like alumina particle from the initial stage of synthesis because salt having different ionic strength can control the growth direction of ceramic particle under its melting condition around $800{\sim}900^{\circ}C$, and growth behavior of plate-like alumina particle with different reaction conditions such as temperature and concentration on the crystal size and shape was studied.

Preparation and Release Behavior of Albumin-Loaded PLGA Scaffold by Ice Particle Leaching Method (얼음입자추출법을 이용한 알부민 함유 PLGA 담체의 제조 및 방출 거동)

  • A novel ice particle leaching method for fabrication of porous and biodegradable PLGA scaffold has been proposed for the application to tissue engineering. After uniform mixing of poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and bovine serum albumin-fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC-BSA), the FITC-BSA loaded scaffold was fabricated by adding various ratio of ice particle. The release profiles of FITC-BSA were examined using pH 7.4 PBS for 28 days at $37^{circ}$. The release amount was determined by fluorescence intensity by using the fluorescence spectrophotometer and the morphological change of the scaffolds was observed by scanning electron microscope. The release initial burst of BSA containing scaffolds was lower than that of simple dipping scaffolds resulting in constant release aspect. Although the BSA concentration increased. the initial burst was not increased. As a result of this study, it can be suggested that ice particle leaching method for the tissue engineered scaffold miff be very useful and it is possible to impregnate with water soluble factors like cytokine. We suggest that ice particle leaching method may be useful to tissue engineered organ regeneration.
