A large portion of the embedded system development process involves the integration of hardware and software. Unfortunately, communication across the hardware/software boundary is tedious and error-prone to create. This paper presents an automatic hardware/software interface generation system. As the front-end of hardware/software co-design frameworks, a system designer defines XML specifications for hardware functions. Our system generates hardware/software interfaces including Device Driver, Driver API, and Device Controller from these specifications. Embedded software designers can easily use hardware just like system libraries. Our system reduces the mistakes and errors that can be occurred when a software programmer directly connects software to hardware, and supports balancing labors between hardware developers and software programmers. Moreover, this system can be used as the back-end for a hardware/software co-design framework.

We studied the technique which can control the real system without additional hardware drivers using virtual machine driver operated on the windows operating system. We showed the feasibility of the proposed scheme under the error and the delay of a sampling time on the multi task processing through the load test of the experiment using graphic user interface.
We propose a signaling circuit that can reduce power consumption and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) controller-to-source driver interface. The proposed signaling circuit consists of a coder/decoder that can minimize temporal bit transitions in a transmission line and a current-mode driver that can convert voltage swing into a very small amount of current. We have simulated the proposed signaling circuit using the HSPICE and the proposed signaling circuit has been designed in a 0.25 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

Haptic device is regarded as the human machine interface technology for easier, more accurate, and intuitive operation. The purpose of this study is to define driver's affection on the haptic device in terms of its design factor : the color of haptic lighting as independent factor. This paper is studied to improve the cognitive ability of existing vehicle haptic device used by only a tactile feedback. On the color feedback usability evaluation, the lmino haptic device is used by adding color feedback to the existing vehicle haptic device. The emotional factor that driver has on the haptic device is extracted by the sensibility analysis. As a result, it is possible to suggest the design direction that satisfies the driver.
In this paper, we propose a PC's self-monitoring system for protecting illegal outflow of important personal files, which are managed in the Windows environment PC. This paper is based on the idea that it should be a read (access) file operation in order to outflow files through the network. To compare the information (name, some content) obtained from all operations of the reading of the 'Windows File System Driver' and captured transmission packets of mini port of 'Windows NDIS (Network Driver Interface Specification) Driver', and, if two pieces of information match, this system will determine the transmission to user. In this paper, tentatively, we developed a function to gather file information about file read operation and developed a function for transmission packet capture. This demonstration implementation showed that the proposed process has validity and the proposed process verified that it does not significantly affect the PC's performance.

CNS (Car Navigation System) is the most compatible candidate among various in-vehicle information systems as a provider of ITS (Intelligence Transport Systems) information. It generally consists of remote controller, display, CD-changer, GPS receiver and so on. Among them, display is the most important and critical element of the HMI (Human-Machine Interface) suggesting the digital map to the driver. Therefore, it is certain that the display gives cognitive, physical, mental and visual workloads to the driver which are directly related with the driver's and road safety with the success of ITS. Until now, various human factors techniques have been developed and applied to estimate the driver's workload and to collect the driver's requirements of the CNS digital map, for example, mental workload assessment, visual activity analysis, cognitive analysis and so on. In addition to these kinds of techniques, this research performed the human sensibility ergonomics approach to directly investigate and evaluate the driver's requirements and sensibilities of the real products.
The aim of this research was to compare driver's workload among AHS (Automate Highway Systems) road sections in a virtual AHS environment that is based on a re Korean expressway in order to predict and compare the workloads imposed by the change (driver-vehicle interface and vehicle control authority. Road sections included the M (Manual Lane), TL1 (Transition Lane to enter the automated lane), AL (Automated Lane TL2 (Transition Lane to enter the manual lane after the end of automated driving), an post-AHS manual lane.

Recently, the automotive technology has developed with electronics and information technology as convergence technology while vehicles had been regarded as machines. Moreover, vehicles are becoming more intelligent and safer devices, assembly of advanced technologies by customers' demand. Even though all of installations of vehicle have attracted as diverting devices, it cause drivers' mistakes like delay of response on traffic condition. Here, we proposed the Field Operational Test (FOT) environment which could be used as driving and road conditions collector(Vehicle motion, Traffic condition, Driver input, Driver state, etc.) for researches about Driver Friendly Intelligent System(SCC, LDWS, etc.), Human Vehicle Interface(Driving Workload, etc.) and Economic Drive Model. Furthermore driving patten and fuel consumption patten of drivers were analyzed by measured data and direction of future research was suggested.
Despite its superior braking performance to conventional vehicles on test tracks, the performance of the ABS-equipped car seems disappointing on real highway. The poor braking performance results from questionable design of the human-machine interface(HMI) of the brake system. Force-displacement relation at the brake pedal has a strong effect on the braking performance. Recently developed brake-by-wire (BBW) system may allow us to tailor the force feel at the brake pedal. This study aims at exploring analytical ways of designing human-machine interface of BBW system. In this paper, mathematical models of brake pedal feel for electro-hydraulic BBW (EH-BBW) system are developed, and the braking motion and the characteristics of the driver's leg action are modeled. Based on the dynamic characteristics of the brake pedal and the driver, two new HMI designs for EH-BBW system are proposed. In the designs, BBW system is modeled as a type of master-slave teleoperator. The effectiveness of the proposed designs is investigated using driving simulation.
This paper deals with the design and implementation of an Ethernet-based communication protocol to be used in PC-based I/O interface systems. Recently, the performance of PC systems is being highly improved and Ethernet is used as the stable communication network over the world. We develop a new protocol driver with the capability of accessing Ethernet directly using NDIS(Network Driver Interface Specification), the network interface standard of Windows O.S. in PC, and install it at the application layer of the protocol structure. Its major roles are the supplement of CSMA/CD algorithm, the effective use of the long data frame of Ethernet, and the real-time transmission of data frames. This paper represents the possibility of the real-time control network and systems based on PCs and Ethernet.
