Two different designs of permanent magnet motors as direct wheel-set drive for the German high speed train ICE 3 are designed, one with surface mounted magnets (SM) and one with buried rotor magnets (BM). The surface magnet motor has $17\%$ less mass and a slightly higher efficiency and was therefore chosen for further investigations. Compared with the conventional drive system of the ICE 3, consisting of geared inverter fed induction machines, the gearless permanent magnet direct drive yields about $16\%$ lower losses. This calculation is based on the route parameters of the high speed track between Frankfurt/Main and Cologne in Germany, which is currently under construction.

An axle drive shaft with double joint shaft, cross kit and yoke has an important role by transferring power and changing steering angle between axle and wheel in power train system. It has been used widely in the heavy machinery requiring a high reliability in the power train system. At fatigue failures of the axle drive shaft with the long span, a relatively high stress concentration at a snap ring groove on the drive shaft brings to significant fatigue damages under repeated loading condition. As Peterson's suggestions on this study, a relief groove in the vicinity of the snap ring groove is applied by decreasing the stress concentration and improving the fatigue life of axle drive shaft. By using FEM analysis, the decreasing effect of the stress concentration and extended fatigue life are due to the change of design parameters related with size and location of the relief groove. The relief groove with the design parameters such as d/b=2.0 and r/h=1.2 enables to decrease the stress concentration of 22.3% and increase the fatigue life more than 3 times by comparing with no relief groove application.
Urban Transit Train Radio is Radio Communication system that is used official business as leading motive for train safety running among the train crew and the central control center and drive-caring-chamber on main line and branch line. This system is operated that organizes talking path on handset of terminal after the train crew receives audio and understands call voice on speaker of terminal at calling the train of the central control center. When the central control center calls the specific train uses all call radio form, the train crew doesn't recognize the call cause the train situation, noise and action as train control. So there is a delay response cause reset call at the central control center. This research discusses the management of subway radio system and describes the call the train system that recognize train call number of all-call used between the central control center and the train crew.

Research on Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) train is currently being conducted in Korea, concerning Urban Transit (110 km/h of maximum speed), semi-high-speed (200 km/h of maximum speed), and high-speed (550 km/h of maximum speed) trains. This paper presents a research study on the levitation and guidance systems for the Korean semi-high-speed maglev train. A levitation electromagnet was designed, and the need for a separate guidance system was analyzed. A guidance electromagnet to control the lateral displacement of the train and ensure its stable operation was then also designed, and its characteristics were analyzed. The dynamic performance of the designed levitation and guidance electromagnets was modeled and analyzed, using a linearized modeling of the system equations of motion. Lastly, a test setup was prepared, including manufactured prototypes of the designed system, and the validity of the design was verified and examined with performance evaluation tests.
In the previous research, dynamic results have been analyzed in the time and frequency regions. Time and frequency region can be transformed by the Fourier transform. This transform is very useful about analyzing system behaviors. However, because of coupling, it cannot give clear results in the real system including lots of defects. In this paper, we introduced the analysis based on quefrency region to represent physical means clearly from complicated results. We simulated the drive train system which has defects, and compared between frequency and quefrency region to show its excellence. To do this process, We established mathematical model. The equation of motion was derived by the Lagrange equation and constraint equations. The constraint equation included relationships about gear mesh, flexibility of shaft. About numerical analysis, the Newmark beta method was used to get results. And FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) which converts results from time domain to frequency, qufrequency was used.

This study investigated the problems in current practice of drive-train resonance analysis procedure and suggested solutions. The first problem is the resonance occurrence at the un-identified resonance point by the current practice, as for a solution the force spectrum analysis for each critical force transmitting component was suggested. The second one is the inaccurate estimation of potential resonance point in eigenfrequency analysis because of the non-consideration about the eigenfrequency dependency on rotor-speed, the fine linearization at each rotor speed point all over operational range was proposed to account for the affection. Lastly the insufficient time for resonance activation under run-up simulation condition was recognized as a problem in resonance load increasing analysis, as an alternative, steady state condition was suggested to estimate the maximum load increasing level.

In this paper power system and drive-train for omni-directional autonomous mobile robots with multiple energy storage units are presented. Because in proposed system, which is implemented in soccer robots, the ability of power flow control from of multiple separated energy storage units and speed control for each motor are combined, these robots can be derived by more than one power source. This capability, allow robot to diversify its energy source by employing hybrid power sources. In this research Lithium ion polymer batteries have been used for main and auxiliary energy storage units because of their high power and energy densities. And to protect them against deep discharge, over current and short circuit, a protection circuit was designed. The other parts of our robot power system are DC-DC converters and kicker circuit. The simulation and experimental results show proposed scheme and extracted equations are valid and energy management and speed control can be achieved properly using this method. The filed experiments show robot mobility functions to perform the requested motion is enough and it has a high maneuverability in the field.
This paper describes a reference flux angle selection for a vector control in the parallel operation system that consists of a inverter and several induction motors. In particular, this paper suggests which flux angle of motors prefers for the vector control in the train drive system that diameters of wheels are different. Through simulation for a 210[kW] induction motor drive system, it is clear that the vector control by using of the flux angle of a motor having a minimum wheel diameter leads to a minimum torque difference. However, it requires too many current sensors. So, it is shown that the vector control by a average flux angle of motors is preferable.
