  • This paper studies interconnection of DCS1800 and GSM900 dual-band networks. Two types of interconnection config-urations for GSM services, non-overlap and overlap, are described. We propose analytic and simulation models to investigate the ben-efit of the overlap configuration. Our results explain how the radio channel capacities, the inter-system handoff failure rate, the origi-nating call traffic ratio and the offered loads affect the system per-formance. This study indicates that with appropriate overlap con-figuration, the GSM dual-band network can significantly improve the quality of cellular service.

  • There are two relaxation frequencies in orthogonally polarized dual-mode solid-state lasers. Complex dynamic behaviors such as chaos can be observed by modulating orthogonally polarized dual-mode solid-state lasers. In this paper, we derived Maxwell-Bloch equations by considering anisotropy explicitly in laser-atom interactions and explained the complex nonlinear dynamical behaviors.

  • Ad hoc MAC protocols using directional antennas can be used to improve the network capacity. Directional antennas have a Deafness problem and decrease throughput of the network caused by increasing backoff duration. Dual channel protocols have been proposed to mitigate the Deafness and hidden node problems. In this paper, we propose a dual channel MAC protocol using a directional antenna to mitigate the Deafness problem and increase the network capacity. The performance of the proposed Ad hoc MAC protocol is confirmed by computer simulations using Qualnet ver. 3.8 simulator.

  • A simple measurement system is built to estimate the dual-antenna diversity gain at 2.4GHz easily in open lab environment. To obtain multipath fading propagation channel, the system consists of two transmission horn that placed on opposite direction and a rotating stage mechanically changing the position of test dual-antenna with time over distance greater than one wavelength. Estimated diversity is nearly same as theoretical value such that measured diversity gain of 30mm separated is about 6dB similar to theoretical value of 5.7dB and increases monotonically with the increasing separation distance as predicted by the theory. Proposed measurement system that is simple enough to fit in a small space can evaluate the performance of various dual-antennas with a reasonable accuracy with lower 5% difference between the ten sets of measured waveform distribution and theoretical Rayleigh cumulative distribution.

  • The effects of hydrogen ($H_2$) ratio on combustion and emission characteristics in a $H_2/diesel$ dual-fuel engine were investigated. Dual-fuel strategy was applied to improve the control of combustion phasing. The combustion phasing was retarded with increasing $H_2$ fraction. This can be explained by both reduced diesel concentration and chemical effect of $H_2$, which reduce the heat release rate during the low temperature reaction stage. Hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions of the engine were decreased drastically when $H_2$ ratio was increased.

  • This paper presents an optimal initial firing angle control based on the energy consumption and regenerative energy of a parallel multi-pulse thyristor dual converter for urban railway power substations. To prevent short circuiting the thyristor dual converter, a hysteresis band for maintaining a zero-current discontinuous section (ZCDS) is essential during mode changes. During conversion from the ZCDS to forward or reverse mode, the DC trolley voltage can be stabilized by selecting the optimal initial firing angle without an overshoot and slow response. However, the optimal initial firing angle is different depending on the line impedance of each converter. Therefore, the control algorithm for tracking the optimal initial firing angle is proposed to eliminate the overshoot and slow response of DC trolley voltage. Simulations and experiments show that the proposed algorithm yields the fastest DC voltage control performance in the transient state by tracking the optimal firing angle.

  • Hydrogen fueled engine with dual injection can achieve high power and high efficiency simultaneously. In this study, the suitable compression ratio of hydrogen fueled engine with dual injection were investigated including performance of this engine according to variation of compression ratio. As results, it was found that the suitable compression ratio of that was about CR=11, and torque and thermal efficiency increased by 6% and 7% respectively.

  • A novel differential dual-frequency antenna using proximity coupling is proposed. Dual bands are realized by a slot in the ground plane. The lower resonant frequency is controlled by the slot in the ground plane, and the upper resonant frequency is mainly determined by the dimensions of the radiating patch. Measured results show that the proposed antenna can operate at 2.51 GHz and 5.38 GHz.

  • Cooperative relaying methods have attracted a lot of interest in the past few years. A conventional cooperative relaying scheme has a source, a destination, and a single relay. This cooperative scheme can support one symbol transmission per time slot, and is caned full rate transmission. However, existing fun rate cooperative relay approaches provide asymmetrical gain for different transmitted symbols. In this paper, we propose a cooperative relaying scheme that is assisted with dual relays and provides full transmission rate with the same macro-diversity to each symbol. We also address equalization for the dual relay transmission system in addition to addressing the issues concerning the improvement of system performance in terms of optimal power allocations.

  • Dual origin and fenestration of the vertebral artery (VA) are very rare anomalies. Understanding of these variations, however, is important because they can be misdiagnosed as a VA dissection. A 42-year-old woman presented with motor weakness and sensory disturbance of the right upper extremity. Radiologic evaluations showed ectatic change in the right VA and an arteriovenous fistula between the right VA and the vertebral vein. We decided on endovascular occlusion of the proximal right VA and its fistulous portion. During the endovascular procedure, we had misunderstood the dual origin and fenestration of the VA as a dissection. Thus, failure to recognize these anomalies might result in unnecessary anticoagulation or therapeutic intervention. Clinicians should be alert to such VA variations when making a diagnosis and when planning any intervention or surgery involving the proximal VA.
