Environmental polluting materials from road surface drainage are a significant nonpoint source influenced to the eutrophication of lake and ecosystems with a transport development in recent years. To elucidate the discharge characteristics, the changing patterns in concentrations of polluting materials such as suspended solid (SS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrogenous and phosphorus nutrients in drainage waters, were investigated during rainfall. Load variation of COD concentration in drainage water samples was closely related to that of SS concentration. This indicates that SS contained a greater part of organic matter. A quite difference between the past pavement and the new well-drainage pavement system was observed in the concentrations of SS and COD in drainage waters. Appreciable concentrations of nitrite and nitrate were determined in drainage waters. The present results indicate that the drainage water from road surfaces is a significant nonpoint source, and that the well-drainage pavement system introduced to skid prevention has an effect on the decreases of pollutants.
Most of flooding cases in tunnels are associated with huge inrushes of water due to the fracture zone with very high water head. To find out the causes and countermeasures for flooding cases, a dozen of tunneling cases are studied. Case studies presented here show that if the flooding had been forecasted and pre-drained prior to the tunnel excavation, such accidents could have been prevented. From this observation, we suggest a new horizontal drainage system with pre-investigation and pre-drainage concept. Seepage analyses are performed to analyze the water head reduction effect on the tunnel face by drainage pipes during the construction of subsea tunnels. Drainage system analyses are performed to analyze performance of the drainage system. These analysis results show that the suggested horizontal pre-drainage system provides a clear drainage and water head reducing effect. Finally, the proposed system can be a new alternative to the present water controlling methods applied to subsea tunnels.

The existing drainage facility management system is not systematically computerized, and it is difficult to manage each drainage facility on-site due to insufficient information and location management. Currently, in the current drainage system management, repair technicians recognize the information of the drainage facility by recognizing the QR code at the site. These methods have difficulty locating QR codes in the field, and the problem is that they incur additional maintenance costs due to loss and breakage of QR code attachments. The GPS-based drainage management system proposed in this paper stores and manages each drainage facility's data including GPS information, allowing applications to use the location and information of drainage facilities based on user location data.

In Korea, global warming caused by the climate changes impacted on weather system with increase in frequency and intensity of precipitation, and the rainfall pattern changes significantly by regional groups. Furthermore, it is expected that the regional and annual fluctuation ranges of the rainfall in the future would be more severe. Nowadays, agricultural drainage system designed by the existing standard of 20-year return period and 2 days of fixation time cannot deal with the increment rainfall such as localized heavy rain and local torrential rainfalls. Therefore, it is required to reinforce the standard of the drainage system in order to reduce the agricultural flood damage brought by unusual weather. In addition, it is needed to improve the standard of agricultural drainage design in order to cultivate farm products in paddy fields as facility vegetable cultivation and up-land field crop have been damaged by the moisture injury and flooding. In order to prepare for the changes of rainfall pattern due to climate changes and improve the agricultural drainage design standards by the increase of cultivating farm products, the purpose of this study is to examine the impact of climate changes, the changes of relative design standard, and the analytic situation of agricultural flood damages, to consider the drainage design standard revision, and finally to prepare for enhanced agricultural drainage design standards.

With the change of the agricultural environment (increased rice production, decreased rice consumption, and rice production policies), converting paddy fields into upland fields is an increasing trend. In terms of conversion into upland fields, subsurface drainage is one of the most important factors for good field crop growth. This study evaluates the performance of a subsurface drainage culvert system in paddy fields and reclaimed lands. The obtained results are briefly summarized as follows: 1) After a comparative evaluation of several subsurface drainage culvert systems, including excavated subsurface drainage and non-excavated subsurface drainage types, type 3 (non-excavated, perforated drain pipe 50 mm, filter mat B50 cm, subsoiling 70 cm and culvert spacing 5 m) shows relatively high values among four types in terms of effectiveness (subsurface discharge capability) and economic efficiency (construction cost). 2) Type 3 has proven that it is suitable for design standards of discharge capacity through field tests performed in paddy fields (three sites: Gong-geom, Gae-san, Juk-san) and reclaimed lands (two sites: Gum-ho, Mi-am). 3) In the experiment of Sesamum indicum growth according to the existence of a drainage system, Sesamum indicum growth with a subsurface drainage culvert system had good value in terms of plant shoot and root length, shoot fresh and dry weight, and root fresh and dry weight).

The objective of this study is to propose the drainage system that has been improved the workability, waterproofing and drainage performance to treat the leakage from the cement concrete structures in underground. It is improved that the pipe for conveying ground leak in the existing drainage system had the problem in workability and waterproof. The drainage systems with the improved pipe for conveying ground leak were constructed in conventional concrete lining tunnels to evaluate the workability, waterproofing and drainage. The waterproof and the drainage performance of the drainage system was evaluated by injecting 1,000 ml of red water in the back of the drainage system at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 11 weeks, 14 weeks, 17 weeks and 23 weeks. During 6 months of field performance test, the average daily temperature of the tunnel site was measured from $-12.4^{\circ}C$ to $19.7^{\circ}C$. The daily minimum temperature was $-17.2^{\circ}C$ and the daily maximum temperature was $26.7^{\circ}C$. There was no problem in waterproof and drainage performance on the pipe for conveying ground leak and the drainage system during 6 months for field performance test. It is concluded that the improved drainage system can be applied to various cement concrete underground structures where leakage occurs, and has little seasonal effect.
For underpasses in Yeongjong Sky City business district, the guided drainage system, as a buoyancy prevention system has been designed, and is under construction. This paper investigates the safety of the guided drainage system for underpass structures being constructed in Yeongjong Sky City business district. This paper also calculates the amount of outflowing groundwater generated by the guided drainage system, and proposes alternative usages of the water. In order to investigate safety and field applicability of the guided drainage system for underpasses, characteristics of the surface flow for the area of interest have been analyzed, and the flow change of groundwater following the underpass structure construction has been evaluated using the 3-dimensional groundwater program MODFLOW. The influence of ground water on safety of the underpass structures has been calculated by FLAC2D analysis. For alternative usages for the outflowing groundwater generated by the guided drainage system, utilization methods of the outflowing groundwater in national and international resources have been researched. The amount of an outflowing groundwater to be generated in the area of interest has been analyzed, and efficient potential usages of this groundwater have been researched. When guided drainage technique is applied, the change in flow of groundwater must be evaluated and considered as safety factor relating to the buoyancy of the structure. As a result, safety factor demonstrated more than 1.2, meaning that the underpass structure is safe. The amount of subsoil drain generated by the guided drainage system was also analyzed. The quality and amount of water satisfied the standards and volume requirements, so as to make it applicable for a number of uses, such as X, Y, and Z, and should prove to be a valuable resource as the circumstances of the neighboring area change over time. These resources can be used as basic data for future urban water circulation studies, as well as generating research of alternative water usages.

This study proposes a new concept of a tunnel central drainage system by using a drain board to make a breakthrough on difficulties in the installation of conventional drainage system and draw-down of its drain capacity especially in long tunnels. A fundamental study has been performed for evaluation of the drain capacity of the planar drainage system adopted in this study. In fact, the system proposed makes possible to omit the side, transverse as well as central drainage pipes required in the conventional system, even if its drain capacity and any guideline for design are not available to date. In this circumstance, it is carried out to investigate the correlation between drain capacities and, shapes and posit ions of the columns of the drain board in terms of a variety of water inflows through hydrological model tests. It is shown from the tests that a drain capacity is highly influenced by the shape and the distance between the columns of a drain board in flowing direction, and a round rectangular shape of the columns leads to the highest capacity of drainage. And also, the shorter distance between the columns in flowing direction, the higher drain capacity would be achieved.

This study was performed to find effective measuring methods of retention and drainage by comparing traditional measuring methods of Britt jar, Canadian standard freeness tester methods and recently developed RDA-HSF with multi-channel turbidimeter method. At the result, Multi-channel turbidimeter method was useful to measure retention and efficiency of multiple chemical dosing system. A system CSF equipped with the balance recorder was also useful to obtain dynamic drainage information including initial drainage rate and final drainage amount. Therefore, we consider these new measuring systems would be helpful to advance retention and drainage technology.

About 50 percent of irrigation and drainage facilities in our country are deteriorated as they were constructed over 40 years ago. Worsening the problems in function might be caused by these facilities' constant exposure to the elements. With these reason, efficient maintenance and management of irrigation and drainage facili- ties are required. A computerized system is tailored on the basis of the each characteristics'data of irrigation and drainage facilities. The unified management system to be introduced in this study is a package program consisting of three subprograms. Facility Management(FM) system, the first component, is a relational database system for image processing and registering the characteristics of irrigation and drainage facilities. The objective of this program is to manage the ledger of each facilities and to scan the characteristics of facilities. Telemeter(TM) system, the second component, monitors and processes the data from the sensors statistically. This system is preprogramed for the complete design of TC/TM system. Hydrological Data Management(HDM) system, the third component, executes the hydrological analysis using meteorological data. The unified management system can provide the latest information, such as image data, lists and items of facilities, and items of reforming and rebuilding etc., of the facilities to the manager. At the same time, this system can manage hydrological and meteorological data in realtime.
