A series of soil bin experiment was carried out on sand to investigate if true model theory is applicable to blade-soil system and finally to find mathematical relationship between the dimensionless terms which contain the blade-soil parameters. The following conclusions were derived from the study. 1. It was proved that the draft of the prototype blade can be predicted without distortion by those of model blades with the length scale of 1.2, 2 and 2.4. 2. For the sand, bulk density was found to be a good measure of soil physical properties which are pertinent to predict the draft of the blade-soil system. 3. The mathematical relationship between $D/{\gamma}W$ and d/W, ${\beta}$, and $V^2/Wg$ are as follows ; $$\frac{D}{{\gamma}W^3}=124.98[\frac{d}{W}]^2+7.16[\frac{d}{W}]+0.43 \\ \frac{D}{{\gamma}W^3}=-0.00099{\beta}^2+0.13{\beta}-2.01 \\ \frac{D}{{\gamma}W^3}=0.041[\frac{V^2}{Wg}]^2+0.08[\frac{V^2}{Wg}]+1.3$$

It is very difficult to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain accurate cutting profiles because machining errors caused by tool deflection depend upon cutting conditions. In this study the relationship between real cutting profiles (inclined shapes and machining errors) and cutting conditions was modeled in order to fabricate draft angle on micro molds. CCD (Central Composite Design) of DOE (Design Of Experiment) and RSM (Response Surface Method) were applied in order to model the relationship between cutting conditions and machining errors. In order to use CCD the range of radial depth of cut was chosen by $10-90{\mu}m$ and the range of feedrate was chosen by 200-300mm/min, and 9 points of cutting conditions were chosen inside determined ranges. Then, actual cutting processes were carried out as respect to 9 points of cutting conditions, draft angles and real cutting profiles were measured on cutting profiles, each response surface function was determined by conducting response surface analysis and the functions were represented by 3-dimensional graphs, contour lines and $101{\times}101$ matrices. Consequently it is possible to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angles and cutting profiles by using modeling. To validate proposed approach in this study suitable cutting conditions were determined by modeling in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angle and cutting profile, and actual cutting processes were carried out. About 95% of good agreement between predicted and measured values was obtained.

In hot strip rolling, sound prediction of the temperature of the strip is vital for achieving the desired finishing mill draft temperature (FDT). In this paper, a precision on-line model for the prediction of temperature distributions along the thickness of the strip in the finishing mill is presented. The model consists of an analytic model for the prediction of temperature distributions in the inter-stand zone, and a semi-analytic model for the prediction of temperature distributions in the bite zone in which thermal boundary conditions as well as heat generation due to deformation are predicted by finite element-based, approximate models. The prediction accuracy of the proposed model is examined through comparison with predictions from a finite element process model.
The aim of the current study was to develop an advanced prediction model for the slab width spread during hot rough rolling. Rough rolling consists of both vertical rolling using a set of profiled edger rolls and horizontal rolling using a set of plain work rolls. FE-simulations were performed to investigate the influences of process variables such as initial slab width, initial thickness, sizing draft, edger roll draft and work roll draft on the final slab width variation. From a statistical analysis of the simulation results, an advanced model, which can predict the slab width spread during the edger rolling and horizontal rolling, was developed. The experimental hot rolling trials showed that the newly developed model provided fairly accurate predictions on the slab width spread during hot rough rolling process using a profiled edger rolls.

When Francis turbines operate at partial load, residual swirl in the draft tube causes low-frequency pulsation of pressure and power output. Scale effects and system response may bias the prediction of prototype behavior based on laboratory tests, but could be overcome by means of a 1D analytical model. This paper deals with the two most important features of such a model, the compliance and the source of excitation. In a distributed-parameter version, compliance should be represented as an exponential function of local pressure. Lack of similarity due to different Froude number can thus be compensated. The normally unknown gas content in the vortex cavity has significant influence on the pulsation, and should therefore be measured and considered as a test parameter.
Internet Video Coding (IVC) is a royalty-free codec currently being developed in MPEG. Coding efficiency of IVC codec has been steadily enhanced and it was reported that the performance of Committee Draft (CD) version is comparable to H.264/AVC High Profile (HP) in terms of objective and subjective qualities. In this paper, we present some coding tools that have been proposed for enhancing the coding efficiency of IVC during the developing process in MPEG along with brief overview of IVC codec architecture and coding algorithms. The coding tools include both of normative tools and informative tools such as non-reference P frame coding, DC mode intra prediction, Lagrange multiplier selection, and extension of chroma intra prediction modes. Improvement obtained by each tool is presented in terms of algorithm and coding gain based on the experiments. As a result of the experiment, the coding tools give the average bit saving of 8.8%, 0.4%, 0.4%, and 0.0%, respectively, in the low-delay coding mode.

Water hammer phenomena are important issues for the design and the operation of hydro power plants. Especially, if several reversible pump-turbines are coupled hydraulically there may be strong unit interactions. The precise prediction of all relevant transients is challenging. Regarding a recent pump-storage project, dynamic measurements motivate an improved turbine modeling approach making use of a Thoma number dependency. The proposed method is validated for several transient scenarios and turns out to improve correlation between measurement and simulation results significantly. Starting from simple scenarios, this allows better prediction of more complex transients. By applying a fully automated simulation procedure broad operating ranges of the highly nonlinear system can be covered providing a consistent insight into the plant dynamics. This finally allows the optimization of the closing strategy and hence the overall power plant performance.
The spatial mapping of risk is very useful data in planning for disaster preparedness. This research presents a methodology for making the landslide life risk map in the Boeun area which had considerable landslide damage following heavy rain in August, 1998. We have developed a three-stage procedure in spatial data analysis not only to estimate the probability of the occurrence of the natural hazardous events but also to evaluate the uncertainty of the estimators of that probability. The three-stage procedure consists of: (i)construction of a hazard prediction map of "future" hazardous events; (ii) validation of prediction results and estimation of the probability of occurrence for each predicted hazard level; and (iii) generation of risk maps with the introduction of human life factors representing assumed or established vulnerability levels by combining the prediction map in the first stage and the estimated probabilities in the second stage with human life data. The significance of the landslide susceptibility map was evaluated by computing a prediction rate curve. It is used that the Bayesian prediction model and the case study results (the landslide susceptibility map and prediction rate curve) can be prepared for prevention of future landslide life risk map. Data from the Bayesian model-based landslide susceptibility map and prediction ratio curves were used together with human rife data to draft future landslide life risk maps. Results reveal that individual pixels had low risks, but the total risk death toll was estimated at 3.14 people. In particular, the dangerous areas involving an estimated 1/100 people were shown to have the highest risk among all research-target areas. Three people were killed in this area when landslides occurred in 1998. Thus, this risk map can deliver factual damage situation prediction to policy decision-makers, and subsequently can be used as useful data in preventing disasters. In particular, drafting of maps on landslide risk in various steps will enable one to forecast the occurrence of disasters.

A fuzzy logic Run-by-Run(RbR) controller and an in -line wafer characteristics prediction scheme for the rapid thermal processing system have been developed for the study of process repeatability. The fuzzy logic RbR controller provides a framework for controlling a process which is subject to disturbances such as shifts and drifts as a normal part of its operation. The fuzzy logic RbR controller combines the advantages of both fuzzy logic and feedback control. It has two components : fuzzy logic diagnostic system and model modification system. At first, a neural network model is constructed with the I/O data collected during the designed experiments. The wafer state after each run is assessed by the fuzzy logic diagnostic system with featuring step. The model modification system updates the existing neural network process model in case of process shift or drift, and then select a new recipe based on the updated model using genetic algorithm. After this procedure, wafer characteristics are predicted from the in-line wafer characteristics prediction model with principal component analysis. The fuzzy logic RbR controller has been applied to the control of Titanium SALICIDE process. After completing all of the above, it follows that: 1) the fuzzy logic RbR controller can compensate the process draft, and 2) the in-line wafer characteristics prediction scheme can reduce the measurement cost and time.

In the design stage of hull forms, a fast prediction method of resistance performance is needed. In these days, large test matrix of candidate hull forms is tested using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in order to choose the best hull form before the model test. This process requires large computing times and resources. If there is a fast and reliable prediction method for hull form performance, it can be used as the first filter before applying CFD. In this paper, we suggest the offset-based performance prediction method. The hull form geometry information is applied in the form of 2D offset (non-dimensionalized by breadth and draft), and it is studied using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and adapted to the model test results (Residual Resistance Coefficient; CR). Some additional variables which are not included in the offset data such as main dimensions are merged with the offset data in the process. The present model shows better performance comparing with the simple regression models.
