  • In this paper, the task-oriented optimal configuration in the sense of Velocity and Force manipulability measure of manipulator mounted on ROV is considered. Manipulability is a quantitative measure of manipulator's capability obtained under the limits of joint velocities or torques. The base arrangements and optimal joint configuration of manipulator, that maximize the manipulability measure under the constraints of given task, are investigated. With the two types of base arrangements of manipulator, workspace analysis is carried out to investigate merits and demerits of each arrangement on the view of manipulability measure. To find optimal joint configuration for a given task with each arrangement, the SQP(Sequential Quadratic Programming) optimization are performed. Weighted linear combination of velocity and force manipulability measure is object function for SQP optimization. The kinematic parameters of Dual Orion manipulator which will be mounted on KORDI ROV are used for simulation.

  • Passive microwave remote sensing technique have shown great potential for mon monitoring regional/global surface soil moisture. Given a single measurement at dual polarization/single frequency/single view angle, a strategic approach to artificially generating multiple microwave brightness temperatures is presented. And then the statistically generated microwave brightness temperature data are applied to the inverse algorithm, which mainly relies on a physically based microwave emission model and an advanced single-criterion multi-parameter optimization technique, to simultaneously retrieve soil moisture and vegetation characteristics. . The procedure is tested with dual polarized Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission Microwave Imager (TRMM/TMI) over two different cover sites in Oklahoma and Beltsville field experimental data. The retrieval results are analyzed and show excellent performance.

  • This paper presents the design of a narrow-band channel filter and its group-delay equalizer for a Ka-band satellite transponder. We used an 8th order channel filter for high selectivity with an elliptic-integral function response and an inline configuration. We designed a 2-pole, reflection-type, group-delay equalizer to compensate for the steep variation of the group-delay at the output of the channel filter, keeping the thermal stability at ${\pm}7$ ns of group-delay variation at the band edges over 15-55$^{\circ}C$. We devised a new tuning technique using short-ended dummy cavities and used it for tuning both the filter and equalizer; this removes the necessity of additional tuning after the cavities are assembled. Through measurement, we demonstrate that the group-delay-equalized filter meets the equipment requirements and is appropriate for satellite input multiplexers.

  • We have realized the swept source optical coherence tomography(SS-OCT) by using the self-fabricated wavelength swept laser(wavelength tuning range : 80nm, line-width : 0.12nm, wavelength sweeping rate : 50Hz). In addition, we have used the dual balanced detector that could make a mirror image in OCT display suppressed. We can also fabricate the comb filter of Michelson interferometer type for fast-signal processing in OCT. Using this SS-OCT system for measuring an mirror, a 1mm-depth glass and an onion, we confirmed that the in vivo epidermal cross-sectional images for them can be obtained appropriately.

  • The Space-borne electro-optical camera system has panchromatic redundant image channel as well as primary channel in order to increase reliability of satellite system. In most case redundant channel never been used during the whole mission period. Staggered array configuration using redundant image channel and new operation mode proposed which operates primary and redundant channel simultaneously. Without new hardware design, fast electronics and system complexity, we can get 1.414 times more fine GSD image of original system or we can get 1.414 times more SNR or High dynamic range imaging mode. In this paper we deal with several image quality improvement methods using dual panchromatic channel.

  • A new two dimensional (2-D) analytical model for the Threshold Voltage on dual material surrounding gate (DMSG) MOSFETs is presented in this paper. The parabolic approximation technique is used to solve the 2-D Poisson equation with suitable boundary conditions. The simple and accurate analytical expression for the threshold voltage and sub-threshold swing is derived. It is seen that short channel effects (SCEs) in this structure is suppressed because of the perceivable step in the surface potential which screens the drain potential. We demonstrate that the proposed model exhibits significantly reduced SCEs, thus make it a more reliable device configuration for high speed wireless communication than the conventional single material surrounding gate (SMSG) MOSFETs.

  • In the survivability and simplicity aspect, SONET Self-healing Ring(SHR) is one of the most important schemes for the high-speed telecommunication networks. Since the ring capacity requirement is defined by the largest STS-1 cross-section in the ring, load balancing is the key issue in the design of SONET SHR. Recently, most of the research on load balancing problem have been concentrated on the SONET single-ring case. However, in certain applications, multiple-ring configuration is necessary because of the geographical limitations or the need for extra bandwidth. In this paper, the load balancing problem for SONET dual-ring is considered by assuming symmetric inter-ring demands. We present a linear programming based formulation of the problem. Initial solution and improvement procedures are presented, which solves the routing and interconnection between the two rings for each demand. Computational experiments are performed on various size of networks with randomly generated demand sets. Results show that the proposed algorithm is excellent in both the solution quality and the computational time requirement. The average error bound of the solutions obtained is 0.26% of the optimum.

  • The flow field structures of dual jet-in-cross-flow were examined experimentally for in-lined perforated damage holes configuration using particle image velocimetry. Ensemble averaged in-plane velocity and vorticity data in the jet were determined to study the mean jet structure. Jets are formed by pressure differences between upper and lower airfoil surface. The flow structure of vicinity of the thru holes consist of a vortical structure that wrap around the jets like a horseshoe and develop further downstream through a pair of stream-wise vortices. The shape, size and location of the horseshoe vortex were found to be dependent on the angle of attack. In spite of the existence of battle damage holes, the effect on the control force was insignificant when the damage size was not large enough.

  • In this paper, we propose a smart transformer for a smart transformer miniature model, which can replace a 60 [Hz] single-phase transformer installed in an electric vehicle. The proposed smart transformer is lighter than a conventional transformer, can control instantaneous voltage, and can be expected to improve power quality through harmonic compensation. The proposed intelligent transformer consists of an incoming part, an AC/DC converter, and a dual active bridge. Only the incoming part and the AC/DC converter are described in this paper. The proposed intelligent transformer has 75 kVA 3.3 kV input and 750 V DC output, which are verified by simulation and experiment.

  • Clock Controlled Dual keeper Domino logic structures (CCDD_1 and CCDD_2) for achieving a high-speed performance with low power consumption and a good noise margin are proposed in this paper. The keeper control circuit comprises an additional PMOS keeper transistor controlled by the clock and foot node voltage. This control mechanism offers abrupt conditional control of the keeper circuit and reduces the contention current, leading to high-speed performance. The keeper transistor arrangement also reduces the loop gain associated with the feedback circuitry. Hence, the circuits offer less delay variability. The design and simulation of various wide fan-in designs using 180 nm CMOS technology validates the proposed CCDD_1 and CCDD_2 designs, offering an increased speed performance of 7.2% and 8.5%, respectively, over a conventional domino logic structure. The noise gain margin analysis proves good robustness of the CCDD structures when compared with a conventional domino logic circuit configuration. A Monte Carlo simulation for 2,000 runs under statistical process variations demonstrates that the proposed CCDD circuits offer a significantly reduced delay variability factor.
