  • Conventional robot manipulators actuated by motors with the speed reducer such as the harmonic drive have weakness in the load capacity, since the speed reducer does not have enough strength. To overcome this, a new type of the robot actuator based on the four-bar-link mechanism driven by the ball screw was proposed and constructed. Also, a new type of a revolute-jointed robot manipulator composed of the developed actuators was developed. The base axis is actuated by the motor with the conventional speed reducer, but the other axes are actuated by the proposed actuators. The kinematics and dynamics of the robot were analyzed, and the performance test of the robot was made. Through the test results, the performance of superior load capacity versus the robot weight is shown.

  • There are many benefits such as increased areal density, reduced power consumption, applied smaller size and improved shock resistance in Load/Unload(L/UL) mechanism. It has been the key technology of developing small form factor hard disk drive used in portable digital devices. The main objectives of L/UL are no slider-disk contact and faster L/UL process. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL systems. In this paper, we focus on the effects of ramp profile. We can investigate dynamic characteristics of suspension tap and slider on ramp during unloading process experimentally. In special, we examine the effects of vortical velocities, ramp slopes and disk vibrations. As the result of these experiments, we propose design criteria of advanced ramp profile for good unloading performance.

  • We propose a high speed data communication method for motor drive systems with fast control cycle in order to collect state variables of motor control without degrading control performance. Ethernet is chosen for communication device, and multi-core DSP architecture is exploited for communication processing load distribution. The communication program including network protocol stack and motor control program are assigned to two separate cores, and data between two cores are exchanged using interrupt-based inter-process communication mechanism, which enables to achieve a high-speed communication performance without degrading the motor control performance. The performance of developed communication method is demonstrated by real experiments using TCP, UDP and Raw Socket protocols in an experimental setup consisting of TI's TMS320F28388D motor control card and MS Windows PC.

  • In this report, we summarize recent progress in the development of electrolyte-gated transistors (EGTs) for various printed electronics. EGTs, employing a high capacitance electrolyte as gate dielectric layer in transistors, exhibits increasing of drive current, lowering operation voltage, and new transistor architectures. While the use of electrolytes in electronics goes back to the early days of silicon transistors, the new printable, fast-responsive polymer electrolytes are expanding their range of applications from printable and flexible digital circuits to various neuromorphic devices. This report introduces the structure and operating mechanism of EGT and reviews key developments in electrolyte materials used in printed electronics. Additionally, we will look at various applications with EGTs that are currently underway.

  • An actuator using a permanent magnet and solenoid is proposed and designed in this paper. Its design concept is composed of a driving force generation, a guide mechanism, and a symmetric structure. At first, Driving Force generation uses a concept that is a change efflux by using a permanent magnet and solenoid. A permanent flux is generated by a permanent magnet. Changeable flux is created by a variable current flowing through coil such the solenoid. The direction of this flux is changed due to current flowing through coils. The combination of permanent and changeable fluxes make various flux densities between yokes of moving part and fixed yokes. And then, the flux densities create forces(F), which are used to drive this actuator, in lower and upper gap. In this actuator ...

  • We have investigated the variation of dwell and warm-up time for effects of positioning accuracy of the CNC machine tools with an laser measuring system. Also, we strdied the effect of improvement of the positioning accuracy by variation of the temperature for hollow ball screw, which mostly used as drive mechanism of CNC machine tools. We dbtained the effectiveness of cooling effect of the new cooling system, compared with the conventional cooling system.

  • Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, which express a synthetic receptor engineered to target specific antigens, have demonstrated remarkable potential to treat haematological malignancies. However, their transition beyond haematological malignancy has so far been unsatisfactory. Here, we discuss recent challenges and improvements for CAR T cell therapy against solid tumors: Antigen heterogeneity which provides an effective escape mechanism against conventional mono-antigen-specific CAR T cells; and the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment which provides physical and molecular barriers that respectively prevent T cell infiltration and drive T cell dysfunction and hypoproliferation. Further, we discuss the application of CAR T cells in infectious disease and autoimmunity.

  • Atrial fibrillation is characterized by beat to beat irregularity of shape, size, conduction time and polarity. The mechanism of atrial fibrillation can be explained by so called "Multiple wavelet theory". The adverse effect of atrial fibrillation is the decrease of cardiac output by absence of atrial kick[10 ~ 15%] and the possibility of thrombosis in the left atrium which is dangerous to develop the thromboembolism is increased. The present study was designed to assess the effect of overdrive pacing on the suppression of recurring of atrial fibrillation after open heart surgery and the results were summarized as follows: 1. There were no significant differences of factors between converting patients and non-converting patients to normal sinus rhythm by electric cardioversion after open heart surgery. 2. Among converting patients to normal sinus rhythm, there were no significant differences of factors between study group and control group. 3. Cardiothoracic Ratio on the preoperative chest film was significantly larger in the patients of recurring atrial fibrillation within 72hrs than in the patients of maintaining normal sinus rhythm. [61.7$\pm$ 1.4% vs 67.7$\pm$2.4%, p=0.03] 4. There was a significant difference of suppressive effects between overdrive pacing group and control group among recurred cases until 24, 48, and 72hours [Fisher`s exact test ; p=0.037, p=0.076, p=0.53, respectively] 5. There was a difference of the delay of recurring of atrial fibrillation between study group and control group among recurred cases within 72 hours.[53.4$\pm$6.9hr vs. 19.3$\pm$3.8 hr, p<0.01] We think that the overdrive pacing may suppress the natural pacemaker and the converted normal sinus rhythm is maintained longer than control group during critical immediate postoperative period.ve period.

  • SRM drives generate large vibration and acoustic noise because it is rotated by step pulse mmf and switching commutation mechanism. The main vibration source of SRM drive is generated by rapidly variation of radial force when phase winding current is extinguished for commutation action. So the rapidly variation of radial force is repressed firstly to reduce vibrating force of SRM drive. This paper suggests an SRM excitation scheme using unidirect-short compensation winding to reduce vibration of the motor. The motor is excited by a two stage commutation method during commutation period. This paper suggests an SRM excitation scheme using unidirect-short compensation winding to reduce vibration of the motor. The motor is excited by a tow stage commutation method during commutation period. This reduction effect of vibration is verified with the result obtained in the test of prototype machine.
