In this study, a wind tunnel test was conducted to measure the aerodynamic characteristics of a streamline-designed high-speed bus with the change of wind direction and speed and the result is compared with the aerodynamic performance of a commercialized high-speed bus model (Model-0) manufactured by Zyle Daewoo Bus Corp. Aerodynamic performance of the existing rear-spoiler was tested to prove its aerodynamic effect on the test model bus. From the study, it was found that 24.6 % of the total drag of the original bus model (Model-0) was reduced on the streamline-designed model bus(model-1) without the rear-spoiler but only 14.3 % of the total drag was reduced with the spoiler on the streamlined model bus. It means that the rear spoiler does not work properly with the streamlined model bus (model-1) and should be noted that an optimum design of a rear-spoiler of a vehicle is important to reduce the induced pressure drag and increase the driving stability of a vehicle against yaw motion. The experimental outcome was also compared to the previous numerical research result to evaluate the reliability of the numerical algorithm of the aerodynamic performance analysis of a vehicle. The error rate (%) of the numerical result to the experimental output is about 5.4 % and it is due to the simplified body configuration of the numerical model bus. The drag increases at the higher yaw angle because the transparent frontal area of the model vehicle increases and the downward force increases with the yaw angle as well. It has a positive effect to the driving stability of the vehicle but the moderated downward force should be kept for the fuel economy of a vehicle.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the drag and lift characteristics of the cavitator of a supercavitating underwater vehicle and the pressure loss due to water intake. These investigations were performed by changing the diameter, velocity, radius of curvature of the intake, and angle of attack of the cavitator. With increasing ratio of the intake diameter to the cavitator diameter ratio($d/D_1$), the drag coefficient and the pressure loss coefficient of the water intake decreased. The greater the increase in the ratio of the intake velocity-to-free stream velocity ratio(S), the smaller was the decrease in the drag coefficient and the lift coefficient. When the intake had a radius of curvature(c), the pressure loss coefficient decreased. On the contrary, the effect of the radius of curvature on the drag coefficient was imperceptible. For angles of attack (${\alpha}$) of the caviatator in the range of $0^{\circ}$ to $10^{\circ}$, the drag coefficient and the pressure loss coefficient changed slightly, whereas the lift coefficient increased linearly with increasing angle of attack.

This study analyses the effects of various angles in sculling on human body lift and drag by means of computational fluid dynamics, discusses the importance of sculling and provides a basis for the development of future water safety education programmes. Study subjects were based on the mean data collected from males in the age of 20s from a survey on the anthropometric dimensions of the Koreans. Moreover, lift, drag as well as coefficient values, all of which were governed by the angle of the palm, were calculated using 3-dimentional modelling produced by computational fluid dynamics programmes i.e. CFD. Interpretations were performed via general k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence modelling in order to determine lift, drag and coefficient values. Turbulence intensity was set to one per cent as per the figures from preceding research papers and 3-dimentional simulations were performed for a total of five different angles $0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$. The drag and lift values for the differing angles of the hands during sculling movement are as follows. The lift and drag values gradually increased with the increasing angle of the palm, however, the magnitude of increase for drag started to predominate lift from $45^{\circ}$ and lift gradually decreased from $60^{\circ}$. Overall, it is concluded that the optimal efficiency of sculling can be achieved at the angles $15^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, and it is anticipated that greater safety and informative education can be ensured for Life saving trainees if the results were to be applied to practical settings. However, as the study was conducted using simulation programmes which performed analyses on the collected anthropometric dimension, the obtained results cannot be made universal, which warrants furthers studies involving varied study subjects with actual measurements taken in water.

Some physical properties of rapeseed were measured at five moisture levels of 10.03, 14.91, 20.07, 25.06 and 30.12% (w.b.), which include frictional properties (coefficient of static friction, emptying and filling angle of repose) and aerodynamic properties (terminal velocity and drag coefficient). The physical properties of rapeseed were evaluated as a function of seed moisture content. In the moisture content range, the coefficients of static friction, emptying and filling angle of repose increased linearly with increase of moisture content. The maximum values of coefficients of static friction were on the acrylic surface, varied from 0.34 to 0.43; the next is on the galvanized steel, varied from 0.30 to 0.38; and the minimum were on stainless steel surface, varied from 0.27 to 0.35. Emptying and filling angle of repose varied from 26.12 to 29.62 and 23.83 to 27.05 degrees, respectively. Terminal velocity increased linearly from 3.47 to 3.91 m/s with increase of moisture content. Drag coefficient varied from 1.84 to 1.64 as the moisture content increased. The relationship between drag coefficient and moisture content were expressed by non-linear equation.
The aerodynamic performance of aircraft in icing condition can deteriorate considerably by contamination of aerodynamic and propulsive systems due to icing accretions on aircraft surfaces. A computational analysis based on the Eulerian description was performed on an airfoil to investigate effects of ice accretions on airfoil aerodynamics. A water droplet with liquid water concentration ($0.00075kg/m^3$) and mean volume diameter ($20{\mu}m$) was considered and applied to various angles of attack to investigate the stall angle decrease and the drag increment.
A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of the Gurney flap on a NACA 23012 airfoil. A Navier-Stokes code, RAMPANT, was used to calculate the flow field about the airfoil. Fully-turbulent results were obtained using the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ two-equation turbulence model. The numerical solutions showed that the Gurney flap increased both lift and drag. These results suggested that the Gurney flap served to increase the effective camber of the airfoil. The Gurney flap provided a significant increase in the lift-to-drag ratio relatively at low angle of attack and for high lift coefficient. It turned out that 0.6% chord size of flap was the best. The numerical results exhibited detailed flow structures at the trailing edge and provided a possible explanation for the increased aerodynamic performance.
The initial unfolding motion simulation of a sub-munition with drag ribbon for precision guidance and reliable operation has been investigated by analyzing its unsteady aerodynamic load and fluid structure interaction. The effects of change in the ribbon configuration and flow angle are numerically studied using a commercial software "XFLOW" based on Lattice-Boltzmann Method. It is shown that the motion is affect adversely by the separation bubble formed posterior part of the fuselage. The rolling moment for arming of the sub-munition is increased with angle of attack and rotational movement.
A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of the Gurney flap on NACA 0015 airfoil. A Navier-Stokes code. FLUENT, was used to calculate the flow field about the airfoil. The fully-turbulent results were obtained using the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ two-equation turbulence model. The numerical solutions showed the Gurney flap increased both lift and drag. These results suggested that the Gurney flap served to increase the effective camber of the airfoil. Gurney flap provided a significant increase in lift-to-drag ratio relatively at low angle of attack and for high lift coefficient. It turned out that 0.75% chord size of flap was best. The numerical results exhibited detailed flow structures at the trailing edge and provided a possible explanation for the increased aerodynamic performance.
A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of a Gurney flap on a NACA 23012 airfoil. A Navier-Stokes code, RAMPANT, was used to calculate the flow field about airfoil. The fully turbulent results were obtained using the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ two-equation turbulence model. To provide a check case for our computational method, computations were performed for NACA 4412 airfoil which compared with Wedcock's experimental data. Gurney flap sizes of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2% of the airfoil chord were studied. The numerical solutions showed the Gurney flap increased both lift and drag. These results suggested that the Gurney flap served to increased the effective camber of the airfoil. But Gurney flap provided a significant increase in lift-to-drag ratio relatively at low angle of attack and for high lift coefficient. Also, it turned out that 0.5% chord size of flap was best one among them.
A parametric study on the shapes of bobsleigh bumpers has been performed to reduce the aerodynamic drag. Effects of geometric parameters, such as leading angle of leading bumper, the ratio of minimum width to maximum width of leading bumper, the ratio of leading bumper length to trailing bumper length, trailing angle of trailing bumper, and the ratio of bumper height to installation location of bumper from the bottom of bobsleigh, on the aerodynamic performance of the bobsleigh were estimated using 3-D Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The turbulence was analyzed using the shear stress turbulence model. Reynolds number based on the hydraulic diameter of the external flow channel was in the range of 150,000~1,000,000. Numerical results for drag coefficient were validated compared to experimental data. Ranges of the five geometric parameters were determined according to the rule of Federation Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobaganning. The aerodynamic performance of the bobsleigh sled was most sensitive to the leading angle of leading bumper and the ratio of minimum width to maximum width of leading bumper.
