An experimental research was performed using fibers for the purpose of retrofitting existing reinforced concrete circular columns. Glass fiber (GF) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were used as well as combined GF+PET (HF). PET has high tensile strength (over 600 MPa) and high ductility (about 15%), but has very low elastic modulus (about 1/6 of GF). A total of four columns was tested against laterally applied reverse cyclic load: control column, GF-, PET-, and HF-strengthened columns. All columns retrofitted using fibers demonstrated improved moment capacity and ductility. Moment capacity of GF-, PET-, and HF-strengthened columns was 120%, 107%, and 120% of the control column, respectively. Drift ratio of all retrofitted columns also increased by 63 ~ 83% over the control column. The final failure mode of the control column was main bar buckling. The final failure mode of the GF- and HF-strengthened columns was GF rupture while that of the PET-strengthened column was main bar rupture in tension. No damage was observed for PET at the ultimate stage due to excellent strain capacity intrinsic to PET. Current test results indicate that PET can be effectively used for seismic retrofit of RC columns. It is noted that the durability characteristics of PET needs to be investigated in the future.

This study was conducted in order to improvement of fishing gear and fishing operating system for anchovy boat seine by bag net A-type and B-type was attached with half size modified nets. Field experiments were carried out observe geometry of nets by catcher boats. The obtained results are summarized as follows : The actual ratio of net opening in each part of the half size modified nets was increased from fore part to back part of the nets as shown the smallest value about 20% in wing net and the biggest value about 110% in bag net. In addition, vertical net opening of B-type net as measured as 10.9~11.8m in fore bag net and 5.8~8.0m in after bag net were 1~2m greater than 9.0~13.6m of A-type one, and 2~3m less than 9.3~10.4m of A-type one, respectively. Vertical net opening of half size modified net was shown as less variation of towing depth from wing net to inside wing net than those of traditional nets due to stable vertical performance. The mesh distortion or drift and variation of vertical net opening were decreased by improvement of bag nets in order to minimized shape of net pocket phenomenon whenever towing speed is slow. Bag net B-Type attached with dual flapper was shown as less variation in width of bag net and less escapement of anchovy.
Lots of characteristics such as dwelling, neighborhood, and accessibility characteristics affect to the housevalue. Many researches have been done to identify values of each characteristic using hedonic technique. However, there is a limit to identify interaction of each characteristic and variation of each characteristic among the accessibility context. This paper has implemented the Expansion Method research paradigm to model the housevalue determination process in the city of Seoul. The findings of this paper have revealed the presence of contextual variations in the housevalue determination process. The initial model for housevalue reveals that as $F_1$ increases (i.e., larger the number of rooms/bathrooms, larger parking space) and/or $F_2$ increases (i.e., higher owner occupied housing units, higher apartment housing units) and/or $F_3$ increases, (i.e., higher the ratio of higher than college graduated households, 8 school zone, older housing units) the estimated housevalue increases. However, the above relationships drift across their respective contexts. The houses which have negative $F_1$ value, the housevalue does not fluctuate according to the distance to the city center or subcenters. However, the houses which have positive $F_1$ value, the closer to the subcenters or shorter to the river, the higher the estimated housevalues. On the other hand, in areas far from the subcenters, the estimated housevalues does not fluctuate much according to the corresponding $F_2$ level. In areas close to the subcenters, the estimated housevalues vary tremendously according to the $F_2$ value. In the residual analysis, it is revealed that large apartment which are located in Kangnam, IchongDong, MokDong are underestimated. This paper has contributed to our understanding of the housevalue determination process by providing an alternative conceptualization to the traditional approach.

Seismic design of braced frames that simultaneously considers economic issues and structural performance represents a rather complicated engineering problem, and therefore, a systematic and well-established methodology is needed. This study proposes a multi-objective seismic design method for an inverted V-braced frame with suspended zipper struts that uses the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II(NSGA-II). The structural weight and the maximum inter-story drift ratio as the objective functions are simultaneously minimized to optimize the cost and seismic performance of the structure. To investigate which of strength- and performance-based design criteria for braced frames is the critical design condition, the constraint conditions on the two design methods are simultaneously considered (i.e. the constraint conditions based on the strength and plastic deformation of members). The linear static analysis method and the nonlinear static analysis method are adopted to check the strength- and plastic deformation-based design constraints, respectively. The proposed optimal method are applied to three- and six-story steel frame examples, and the solutions improved for the considered objective functions were found.

Masonry infill walls are frequently used as interior partitions and exterior walls in low- or middle- rise RC buildings. In the design and assessment of buildings, the infill walls are usually treated as non-structural elements and they are ignored in analytical models because they are assumed to be beneficial to the structural responses. Therefore, their influences on the structural response are ignored. In the case of buildings constructed in the USA in highly seismic regions, infill walls have a lower strength and stiffness than the boundary frames or they are separated from the boundary frames. Thus, the previously mentioned assumptions may be reasonable. However, these systems are not usually employed in most other countries. Therefore, the differences in the seismic behaviors of RC buildings with/without masonry infill walls, which are ignored in structural design, need to be investigated. In this study, structural analyses were performed for a masonry infilled low-rise RC moment-resisting frame. The infill walls were modeled as equivalent diagonal struts. The seismic behaviors of the RC moment-resisting frame with/without masonry infill walls were evaluated. From the analytical results, masonry infill walls can increase the global strength and stiffness of a structure. Consequently, the interstory drift ratio will decrease but seismic forces applied to the structure will increase more than the design seismic load because the natural period of the structure decreases. Partial damage of the infill walls by the floor causes vertical irregularity of the strength and stiffness.

The other is the enclosed modular system composed of panels and studs. Of the Modular systems, the use of open-sided modular system is limited because it consists of closed member sections. In order to solve this problem, Choi et al.(2017) proposed a composite modular system with folded steel members filled with concrete. However, it was assumed in the previous study that the connections between modules are composed of rigid joint. Therefore it didn't identify the effect of connection behavior in structure. This study used finite element analysis to calculate stiffness of the connections in the proposed modular system. The linearization method presented in FEMA 440 is used for seismic performance assessment of structures, considering the connection stiffness computed in this study. The result of analysis shows that the capacity and story drift ratio obtained in the model considering stiffness of connection are less than those in the model not considering connection stiffness. Based on this observation, it is concluded that the stiffness of connection has a considerable effect on structural behavior.

Middle-rise reinforced concrete residential buildings account for a large portion of the Korea, and structural performance analysis are needed for problems that could occur during the construction of such buildings. Thus, a middle-rise reinforced concrete residential building with 25 stories are selected as a sample model for structural performance analysis. The structural analyses are performed by dividing a sample model into the construction stage models of the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th and 25th floors and the completion stage models with the design completed. For the comparisons of structural performances, Eigenvalue analysis results and lateral-load-resisting capabilities and structural design performances of structural members are analyzed. As a result of analyses, it was confirmed that both the construction and completion stage do not exceed KBC criteria limits at the lateral displacement and story drift ratio, and structural design performances of structural members confirm structural safety in all components except for some members of the wall. Therefore, it was concluded that if structural stability is obtained during the completion stage of a middle-rise reinforced concrete residential building, structural stability is secured under construction.

Openings in steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) are usually used for decorative designs, crossing locations of multiple utilities and/or structural objectives. However, earlier studies showed that generating an opening in an SPSW has a negative effect on the cyclic performance of the SPSW. Therefore, this study proposes tripling or doubling the steel-sheet-plate (SSP) layer and stiffening the opening of the SPSW to provide a solution to undesirable opening effects, improve the SPSW performance and provide the infill option of potential strengthening measures after the construction stage. The study aims to investigate the impact of SSP doubling with a stiffened opening on the cyclic behaviour, expand the essential data required by structural designers and quantify the SPSW performance factors. Validated numerical models were adopted to identify the influence of the chosen parameters on the cyclic capacity, energy dissipation, ductility, seismic performance factors (SPF) and stiffness of the suggested method. A finite Element (FE) analysis was performed via Abaqus/CAE software on half-scale single-story models of SPSWs exposed to cyclic loading. The key parameters included the number of SSP layers, the opening size ratios corresponding to the net width of the SSP, and the opening shape. The findings showed that the proposed assembly method found a negligible influence in the shear capacity with opening sizes of 10, 15, 20%. However, a deterioration in the wall strength was observed for openings with sizes of 25% and 30%. The circular opening is preferable compared with the square opening. Moreover, for all the models, the average value of the obtained ductility did not show substantial changes and the ultimate shear resistance was achieved after reaching a drift ratio of 4.36%. Additionally, the equivalent sectional area of the SSP in the twin and triple configuration of the SPSWs demonstrated approximately similar results. Compared with the single SSP layer, the proposed configuration of the twin SSP layer with a stiffened opening suggest to more sufficiency create SSP openings in the SPSW compared to that of other configurations. Finally, a tabular SPF quantification is exhibited for SPSWs with openings.

In a nuclear power plant (NPP), periodic sensor calibrations are required to assure sensors are operating correctly. However, only a few faulty sensors are found to be calibrated. For the safe operation of an NPP and the reduction of unnecessary calibration, on-line calibration monitoring is needed. In this paper, principal component-based Auto-Associative support vector regression (PCSVR) was proposed for the sensor signal validation of the NPP. It utilizes the attractive merits of principal component analysis (PCA) for extracting predominant feature vectors and AASVR because it easily represents complicated processes that are difficult to model with analytical and mechanistic models. With the use of real plant startup data from the Kori Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3, SVR hyperparameters were optimized by the response surface methodology (RSM). Moreover the statistical techniques are integrated with PCSVR for the failure detection. The residuals between the estimated signals and the measured signals are tested by the Shewhart Control Chart, Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA), Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) and generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) to detect whether the sensors are failed or not. This study shows the GLRT can be a candidate for the detection of sensor drift.
