Effect of Forms and Levels of Nitrogen Fertilizer on Plant Growth and Essential Oil Content of Agastache rugosa

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of forms and levels of nitrogen fertilizer on plant growth and essential oil production of Agastache rugosa. Calcium nitrate had more influenced on length and width of leaves and lateral branch length than did urea. When nitrogen fertilizer level was increased from 12 kgN/I0a to 24kgN/I0a, plant growth was stimulated and dry matter of leaf and inflorescence were increased. Top dry matter of plant with calcium nitrate treatment (38.4 g) was heavier than that of urea treatment (32.8 g). Interactions among accession and nitrogen form and nitrogen rate were not significantly different for top dry matter. The forms and rate of nitrogen fertilizer did not affect estragole content. The estragole contents was higher in leaf (91.8%) than that of inflorescence (81.3%). While the essential oil content was not affected by different nitrogen forms, nitrogen level affected the essential oil contents positively by increasing dry matter. Essential oil yield was not affected by accession or nitrogen form, but by nitrogen rate. With increasing N application from 12kgN/I0a to 24 kgN/I0a, essential oil yield was increased by 95.8 %.

Sward Characteristics and Nutritive Value of Two Cultivars of Subterranean Clover

  • Two cultivars of subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum L.), "Dinninup" and "Seaton Park" were sown at Shenton Park Field Station, Western Australia, in May 1992 and 1993. The characteristics of Dinninup related to animal production were compared with Seaton Park under grazing conditions with herbage utilization efficiencies of 60% in 1992 and 65% in 1993. The results showed that Dinninup and Seaton Park had similar dry matter digestibility (77-78%) and dry matter production (1,290 kg/ha in 1992; 930 kg/ha in 1993) before flowering initiation even though Dinninup had more (p<0.05) branches, leaves and petioles per plant. After flowering, the herbage on offer of Dinninup was higher (p<0.05) and dry matter digestibility was lower (p<0.05) than that of Seaton Park while the sward structure was similar for both cultivars. The variation in nutritive value among plant parts increased with maturation. Leaf was more digestible than stem and petiole with a higher nitrogen content, and stem had the lowest dry matter digesitibility and nitrogen content in late of the season. Sheep did not show any preference for Seaton Park over Dinninup. The predicted bodyweight gain of sheep grazing pure Seaton Park and Dinninup swards using Grazfed software indicated that sheep grazing Dinninup were predicted to have a similar bodyweight gain in early growing stage and a significantly lower gain after flowering compared with those grazing Seaton Park.

한국자생 음나무집단 및 채취부위에 따른 Kalosaponin 함량 변이 (Variation of Kalosaponin Contents in Plant Parts and Population of Native Kalopanax septemlobus(Thunb.)Koidz)

  • The concentrations of 4 kalosaponins from tissues of Kalopanax septemlobus (Thunb.)Koidz grown in 7 provenances in Korea were determined by HPLC. Kalosaponin contents in plant part were much higher in the inner bark(30.59 mg/g on the dry weight basis) than those of young leaves(22.74 mg/g on the dry weight basis) and root bark(18.02 mg/g on the dry weight basis). A considerable range of variation in the contents was observed among population. The kalosaponin contents in inner bark from each population were highest in the Mt. Barwang (30.37 mg/g on the dry weight basis) followed by Mt. Gariwang, Hanra II, Mangun, Paltan, and Hanra I population. A variation of kalosaponin contents among population may be affected by both environmental and genetic factors. Establishment of selection and propagation of high kalosaponin containing trees can be a good source for the development of valuable forest products.

  • 인삼(人蔘)의 연근별(年根別) 건물중(乾物重)과 삼요소(三要素) 흡수량(吸收量)및 기타(其他)미량원소등(微量元素等)을 분석(分析)하여 인삼식물(人蓼植物)의 양분(養分) 요구상(要求相)과 영양생리(營養生理) 연구(硏究)의 기초자료(基礎資料)를 얻고자 과천인삼시험장(果川人蔘試驗場) 산(産) $1{\sim}6$년근(年根) 인삼(人蔘)을 대상(對象)으로 조사(調査)한 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1. 인삼(人蔘)의 건물중(乾物重) 및 T/R율 T/R율은 저년근(低年根)이 적었고 4년근(四年根)이 0.52로 가장컸다. 이는 4년근(四年根)에서 지상부(地上部) 생육신장(生育伸長)이 왕성(旺盛)하기 때문인 것으로 사료(思料)되며 지상부(地上部) 및 근(根)의 건물중(乾物重)도 4년근(年根)에서 현저하게 증가(增加)하였다. 2. 인삼(人蔘)의 무기성분(無機成分)의 함량(含量) 가. 질소(窒素)는 엽근(葉根)에 비(比)해 경(莖)이 적었고 인산(燐酸)은 근(根), 경(莖), 엽순(葉順)으로 많으며 가리(加里)는 각년근(各年根) 공히 경(莖)에 많았고 특(特)히 N.P에 비(比)해 가리(加里)의 함량(含量)이 많았다. 나. 석회(石灰), 고토(苦土)는 엽(葉)과 경(莖)에 많았고 Fe, Mn은 각년근(各年根) 공히 엽(葉)에 많은 경향이며 Fe는 엽(葉)에 $1000{\sim}2000ppm$, 근(根) $350{\sim}750ppm$ Mn은 근(根)에 $40{\sim}80ppm$정도 함유(含有)되어 있었다. 다. Zn, Mn의 함량(含量)이 높은것은 Zn Mn 성분(成分)을 함유(含有)한 다이젠 약제살포(藥劑撤布)에 기인(基因)된 것으로 추측된다. 3. 6년근(年根)까지의 삼요소(三要素) 총흡수량(總吸收量)은 N;10.24kg, $P_2O_5;2.31kg$, $K_2O;14.86kg$으로서 가리(加里)의 흡수량(吸收量)이 대단히 많았다.

고들빼기 김치의 유기성분(有機成分)(I) - 유이(遊離)아미노산(酸)에 관(關)하여 - (Organic Constituents in Kimchis (Ixeris sonchifolia H.) -On free amino acids-)

  • 고들빼기를 멸치젓으로 김치담금하여 숙성중(熟成中)의 유이(遊離)아미노산(酸)을 분석정량(分析定量)하여 다음과 같은 결과(結果)를 얻었다. 원료(原料) 고들빼기의 잎과 뿌리에서 각각(各各) 8종(種)의 유이(遊離)아미노산(酸)을 정량(定量)하였으며, 뿌리에는 arginine, cystine, glutamic acid, 잎에는 arginine, valine, isoleucine, phenylalanine 등의 함량(含量)이 많았고 특(特)히 arginine은 잎 뿌리 모두 그 함량(含量)이 월등(越等)히 많았다. 총(總) 유이(遊離)아미노산량(酸量)은 잎이 뿌리의 약(約) 2.5배(倍)였다. 고들빼기 김치에서는 잎, 뿌리 모두 총(總) 15 종(種)의 유이(遊離)아미노산(酸)을 검출(檢出) 정량(定量)하였으며 잎, 뿌리 모두 threonine, glutamic acid, alanine, leucine, cystine의 함량(含量)이 많았다. 총(總) 유이(遊離)아미노산량(酸量)은 김치 잎이 9435.6mg%, 뿌리는 7079.1mg%로서 잎이 약(約) 5배(倍) 뿌리가 약(約) 11배(倍)로서 원료(原料)에 비(比)해 많은 증가(增加)를 보였다. 김치 액즙(液汁)에서는 총(總) 16종(種)의 유이(遊離)아미노산(酸)을 정량(定量)하였으며 그 중(中) threonine, glutamic acid alanine, cystine, leucine 등의 함량(含量)이 많았다.

분얼형(分蘖型) 옥수수에 있어서 Source와 Sink의 관계(關係) (Relationship Between Sources and Sinks in Tillering Maize, Zea mays L.)

  • 형태적(形態的)으로 서로 다른 두 교잡종(交雜種) 옥수수의 물질(物質) 생산성(生産性) 형질(形質)(source)에 대한 저장(貯藏) 수용능력(受容能力)(sink)효과를 비교하고자 대조구(對照區)인 무처리(無處理)를 포함하여 전체엽(全體葉) 제거구, 첫째이삭 절위(節位)의 상위엽(上位葉) 제거구, 첫째이삭 절위(節位)의 하위엽(下位葉) 제거구, 첫째이삭만 제거구등 5개 처리에 대한 생육특성(生育特性) 및 종실중(種實重)에 미치는 효과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 간장(肝腸)은 두 공시 교잡종(交雜種) 모두 무처리(無處理)에서 가장 컸으나 기타 처리간에는 큰 차이가 없었다. 2. 엽중(葉重)은 상위엽제거구(上位葉除去區)와 하위엽제거구(下位葉除去區)에서 분얼형(分蘖型)이나 무분얼형(無分蘖型) 모두 같은 수준이었으나 교잡종간에는 분얼형(分蘖型)의 엽중(葉重)이 무분얼형(無分蘖型)보다 5-10g정도가 많았으며, 줄기무게 엽중(葉重)과 비슷한 경향이었다. 4. 공시종 모두가 입중(粒重)은 무처리에 비해 낮았는데 특히 무처리에 비해 상위엽(上位葉) 제거구가 60%정도 낮았고 하위엽(下位葉)제거구는 40%정도가 낮았는데 분얼형(分蘖型) 보다는 무분얼형(無分蘖型)의 옥수수에서 입중(粒重)의 감소가 켰다. 5. 분산분석(分散分析) 결과 줄기중(重)과 입중(粒重)은 교장종간에 큰 차이를 보였고, 처리간(處理間), 교잡종(交雜種)과 처리간(處理間) 상호작용(相互作用)에 있어서는 조사된 모든 특성(特性)에서 유의성(有意性)이 인정 되었다. 6. 전체(全體) 건물중(乾物重)에 대한 각 부위별(部位別) 기여도(寄與度)를 보면 무처리에서는 입중(粒重), 엽중(葉重), 줄기중(重) 순(順)으로 나타났고 상위엽(上位葉)제거구는 줄기중(重), 엽중(葉重), 입중(粒重) 순(順)이었는데 비해 하위엽(下位葉)제거구는 입중(粒重)의 기여(寄與)가 매우 컸으며 다음은 엽중(葉重)과 줄기무게가 같은 수준으로 나타났다.

Ginsenoside Content of North American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L. Araliaceae) in Relation to Plant Development and Growing Locations

  • North American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) was analysed for total ginsenosides and ten major ginsenosides (R$_{0}$ , Rb$_1$, Rb$_2$, Rc, Rd, Re, Rf, Rg$_1$, pseudoginsenoside F$_{11}$ and gypenoside XVII), and variations in ginsenoside content with age of plant (over a four-year-period) and geographic location (Ontario versus British Columbia) were investigated. In the roots the total ginsenoside content increased with age up to 58-100 mgㆍg$^{-1}$ dry weights in the fourth year, but in leaves it remained constant over time. Roots and leaves, moreover, had different proportions of individual ginsenosides. The most abundant ginsenosides were Rb$_1$ (56mgㆍg$^{-1}$ for Ontario; 37mgㆍg$^{-1}$ for British Columbia) and Re (21mgㆍg$^{-1}$ for Ontario; 15 mgㆍg$^{-1}$ for British Columbia) in roots, and Rd (28-38 mgㆍg$^{-1}$ ), Re (20-25 mgㆍg$^{-1}$ ), and Rb$_2$ (13-19 mgㆍg$^{-1}$ ) in leaves. Measurable quantities of Rf were found in leaves (0.4-1.8 mgㆍg$^{-1}$ ) but not in roots or stems. Our results show that ginsenoside profiles in general, and Rf in particular, could be used for chemical fingerprinting to distinguish the different parts of the ginseng plant, and that ginseng leaves could be valuable sources of the ginsenosides Rd, Re, and Rb$_2$.

Clitoria ternatea L. as a Potential High Quality Forage Legume

  • Samples of Clitoria ternatea L. (Cunh$\tilde{a}$) were harvested at 35, 50, 70, and 90 d after a uniformity harvest in a field study designed as a completely randomized design with a total of 18 experimental plots. The dry matter yield of the whole plant was separated quantitatively into leaves, stems, and pods at each harvesting age. Chemical analyses and in vitro gas production kinetics were performed to assess the quality of the plant parts. Yields, chemical composition, and estimates of gas production parameters were analyzed by fitting a mixed statistical model with two types of covariance structures as follows: variance components and an unrestricted structure with heterogeneous variances. Fast and slow gas yielding pools were detected for both leaves and stems, but only a single pool was detected for pods. The homoscedasticity assumption was more likely for all variables, except for some parameters of the gas production kinetics of leaves and stems. There was no presence of typical pods at 35 and 50 d. In the leaves, the fibrous fractions were affected, whereas the non-fibrous fractions were unaffected by the harvesting age. The harvesting age affected the majority of the chemical constituents and gas kinetic parameters related to the stems. The leaves of this legume were the least affected part by the aging process.

차광처리가 더덕의 광합성율과 생육에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Shading Treatments on Photosynthetic rate and Growth in Codonopsis lanceloata Trautv.)

  • 차광처리가 더덕의 생육 및 광합성에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 본 실험을 수행하였던 바, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 차광처리에 의하여 만장과 엽면적은 증가하였으나, 덩굴 및 잎의 건물증은 감소하였다. 2. 차광처리에 의하여 엽록소함량 및 비엽면적은 증가하였으나, 엽위별 일정한 경향이 없었고 상위엽보다는 하위엽에서그 증가 정도가 컸다. 3. 광합성속도와 기공전도도는 광 강도가 강할수록 또 차광일수가 경과할수록 증가하는 경향이었으며 그 증가 정도는 대체로 하위엽에서 크게 나타났다.

편백나무 잎 추출액을 이용한 천연염색포의 항생제 내성균주에 대한 항균성 (Antibacterial Function of Fabrics Dyed with Extract from Chamaecyparis obtusa Leaves against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)

  • Bacteria exist everywhere and continuously come into contact with daily surroundings and humans. Super bacterium methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, resistant to methicillin, has recently appeared. The morbidity and rate of death associated with super bacteria infection has increased. This study investigated the antibacterial activity of fabrics naturally dyed with Chamaecyparis obtusa leaves extract against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Fabrics were left for 15 min in a natural dyeing solution prepared by extraction from C. obtusa leaves using 11.3% (o.w.f) with a fixed liquor ratio of 1:22 at $40^{\circ}C$. The dyeing process was conducted using three different mordants; subsequently, the K/S value of the dyed fabrics increased in the order of None < Cu < Fe < Al. The color fastness property of the fabrics to washing, dry-cleaning, and rubbing was found to be excellent and ranked in the 4-5 grade. The color fastness to light of natural dyeing is low in most cases and has the problem that the dye color soon becomes bleached. Yet, in most cases cloth dyed with retinispora leaves, the color fastnezz to light was good with a third to fourth grade. Non-mordant fabrics, aluminum mordants, and copper mordants also showed better antibacterial properties (99.9% reduction) against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, compared to the control fabrics. The dyed fabrics showed the same antibacterial activity even after three washes. The results highlight the strong potential of fabrics naturally dyed with C. obtusa-extract as a medicinal material with excellent antibacterial function against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
