  • This study intends to study about the blade performance loss occurred due to the variation in the shape of an airfoil from attachment/non-attachment of an erosion shield for the hovercraft. The model in this study has used NACA44XXseries, has designed NACA44XX-series by using the Auto CAD, and it designed the shape that has attached an erosion shield to this model according to the thickness and length. By using these models, a grid was generated by GAMBIT and the lift coefficient ($C_l$) and the drag coefficient ($C_d$) were calculated FLUENT code for flow analysis. Through this, the $C_l$ and $C_d$ have calculated and compared the lift-to-drag ratio that an indicator of airfoil performance according to the shape and attachment/non-attachment of erosion shield.

This study model has used NACA 4412, has designed NACA 4412 by using Auto CAD and designed the shape that has attached an erosion shield to this model according to the thickness and length. By using these models, we have generated a grid by using GAMBIT and calculated the lift coefficient (Cl) and drag coefficient (Cd) by using the FLUENT code for flow analysis. Through this, we have calculated and compared the lift-to-drag ratio that is an indicator of airfoil performance according to the shape and attachment/non-attachment of erosion shield.

  • The road tunnel install a vent for the purpose of ventilation and smoke control. Ventilation equipment capacity(number of jet fans) depends on from the condition that of the pressure and ventilation resistance. Pressure and the resistance under operating vehicle have affected on the drag coefficient. The drag coefficient of the tunnel have affected by the blockage effect and slipstream effects. However, when calculating the ventilation fan, are not properly consider taking into account such effects. Therefore, ventilation force may have been slightly overestimated. This paper describes the drag coefficient through a numerical analysis to calculate the equivalent resistance area that reflects the vehicle distance, and examined the equivalent resistance area. The ventilation coefficient corresponding to the result heavy vehicle mixing ratio of the present study was not clear. Equivalent resistance area had reduced by about 86% compared to the road design handbook current standards. Also it had analyzed and reduced to 62.2% compared to Korea Highway Corporation ventilation design criteria ratio, which is the old standard.

  • Three dimensional, compressible, mass weighted averaging of Favre, Navier-Stokes system with k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence, is numerically discretized to compute three dimensional multiple jet interaction flow fields for a hybrid projectile containing three rocket motors in the ogive section. Numerical flow field computations have been made for angled nose jets and rockets at supersonic speed using multiblock structured grid. The jet conditions include very high jet to free stream pressure ratio and high temperature. It is shown that the strength of nozzle stagnation pressure affects the flow field near the side nozzle and the high stagnation pressure increases total amount of drag by a few percent. However, minor drag loss due to the pressure drag might be fully overcomed by an additional axial thrust. The results of present study can be applied for the design of future hybrid projectile.

  • A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of the Gurney flap on a NACA 23012 airfoil. A Navier-Stokes code, RAMPANT, was used to calculate the flow field about the airfoil. Fully-turbulent results were obtained using the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ two-equation turbulence model. The numerical solutions showed that the Gurney flap increased both lift and drag. These results suggested that the Gurney flap served to increase the effective camber of the airfoil. The Gurney flap provided a significant increase in the lift-to-drag ratio relatively at low angle of attack and for high lift coefficient. It turned out that 0.6% chord size of flap was the best. The numerical results exhibited detailed flow structures at the trailing edge and provided a possible explanation for the increased aerodynamic performance.

The fully turbulent results were obtained using the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ two-equation turbulence model. To provide a check case for our computational method, computations were performed for NACA 4412 airfoil which compared with Wedcock's experimental data. Gurney flap sizes of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2% of the airfoil chord were studied. The numerical solutions showed the Gurney flap increased both lift and drag. These results suggested that the Gurney flap served to increased the effective camber of the airfoil. But Gurney flap provided a significant increase in lift-to-drag ratio relatively at low angle of attack and for high lift coefficient. Also, it turned out that 0.5% chord size of flap was best one among them.

  • The results of flow feature around two circular cylinders in various arrangements are carried out using two-dimensional simulation at Reynolds number of 200. In this work, time-averaged fluid force acting on the upstream and downstream cylinders were calculated for staggered angle ${\alpha}=0{\sim}90^{\circ}$ in the range of L/D = 1.1~5, where ${\alpha}$ is the angle between the free-stream flow and the line connecting the centers of the cylinders, L is centre-to-centre distance and D is cylinder diameter. The dependence of magnitudes and trends of fluid force coefficient on the spacing ratio L/D and ${\alpha}$ are discussed. In all arrangements of two cylinders, tandem arrangement (${\alpha}=0^{\circ}$) is the case produced a minimum drag coefficient for downstream cylinder. Moreover, the locations of separation and stagnation points or pressure coefficient on surface of the cylinder were examined. • This paper is intended to provide experimental data for the design of the small VAWT(vertical axis wind turbine). Three types(lift, drag, and hybrid) of the blade of VAWT are tested with digital wind tunnel in this study. From the test, the relation of power coefficient and tip speed ratio for the blades are evaluated and compared each other depending on the blade type. Especially, the characteristics of hybrid blade which is shown to be expanded in the market without any logical data is proposed in the relation of power coefficient and tip speed ratio. It is shown that the hybrid blade can be used to make higher starting torque with trade off of degradation of power coefficient.

  • The counter jet flow which is injected against the free stream at stagnation region of blunt body for improvement of aerodynamic performance has been studied by using upwind Navier-Stokes method. The variations of drag force and upwind forward penetration depth due to changes in the stagnation thermodynamic properties of counter jet flow such as total pressure, Mach number, and total temperature have been studied. The results show that the changes in the stagnation pressure and Mach number have large effects on the wall pressure and drag force, but the total temperature does not affect the wall pressure and drag force.
