Numerical Investigation of Contamination Particle's Trajectory in a Head/slider Disk Interface (헤드/디스크 인터페이스 내에서 오염 입자의 거동에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • Microcontamination caused by particle deposition on the head disk interface threatens the reliability of hard disk drive. Design of slider rail to control contamination becomes an important issue in magnetic recording. In this paper, how particles adhere to the slider and the disk is examined. To investigate accumulation mechanism of the particles, trajectory of the particles in a slider/disk interface is simulated with considering various forces including drag force, gravitational force, Saffman lift force, and electrostatic force. It is found that the charged particles can easily adhere to the slider or disk surface, if an electric field exists between the slider and the disk. It is supposed that the vertical motion of the particles should be related with not only Saffman force but also electrostatic force.

Modeling & Control of a Multi-Joint Robot actuated by the Ball Screw (볼나사 구동기를 이용한 다관절 로봇의 모델링 및 제어)

  • Conventional robots actuated by motors with the speed reducer such as harmonic drive had weakness in delivering loads, pressing, grinding, and cutting jobs. To overcome this, the developer a new type of robot actuated by the ball screw. The robot is an articulated shape, which is composed of four axes. The base axis is actuated similarly with conventional robot, but the others are actuated by four bars mechanism composed of the ball screw. We setup the dynamics model of the robot. The robot has parameter uncertainties and nonlinearlity due to the ball screw actuator. To coordinate the robot, we applied sliding-mode control.

Contact Stress of Slewing Ring Bearing with External Pinwheel Gear Set (핀 휠을 구비한 외륜형 선회베어링의 면압강도)

  • The pin-gear drive is a special form of fixed-axle gear mechanism. A large wheel with cylindrical pin teeth is called a pinwheel. As pinwheels are rounded, they have a simple structure, easy processing, low cost, and easy overhaul compared with general gears. They are also suitable for low-speed, heavy-duty mechanical transmission and for occasions with more dust, poor lubrication, etc. This paper introduces a novel slewing ring bearing with an external pinwheel gear set (e-PGS). First, we consider the exact cam pinion profile of the e-PGS with the introduction of a profile shift. Then, the contact stresses are investigated to determine the characteristics of the surface fatigue by varying the shape design parameters. The results show that the contact stresses of the e-PGS can be lowered significantly by increasing the profile shift coefficient.

  • This paper deals with a moving coil type linear motor for fast access of the miniature ODD. This slim-line motor is composed of the mover supported by guide mechanism, the coil wound into it, and the yoke attached to the permanent magnet for stator. The driving force is generated by the PM of the stator and the current in the coil of the mover. Magnetic circuit analysis and Finite Element Method are applied to estimate force at air gap.   • This paper presents an improved escalator dynamic model so as to reflect the experimental observation on the pseudo-resonance affected by load applied. The experimental evidence reveals that backlash of gearbox as well as sag of driving chain are most critical factors to the pseudo-resonance in escalators. The dynamic model effectively reflects vibration characteristics measured in real escalators with respect to different conditions of driving chain and the number of passengers. (omitted)

  • For high density optical storage, there should be a high NA objective lens and a shorter wavelength laser diode. To secure the disc tilt margin related to the coma aberration, moreover, it's difficult to apply the tilt compensation mechanism into the portable PC. In this paper, we proposed the 3-axis asymmetry pickup actuator with high efficiency symmetric magnetic circuit, which consisted of the top cover type inner yoke for high magnetic flux density, the coil stack unit for the 3-axis independent operation and vertically polarized magnets.   • Linear motors can drive a linear motion without intermediate gears, screws or crank shafts. Linear motors can successfully replace ball lead screw in machine tools because they have a high velocity, acceleration and good positioning accuracy. On the other hand, linear motors emit large amounts of heat and have low efficiency. In this paper, heat sources of a synchronous linear motor with high velocity and force measured and analyzed. To improve the thermal characteristics of the linear motor, an insulation layer with low thermal conductivity is inserted between cooler and machine table. Some effects of the insulation layer are presented.

  • This paper presents new cutting force measuring system for milling process. Usually, tool dynamometer is the most appropriate measuring tool in an analysis of cutting mechanism. High price and limited space, however, make it difficult to be in-situ system for controllable milling process. Although an alternative using AC current of servomotor has been suggested, it is unsuitable for cutting force control because of low bandwidth and noise. We suggest new cutting force measuring system, using two load cell placed between moving table and nut of ballscrew, and modelled on the system statically and dynamically. And to verify the accuracy of the proposed system, a series of carefully conducted experiments were carried out. Experiment results show that models are in reasonably good agreement with the experiment data.

  • This paper presents the development and balancing control of GYROBO, a one wheeled mobile robot system. GYROBO is a disc type one wheel mobile robot that has three actuators, a drive motor, a spin motor, and a tilt motor. The dynamics and kinematics of GYROBO are analyzed, and simulation studies conducted. A one-wheeled robot, GYROBO is built and its balancing control is performed. Experimental studies of GYROBO's balancing abilities are conducted to demonstrate the gyroscopic effects generated by the spin and tilt angles of a flywheel.

  • This paper addresses the design and implementation problem of the mobile robot with the synchronous driving mechanism that consists of modular control systems based on the Universal Serial Bus (USB). Recently, the USB have attracted the hardware developers'interests due to its low cost, compatibility, and extenability. In particular, the USB enables us to organize the whole system in the modular manner very easily, and this property plays a very important role in shortening the developing time in implementing the target system, for example, the mobile robot system. In this paper, we implement the USB motion controller and the USB ultrasonic sensor system and verified the validity and the effectiveness of the proposed system through the real experiments including the mobile robot navigation and the environment recognition.
