The design of driver's cab includes the structure of cab frame, the layout of driver's cab equipment and facilities, i.e. driver's desk, seat, windows, floor, interior equipment, cab partition etc. The concept applied to the detail design has to be based on the ergonomics to guarantee the safety, comfort, and easy operation for the driver. In the aspect of manufacture, one more factor 'modulization' has to be considered into the design of sub blocks for cost-down. The design has to be implemented in the space allocated for driver's cab, which space is directly determined by the cab frame, optimized for the layout of driver's cab. The design process and results of the driver's cab for KHST will be described in this paper.
Driver's cab shall be designed ergonomically to provide the comfort for a driver to gather the information from the equipments and to operate the equipments effectively. The typical three design factors effected on the comfort are the access of driver's cab, freedom of movement inside the cabs and visibility condition. All control equipments shall be arranged so that those which are most often used or are of critical importance are the most convenient to the driver. The layout of driver's cab shall maximize the use of available space to be rugged and easily maintained. The visibility for the running direction along the track shall be secured. The visibility condition apply the seating position of the driver. Not only the environment condition(temperature, humidity, rattle, etc) but also the construction of driver's cab can be ergonomic design factor.
Because a driver is located in the front end of KHST, he is most likely to be insured at collision accidents. So, it is very important to design some survival space for the driver. To evaluate the driver's safety of KHST (Korean High Speed Train), the front structure of power car is analysed using PAMCRASH under the SNCF accident scenario(collision against a movable rigid mass 15 ton at 110㎞/h). Because the driver's cab of KHST is a modified version of TGV-K, which is not so strong as to protect him, it turns out to be inadequate to guarantee his survival space. Therefore it is recommended to redesign the driver's cab in a crashworthy point of view like the case of TGV-Duplex or NEC.
Seoul Metro has been continuously growing after its foundation on August 15, 1974 and is currently acting the leading role in the city transportation which is now used by 4,130 thousand people (as of early 2011) on a daily average. The number of the electric rail cars also increased significantly from 60 cars at the time of foundation to 1,954. And the types of the cars also started and operated with the rheostatic control cars in the 70s to the chopper control cars in the 80s and VVVF control cars in the 90s. But the control devices of the driver's cabs haven't been accustomed to the drivers because of it's diversity. Therefore, This study carried out the survey for the preferences of control devices from the incumbent drivers at Seoul Metro. And we analyzed it and suggest a method for standardization of it's locating and naming the major control devices in the driver's cab as the consideration of their preference for it's efficiency, safety, and convenience.
A Consider the dead man's switch installed in each and every locomotive cab, which support operational safety on railways around the world. The concept is very simple - every 150 to 180 seconds an illuminated push-button demands to be acknowledged so as to know that the Train Driver is alive and active. In the absence of a response over a period of minutes, the vigilance control will automatically apply the train brakes and bring the train to a stand. If we multiply the resetting of the vigilance control 60 times per hour by a 10-hour shift it equals 600 presses of the button during the shift that a Train Driver must pay attention to and acknowledge. This adds a fair bit of pressure on the train driver's job, particularly when he/she is driving through stations, with passengers moving about on platforms in an environment of complex signaling arrangements - all the while looking out for restricting signals. From this perspective, the Vigilance System's demand to be acknowledged every 150/180 seconds is disturbing and can unnecessarily take a driver's attention away from what is happening outside the confines of the cab. A much more dramatic situation can happen when a train driver is driving hour after hour at night when, by Mother's Nature request - people need to sleep. Experience and research shows that the the dead man's switch can be pressed by train driver in a state of deep relaxation and 'micro-sleep'. The vigilance control system which is applied to reduce the drive load considering bio-response multiple unit train is proposed.
This study is about the design and analysis ot a suspension damper for truck driver's seat to improve the ride comfort. Trucks are usually subjected to hostile driving environments. Therefore, many truck driver's seat have suspension seats to isolate the vibration from the cab floor panel. Because the vehicle suspension system can reduce the primary vibration from the ground, only low frequency vibration can be transmitted to the driver's seat. But, this low frequency vibration can be harmful to the driver. The seat damper is very critical element to improve the ride comfort for the driver. In this study, a four-stage damper is designed and analyzed for the vibration capability. The damping coefficient of this damper can lie manually controlled in response to the road and driving environment.
This paper introduced the appearance characteristics of the cab mask & telescopic handrail arms for the New Zealand EMU to be applied with inter-city transportation in 2010. The appearance characteristics are improvements of driver's sightline, implementation of safety zone of gangway plate by using the telescopic handrail arms, improvements of staff & female crew & ground crew's convenience. and also, during have looking the New Zealand EMU(Electric Multiple Unit), I hope that people who having the interesting of the cab mask design would be gotten help with basic knowledge.
A study on the static type simulator will include an instructor's station, two cabs for ISA with visual and sound system, and realistic and accurate model of the trains operation. The simulator is easy to extend and maintenance using structured the S/W. The training of new drives requires that the environment of the cab, controls placement, etc. must highly realistic so that driver can readily transfer his training experience to the real world. The simulator detailed software model and extensive scenario design capability allows both for a wide variety of scenarios and accurately modeled response covering most aspects of brakes, rules, and faults.
There are many EMU lines in korea. But only one type has been applied to passenger side door. This type is so called "Pocket sliding type". This type has some week points. To begin with, it is not good for decreasing the noisy form the outside of carbody. And the second time, if some obstacles are put between sliding door, only driver can operate re-open door switch manually ill driver's cab. This type is so dangerous for passengers. So many people want to the new door type that have no defect. KRRI joined forces with ANT corporation for pneumatic plug door system. This type will be good for decreasing the noisy, passenger′s safe. The project was started at the last year on November and will be finished on June, this year In this paper, we will deal with the role of cylinder, planetary gear, door control unit, dynamic mechanism, and the report of FEM, type test. This paper will contribute to tile electric motor control plug door system.
