Short Circuit Electromagnetic Force Prediction by Coupled Electromagnetic-Mechanical Field Analysis of Dry-Type Transformer (전자계-기계계 결합해석에 의한 건식변압기의 단락강도 예측)

  • This paper deals with the coupled electromagnetic-mechanical field analysis for short-circuit electromagnetic force of the dry-type transformer. The short-circuit currents are calculated using external circuit in accordance with short-circuit test equipment. According to short-circuit current, the generated magnetic leakage flux density in dry-type transformer model is calculated by finite element method. The radially-directed electromagnetic forces in windings are calculated using electromagnetic field analysis and then axially-directed electromagnetic forces in windings are calculated using electromagnetic-mechanical field analysis. The calculated axially-directed electromagnetic forces in high voltage winding are compared to those of measured ones and showed good agreement with experimental results.

  • This paper describes a method of lifetime expectation for the dry-type molded transformer which is widely used in the domestic distribution system. And the result of the temperature accelerated aging test for the winding insulation and the analyzed report on the reliability are included in this study.

  • Transformer failures are mostly due to partial discharges (PDs) caused by the deteriorated insulation. It is, therefore, important to monitor PD occurrence in insulation system and prevent their deterioration. The presented paper deals with a PD detection method by a capacitive probe, which easily apply to cast - resin dry - type transformers. The PD detection system consists of a capacitive probe and a low noise amplifier having the frequency bandwidth of 500 $Hz{\sim}30$ MHz. In the experimental set-up, sensitivity of the system is 7.16 mV/pC.

  • Various sensors such as capacitive probe, high frequency current transformer (HFCT), and acoustic emission (AE) probe were applied to a cast resin dry type transformer for partial discharge detection. We designed and fabricated a wideband low-noise amplifier having a gain of 40[dB]. From the experiment which was carried out in the same transformer, the sensitivities were 7.16[mV/pC] for capacitive probe, 3.8[mV/pC] for HFCT, and 17.9[mV/pC] for AE probe.

  • Most of the present potential transformers of train vehicles are of the oil-type filled with insulating oil and are susceptible to problems such as explosion due to the increase in the internal pressure during train operation and poor reliability near the end of their life cycle. As a solution to this problem, it is necessary to develop a molded dry-type potential transformer with excellent pressure-resistance performance using insulating resin. In order to localize the product, the Korea Railroad Research Institute has been developing a molded dry-type potential transformer. As part of this research, it is necessary to analyze the vibration characteristics of the developed product and to check the transformer performance in a vibration environment. In this study, a resonance test and simulated long-term life test of the developed product were conducted according to the KS R 9144 and IEC 61373 standards, respectively, which are vibration test methods for railway vehicle parts. Their natural frequencies were analyzed by comparing the results of the numerical modal analysis and resonance test, in order to confirm their adherence to the standards. Also, the performance test after the simulated long-term life test confirmed that the operation of the developed transformer was not problematic even in a long-time vibration environment.

  • This paper describes a method to estimate the thermal lifetime of coil used in the dry-type molded transformer which is widely used in the domestic distribution system. In order to reduce the testing time, temperature accelerated aging test is planned. Finally, the thermal lifetime estimation method is composed of a temperature aging test and a cyclic test of temperature, humidly and lightning impulse voltage withstand test.

  • Shunt reactors are used to compensate for capacitive VARs generated by lightly loaded transmission lines or underground cables. They are normally connected to the transformer tertiary winding. Dry-type shunt reactors have the advantage compared with oil-immersed shunt reactor as followings. Lower investment and maintenance cost, No fire hazard and no environmental concerns, Simple insulation to ground, Response to transient overvoltage less severe, Linearity of inductance versus load current, Lower-acoustic noise, Easier transport and handling due to lower weight, No oil-collecting system must be provided since there is no oil that can leak into the ground.

  • This paper presented the charcteristic of the thermal transfer in a 50[kVA] cast-resin dry type transformer. The conductivity of the primary winding composed were a Plenty of epoxy-resin ard a little of Cu was determined by that rating. Otherwise the conductivity of the secondary winding composed of a plenty of Cu and a little of epoxy-resin was determined by comparing the data of analysis using FEM method with those of temperature tests of the prototype cast-resin transformer. Based on the reults of the physical characteristics and the simulation by commercial using FEM method we established the prototype Model for this test. According to that Model, an analysis on variation of the temperature was discussed as a function of ambient temperature and velocities in the 50[kVA] cast-resin dry type transformer.

  • This paper presents a maintenance application for power transformer. High quality maintenance and accurate diagnosis are essential for all transformers, especially for older ones. The developed application provides maintenance guides for dry type transformer and oil-filled transformer to prevent any malfunctions and to lengthen the lifetime of transformers. Based on windows application, TTS (text to speech) and 3D graphics technologies have been used to enhance the user friendly interface. Developed application is helpful for both expert and novice operators at substation.

  • This paper presented the characteristic of Heat-transfer on the winding composed with Epoxy-resin in a 50 kVA cast-resin dry type transformer The resin cast transformer is used widely in supplying electricity systems. However, to know the thermal characteristics of that is very useful in designing, manufacturing, and maintaining, there is no pertinent method to calculate this. In this paper, Based on the results of the physical characteristics and the simulation by commercial software using FEM method, we established the Prototype Model for this. According to that Model, an analysis on a variation of the hottest spot temperature was discussed as a function of thermal conductivity for the individual windings composed with Epoxy-resin. The thermal conductivity of the individual windings with reference to upper way was discussed.
