Variation of Impact Characteristics of ISB Panels with a Pyramidal Inner Structure According to Joining Technologies (피라미드형 내부구조체를 가진 ISB 판넬의 접합형태에 따른 충격 특성 변화)

  • ISB (Inner structured and bonded) panel with a pyramidal inner structure is actively developing to reduce the weight and to improve the crashworthiness of the material. The objective of this paper is to investigate into the variation of impact characteristics of ISB panels with a pyramidal inner structure according to joining types between skin sheets and inner structures. Several drop impact tests have been performed. In order to examine the impact characteristics at a drawing condition, drawing type of experimental set-up has been proposed. From the results of the experiments, the influence of joining types between skin sheets and the inner structures on the characteristics of the deformation, the energy absorption and the failure has been quantitatively examined. In addition, it has been shown that maximum load decreased and the maximum displacement increases as the joining type changes from the bonding to the welding. The results of the observation of the specimen have been shown that major wrinkles form in the minor crimping direction irrespective of the joining types. Through the comparison of the experimental results for bonding and welding specimens, it has been shown that the absorption energy of the bonded specimen is nearly 1.3-1.5 times of the welded specimen at the same displacement.

Effects of Drawing Parameters on Mechanical Properties in High Frequency Induction Welded Tubes of BAS111 Alloy for Heat-exchangers (열교환기용 BAS111합금 고주파유도용접관에서 인발조건이 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the optimum drawing parameter for BAS111 welded tubes. The BAS111 aluminium alloy tubes with 25.4mm in external diameter and 1.5mm in thickness for heat-exchangers were manufactured by high frequency induction welding with the V shaped convergence angle 6.8$^{\circ}$ and power input 50㎾. With increasing the reduction of area (1.6, 5.8, 11.5, 14.2, 18.5, 22.5%) by drawing, tensile strength was increased and elongation was decreased. With increasing the reduction of area by drawing, hardness in weld metal increased rapidly, while that of base metal increased slowly. In the specimen with the outer diameter smaller than 22mm, hardness of weld metal was higher than that of base metal. The optimum drawing parameter of area reduction was estimated about 15% because of the work hardening of welds.

  • Today, the development of digitized information media and info-communications are bringing many changes. Due to the development of IT thechnology, we can learn wherever, whenever, regardless of time and place. Machine drawing subject is a very important in mechanical engineering course, but it's studyed only basic theory in a short period, average 1~2weeks. So that, students think that the mechanical drawing is of minor importance. Such ideas make them difficult to impove sense of space in isometric drawing and drawing skill. Therefore, in this paper, augmented reality-based contents through the system, Mechanical Drawing of education to meet the effectiveness and satisfaction, student learning can be spontaneously it was construct self-system. And, Theoretical part of the Mechanical Drawing is proposed ensure more efficient and easier training. In this paper, we were test operation for user effectualness of proposed service at Korea Polytechnics Colleges a industrial facilities management in Daegu. Target user are 66 students, and The students were divided into experimental group and comparison group. Experimental results, experimental group was able to do systematically experience many Projection Drawing and Pictorial Drawing in short schooltime. And, The test operation results showed that have the possibility to meet education effectiveness and user satisfaction in this augmented reality-based contents system.

A Study on the Mechanical Press Joining of Double Sheet Metals Using Physical Modeling (물리적 모델링법을 이용한 이중 박판의 기계적 접합 공정에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the mechanical joining process for double sheet metals was investigated by using physical modeling method. Process parameters of mechanical joining such as friction coefficient, drawing depth, pouch radius, die radius and material thickness are preliminarily analyzed by finite element method. Referring to the finite element analysis results mechanical joining system is designed on the basis of physical similarities. From the physical modeling test, the effect of process parameters on the deformation for the mechanical joining are experimentally investigated and optimized joining shape that can provide strong joining strength is obtained.

  • A new form-joining process with the aid of an adhesive is proposed in which an epoxy adhesive is applied to a sheet metal pair, and before it cures the pair is clinched to cause the geometric constraint in the form of a protrusion. In order to reduce the forming load and the height of protrusions, a new die and punch set with a very small clearance was devised to reduce the depth of drawing and the forming load. Taguchi method was employed to find the optimal values of design parameters. To implement each case of the orthogonal array, the finite element method was used. The experiments showed that on the tensile-shear test, the bonding strength of the new form-joining process with an epoxy adhesive is approximately the same as that of the resistance spot welding; and in comparison with the other two form-joining processes with an epoxy adhesive, the height of protrusions was reduced by more than 65 percent and the forming load by 50 percent.

  • For the purpose of establishing laser welding condition (laser power, welding speed and beam focus) and of evaluating tailored blanks for two kinds of thin steel sheets SPCC and SK5M using in the thin plate structure such as automobile, train, and so on, investigated their $CO^2$ laser weldability under various initial welding conditions. SPCC thin sheet showed good weldability under some welding conditions. But, high carbon steel sheet SK5M needed heat treatment after welding to obtain ductility of the welded joint. And next, tailored blank was tested through deep drawing to evaluate reliability of their obtained laser welding conditions. The forming depths by tailored blank were SPCC+SPCC=22-25mm and SK5M+SK5M=13-25mm.

  • Metal parts are produced by conventional methods such as casting, forging and cutting, extrusion, etc. However, nowadays, with additive manufacturing (AM), it is possible to directly commercialize by means of stacking of equipment to the 3D drawing and use of high precision tools such as laser source. Thus, drawing of materials is an important aspect in delivering good products. AM deals with production of lighter aircraft parts and few more three-dimensional molds, it wish to manufacture special medical parts and want to steadily expand the new market area. The cost of related equipment and materials are still expensive and difficult to obtain on a mass production. However, the ability to make changes and lead the innovation in the paradigm of traditional manufacturing process is still effective. In this paper, we introduce metal AM and the principles of the related devices, metal powder production process, and their application.

  • The form-joining process (or clinching) uses a set of die and punch to impose the plastic deformation-induced geometric constraint on a sheet metal pair. The joining strength from the process ranges 50-70 percent of that of the resistance spot welding. In this paper, a new form-joining process with the aid of an adhesive is proposed in which an epoxy adhesive is applied to a sheet metal pair, and before it cures the pair is clinched to cause the geometric constraint in the form of a protrusion. Estimation of Fatigue Life in Butt-Welded Zone of SM45C Steel Rod (강 봉(SM45C) 맞대기 용접부의 피로수명 평가)

  • SM45C steel rods being used generally for power transmission shafts and machine components was selected and welded by Butt-GMAW(Gas Metal Arc Welding) method. An estimation of fatigue life was studied by constructing S-N curve. Fatigue strength of base metal zone showed higher values than one of weld zone in low cycles between $10^4$ and $10^6$cycles. However, significant decrease in fatigue strength of base metal was found around $10^6$cycles, which were almost same as one of heat affected zone. This decrease was attributed that initial residual stress of the steel rods distributed by drawing process was diminished by continually applied load, and resulted in softening of base metal. The fatigue limit of the weld zone was highest in the boundary between deposited metal zone and heat affected zone, and followed by in the order of deposited metal zone, base metal zone, and heat affected zone. Based on these results, it is revealed that the stress for safety design of machine components using SM45C butt-welded steel rods must be selected within the region of the lowest fatigue limit of heat affected zone.

  • This study is an introduction of ADS in which we have written out programs which can design three-dimensional machine parts and reduce the required time for design them comparing with other CADs. Among the machine parts, screws are commonly used in joining one part to another because of easy handing but welding and rivet are used to join permanently them even thought hard operation. Consequently, we have developed the screw fer permanent fixing using stairs type screw threads, which is considered as the main machine parts in joining. For that, we designed permanent fastened screws according to the different rotation angle using VisualLISP and transferred it to ANSYS, structural solution program, to find out allowance load, maximum equivalent stress and where it occur.
