사용후핵연료 운반용기 및 건식저장 기술 동향 (Technology Trends in Spent Nuclear Fuel Cask and Dry Storage)

  • As the management plan for domestic spent nuclear fuel is delayed, the storage of the operating nuclear power plant is approaching saturation, and the Kori 1 Unit that has reached its end of operation life is preparing for the dismantling plan. The first stage of dismantling is the transfer of spent nuclear fuel stored in storage at plants. The spent fuel management process leads to temporary storage, interim storage, reprocessing and permanent disposal. In this paper, the technical issues to be considered when transporting spent fuel in this process are summarized. The spent fuels are treated as high-level radioactive waste and strictly managed according to international regulations. A series of integrity tests are performed to demonstrate that spent fuel can be safely stored for decades in a dry environment before being transferred to an intermediate storage facility. The safety of spent fuel transport container must be demonstrated under normal transport conditions and virtual accident conditions. IAEA international standards are commonly applied to the design of transport containers, licensing regulations and transport regulations worldwide. In addition, each country operates a physical protection system to reduce and respond to the threat of radioactive terrorism.

감손 우라늄 베드 수소 탈장 성능 (Dehydriding Performance in a Depleted Uranium Bed)

  • It is necessary to store and supply hydrogen isotopes for Tokamak operation. A storage and delivery system (SDS) is used for storing hydrogen isotopes as a metal hydride form. We designed and fabricated a depleted uranium (DU) bed to store hydrogen isotopes. The rapid storage of hydrogen isotopes is very important not only for safety reasons but also for the economic design and operation of the SDS. The delivery rate at the desorption temperatures without the operation of a dry pump was analyzed in comparison with that with the operation of the dry pump. The effect of the initial desorption temperatures on the dehydriding of the DU without the operation of the dry pump was measured. The effect of the initial desorption temperatures on the dehydriding of DU with the operation of the dry pump was also measured and analyzed. The primary pressure on the desorption temperatures without the operation of the dry pump was analyzed in comparison with that with the operation of the dry pump. The temperature gradient of the coil heater and the primary vessel was also analyzed. Our results will be used to develop pilot scale hydrogen isotope processes. It was confirmed that dehydriding of a medium-scale DU bed has enabled without the operation of the dry pump.

Utilization of the Crust from Dry-aged Beef to Enhance Flavor of Beef Patties

  • The crust that inevitably forms on dry-aged beef is usually trimmed and discarded before sale. The aim of this study was to explore methods for utilizing this crust in processed meat products. Four sirloins were dry-aged for 28 d at $4^{\circ}C$ (75% relative humidity). The crust obtained from the surface of the sirloins after completion of dry aging was lyophilized. Patties were prepared without added crust (control) or with 5% w/w crust, aerobically packaged, and stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. Electronic nose analysis indicated that the volatile profile differed significantly between the patties with and without crust. Compared to the control patties, patties containing crust had higher flavor, tenderness, juiciness, and acceptability scores in a sensory panel evaluation (all p<0.05). In addition, patties with crust were less hard, gummy, and chewy than the control patties after 3 and 7 d of storage (all p<0.05). The number of total aerobic bacteria was higher in raw patties with crust than in the control patties during the storage (p<0.05). However, no pathogens were detected. 2-Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance values of patties containing crust were significantly lower than those of control patties after 2 and 6 d of storage (both p<0.05). Thus, crust from dry-aged beef can enhance the flavor by providing beefy and palatable flavor without a long period of dry aging.

THE EFFECTS OF CREEP AND HYDRIDE ON SPENT FUEL INTEGRITY DURING INTERIM DRY STORAGE

  • Recently, many utilities have considered interim dry storage of spent nuclear fuel as an option for increasing spent fuel storage capacity. Foreign nuclear regulatory committees have provided some regulatory and licensing requirements for relatively low- and medium-burned spent fuel with respect to the prevention of spent fuel degradation during transportation and interim dry storage. In the present study, the effect of cladding creep and hydride distribution on spent fuel degradation is reviewed and performance tests with high-burned Zircaloy-4 and advanced Zr alloy spent fuel are proposed to investigate the effect of burnup and cladding materials on the current regulatory and licensing requirements. Creep tests were also performed to investigate the effect of temperature and tensile hoop stress on hydride reorientation and subsequently to examine the temperature and stress limits against cladding material failure. It is found that the spent fuel failure is mainly caused by cladding creep rupture combined with mechanical strength degradation and hydride reorientation. Hydride reorientation from the circumferential to radial direction may reduce the critical stress intensity that accelerates radial crack propagation. The results of cladding creep tests at $400^{\circ}C$ and 130MPa hoop stress performed in this study indicate that hydride reorientation may occur between 2.6% to 7.0% strain in tube diameter with a hydrogen content range of 40-120ppm. Therefore, it is concluded that hydride re-orientation behaviour is strongly correlated with the cladding creep-induced strain, which varies as functions of temperature and stress acting on the cladding.

  • As recognized by all scientific and industrial groups, carbon dioxide($CO_2$) capture and storage(CCS) could play an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Especially carbon capture technology by dry sorbent is considered as a most energy-efficient method among the existing CCS technologies. Patent analysis has been considered to be a necessary step for identifying technological trend and planning technology strategies. This paper is aimed at identifying evolving technology trend and key indicators of dry sorbent from the objective information of patents. And technology map of key patents is also presented. In this study the patents applied in korea, japan, china, canada, US, EU from 1993 to 2013 are analyzed. The result of patent analysis could be used for R&D and policy making of domestic CCS industry.

Effects of cold and room temperature storage on the sprouting and marketability of early-grown spring potatoes

  • Three spring potato varieties (Atlantic, Chubaek, and Superior) were cultivated for 80, 90, and 100 days and compared in terms of their total and marketable yields and specific gravities. Subsequently, changes in the quality parameters (weight loss, sprouting rate, disease incidence, dry weight, and specific gravity) of potatoes cultivated for 100 days were monitored during two-month storage in improved and semi-underground warehouses at 4℃ and room temterature. The productivities of Atlantic, Superior, and Chubaek were maximized at cultivation periods of 100, 100, and >90 days, respectively. In all cases, cold storage resulted in <5.3% weight loss and no marketability loss. However, two-month room temperature storage resulted in pronounced marketability loss due to weight loss (6.2, 7.3% and 10.9% for Atlantic, Superior, and Chubaek, respectively) and sprouting (in ~13%, >75%, and 99% of Atlantic, Superior, and Chubaek tubers, respectively). The marketability of Atlantic, Superior, and Chubaek during cold storage was maintained for >2, ~2, and <2 months, respectively. All varieties were characterized by rapid sprouting, low dry weight and specific gravity, and rapid marketability loss during storage.

겨울철 냉기를 이용한 벼의 저온저장(I) - 벼 냉각 후 저장특성 - (Low Temperature Storage of Rough Rice Using Cold-Air in Winter(I) - Storage Characteristics after Rough Rice Cooling -)

  • The objective of this research was to establish a domestically available cooling storage technique by cold-air in winter, using winter cool air ventilation fur determining rough rice cooling method in the storage and dry bin. The rough rice storage characteristics of two test conditions, winter cool-air ventilation storage and ambient temperature storage, were evaluated from January to July 2001, using a storage and dry bin of 300-ton capacity. Results of this research are as follows: Grain temperature was from $-5.1\~-8.5^{\circ}C$ after winter cool-air ventilation, and grain initial temperature for ambient temperature bin storage was $0.3\~1.9^{\circ}C$. Moisture content of rough rice decreased from $0.28\;to\;0.93\%$ and from $1.53\;to\;1.92\%$ to compare with original moisture contents for winter cool-air ventilation, and for ambient temperature bin storage, respectively. Broken ratio of brown rice from winter cool-air ventilation bin increased from $0.16\;to\; 0.92\%$, and brown rice broken ratio was from $2.24\;to\;2.86\%$ for ambient temperature bin storage to compare with initial broken ratio. Hardness of stored rice increased along storage period increase in alt storage methods, and cooling bin storage increased rice hardness of 0.271kgf: this increasing was lower then the other methods from 0.059 to 2.239kgf. Germination rates were decreased approximately 9.03, 3.14 and $3.20\%$ for upper, middle, and bottom of ventilating winter air bin, respectively, and germination rates of 2.70, 3.47 and $4.14\%$ were approximately decreased for upper, middle, and bottom parts of ambient temperature bin storage, respectively.

돈육가공저장식품(豚肉加工貯藏食品)의 Nitrite 잔존량과 지방산패(脂肪酸敗) - 가내제조(家內製造)한 dry sausage와 ham의 Nitrite 및 Nitrate 잔존량 - (Residual Nitrite and Rancidity of Dry Pork Meet Products - Residual Nitrite and Nitrate in Home-Processed Dry Sausage and Ham -)

  • 육제품(肉製品)에 대한 세계적 Nitrite 함량 규제한계를 검토하고 우리나라의 환경조건 하에서 가내가공(家內加工)한 dry ham과 dry sausage의 Nitrite 잔존량을 조사하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) Nitrite와 Nate를 합(合)하여 ham에 264ppm, sausage에 185ppm $NaNO_2$ 당량을 첨가하여 자가제조(自家製造)한 dry meat products의 Nitrite 잔존량(殘存量)은 법적허용한계 양(量) 70ppm에 미달한 $32{\sim}67ppm$이었다. 시중판매제품(市中販賣製品) press ham들도 Nitrite 잔존량이 40ppm이하이며 제품회사마다 많은 차가 있었다. 2) Nitrite 잔존량은 제조첫날로 부터 증가하여 dry sausage는 2주(週), 또는 3주(週)에, dry ham은 5주(週)에 가장 높은 67ppnm을 나타냈고 저장기간이 길수록 점차 낮아졌다. 내장에 Casing한 Sausage와 여름철에 제조한 ham에선 각각 3주(週)와 4주(週)에 이미 10ppm 이하로 떨어져 있었다. 이는 Nitrite 잔존량이 제품의 염적 및 숙성과정에서 여러 가지 여건에 따라 차가 심한 것을 보여 준다. 3) Nitrate 함량은 Nitrite 함량이 가장 높은데 (sausage 3주, ham 5주에) 가장 낮은 상반된 값을 보였고 저장기간이 길수록 높아졌다.

독활 종자의 저장온도, 기간 및 방법에 따른 발아율과 유묘 생육특성 연구 (Studies on Germination Rates and Early Seedling Growth Characteristics by Different Storing Temperatures, Durations, and Methods in Aralia cordata var. continentalis (Kitagawa) Y.C.Chu)

  • This study was conducted to improve the managing and storing methods of the seeds of Aralia cordata var. continentalis (Kitagawa) Y.C.Chu, to examine the viability and the germination ability of seeds with different storing conditions and methods, and to develop new ways to propagate and have better healthy seedling. Therefore, the germination rate, days required for germinating seeds, and early growth responses of Aralia cordata var. continentalis (Kitagawa) Y.C.Chu were investigated with different storing temperatures, durations and methods. The germination rate was higher in stratified storage than that in dry storage condition. The highest germination rate was with outdoor temperature at 30 days after stratified storage. The days required for germinating seeds were less than 10 days with the treatment of $25^{\circ}C$ and outdoor temperature in stratified storage. In dry condition, they were shorter with $4^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$ than those with $-20^{\circ}C$ and outdoor temperature. Leaf number of seedling was higher in stratified storage compared to that in dry condition, while it was not clearly different according to storage temperatures and durations. Leaf length and leaf width of seedling was not difference among the treatment of storage methods, temperatures, and durations. Stem length of seedling was higher in stratified storage than those in dry condition, while root length was not clearly different among the treatments. It would be assumed that temperatures, methods and durations of storage could affect much to the germination rate and the early seedling growth response.

  • 왜문어 Octopus vulgaris의 천일건조 및 건조 후 3개월간 저장 중의 핵산관련물질의 변화를 이온교환수지 column chromatography 법으로 실험하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 살아있는 왜문어에서 절단한 생시료(다리) 중에는 inosine이 $9.4\;{\mu}mole/g{\cdot}dry\;wt.$로서 가장 함량이 많았고, 어류와는 달리 IMP는 존재하지 않았다. 건조중 ATP, ADT 및 inosine은 감소하고, AMP 및 hypoxanthine은 증가하였다. 특히 inosine은 생시료때 $9.4\;{\mu}mole/g\;dry\;wt.$이던것이 $3.0\;{\mu}mole/g\;dry\;wt.$로 감소하는 반면, hypoxanthine은 $5.1\;{\mu}mole/g\;dry\;wt.$에서 $17.6\;{\mu}mole/g\;dry\;wt.$로 증가하였다. 건조후 3개월간 저장 중에는 ADP, AMP 및 inosine은 감소하고 hypoxanthine은 약 2배로 증가하였다.
