The objective of this work is to investigate the turbulent reacting flow in a three dimensional combustor with emphasis on thermal NO emission through a numerical simulation. Flow field is analyzed using the SIMPLE method which is known as stable as well as accurate in the combustion modeling, and the finite volume method is adopted in solving the radiative transfer equation. In this work, the thermal characteristics and NO emission in a three dimensional combustor by changing parameters such as equivalence ratio and inlet swirl angle have investigated. As the equivalence ratio increases, which means that more fuel is supplied due to a larger inlet fuel velocity, the flame temperature increases and the location of maximum temperature and thermal NO has moved towards downstream. In the mean while, the existence of inlet swirl velocity makes the fuel and combustion air more completely mixed and burnt in short distance. Therefore, the locations of the maximum reaction rate, temperature and thermal NO were shifted to forward direction compared with the case of no swirl.
To achieve efficient combustion within a manageable length, a successful fuel injection scheme must provide rapid mixing between the fuel and airstreams. The aim of the present numerical research is to investigate the flame holding and combustion enhancement. Additional fuel into the cavity prevents shear flow impingement on the trailing edge of the cavity. The high temperature freestream flow mixes with the cold hydrogen fuel that is injected into the cavity and raises the fuel temperature remarkably and become to start combustion. The high pressure in the cavity due to the cavity structure and combustion leads the hydrogen fuel to upstream. The shock in the cavity to be generated by the fuel injection joins together and reflects off the ceiling wall. This makes high pressure and low mach number region and makes a small recirculation in this region. This high stagnation temperature is nearly recovered in the shear layer in front of the cavity and leads to start combustion. In the downstream of the cavity, the wall pressure drops significantly. This means that the combustion phenomenon is diminished. Because fuel lumps at the trailing edge of the cavity then it spreads after the cavity so, in this region there is a strong expansion.

In Korean coal power plants, rising coal prices have recently led to the rapid utilization of low lank coals such as sub-bituminous coal with low calorific values and low ash fusion temperatures. Using these coals beyond the design range has resulted in important issues including slagging and fouling, which cause negative effects in boiler performances and unstable operations. The purpose of this study is to observe slagging and fouling characteristics resulted from burning various ranks of pulverized coals. We have tested 3 different coals: FLAME(bituminous), KCH(sub-bituminous) and MOOLARBEN(bituminous)coals in the pilot system $50kW_{th}$ scale. A stainless steel tube with preheated air inside was installed in the downstream in order to simulate water wall. Collected ash on the probe and the slag inside the furnace near burner were analyzed by SEM (scanning electron microscopy) to verify the formation degree, surface features and color changes of the pasty ash particles. Induced coupled plasma and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were also performed to figure out the chemical characteristics of collected samples. As a result, KCH was observed that more slag was developed inside the walls of the furnace and on the probe than the other two kinds of coals, as shown in the calculate slagging and fouling indices as well.
This study was carried on the combustion characteristics of a pure light oil and emulsified fuels at high-pressure injection in a spray combustion installation, The volume fractions of water in an emulsion were varied up to 30% and the injection pressures were 7.5, 100, 200, and $300kg_f/cm^2$. The concentrations of NOx and the average temperatures of flame were measured. And Images of OH radical using ICCD camera and instantaneous schlieren photography of flames were photographed. It was found that the temperature distribution of axial distance in the emulsified fuels was increased in the upstream and decreased in the down stream. The temperature distribution of radial distance was high at the peripheral regions of the spray in the upstream and at the central regions of spray in the downstream, The intensity of OH radical was denser at the water content 10% than at the pure light oil over the injection pressure $200kg_f/cm^2$.

An experimental study was performed to investigate the chemiluminescence characteristics in the spray combustion of ultransonically atomized kerosene. The radical intensity of the spray flame was measured using an ICCD camera and the amount of fuel consumed was obtained by a precise flow-rate measurement technique during combustion. Fuel consumption increased linearly with the increase in carrier-gas flow rate, and typical group combustion, which is a characteristic of spray combustion, was observed. It was found from the analysis of chemiluminescence that the maximum emission intensities of OH and CH radicals decrease, and they move downstream resulting in the increase in a vivid reaction zone as the spray flow rate increases.

Currently, melamine is being used variously in our lives such as resins, flame retardants, adhesive, laminate etc. And understandably sewer of stream of wastewater containing Melamine has also increased. GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals) of EU safety guidelines says that it can cause cancer. Still, study on toxicity of Melamine is going on. In this research, melamine contamination level of the Han River and River Basin was analyzed by HPLC/UV. And the experiments of GAC adsorption were conducted and the model was studied. We collected the 3 same samples at the suburbs of Paldang Dam located in the relative upstream in Han River and Ttukseom amusement park, the downstream region and collected samples equally at the Hongreung stream, Wangsuk stream, Cheonggye stream among streams flowing into Han River and then measured Melamine concentration after purification. As a result, melamine was not detected at the suburbs of Paldang Dam and it was detected at Ttukseom amusement park, the downstream of it, in the concentration of $0.312{\mu}g/L$. The Wangsuk stream with $0.578{\mu}g/L$ highest Cheonggye stream and Hongreung stream was detected with each $0.197{\mu}g/L$ and $0.325{\mu}g/L$. Although the concentration was low in general, melamine detection could be checked at most point. In 1970, the world capacity of Melamine was estimated at 200,000 ton, with current production estimated to be 1,400,000 ton. Melamine of Han River and rivers flowing into Han River is present at low concentration but pollution will increase in the future due to increase of use. Depending on the size of activated carbon in the experiment were slightly different. But the breakthrough model is almost identical.

This study aims to experimentally investigate the combustion characteristics of a lean premixed swirl-stabilized burner with dual-stage fuel injection arrays. The results show that a variation in the fuel distribution to fuel stages 1 (upstream) and 2 (downstream) produces a noticeable change in the NOx and CO emissions. Reducing the confined ratio, defined as the ratio of the nozzle exit diameter to the liner diameter, may reduce NOx and CO emissions owing to reduced combustion loading and longer residence time, respectively. A nozzle exit velocity of 30 m/s shows the optimum characteristics in terms of NOx and CO emissions and flame stability: increasing or decreasing the nozzle exit velocity leads to a degradation in emissions or flame stability, respectively.

Vacuum Residue (VR) combustion tests were carried out with a 20 kg/hr (fuel feed rate) small scale reactor. The nozzle used was a steam atomized, internal mixing type. Compared to heavy oil, vacuum residue used in this work is extremely high viscous and contains high percentages of sulfur, carbon residue and heavy metals. To ignite atomized VR particles, it was necessary to preheat the reactor, and it has been done with LP gas. The axial and radial gas temperature, major species concentrations and solid sample were analyzed when varying the fuel feed rate. The main reaction zone of atomized VR-air flame in a reactor was anticipated within about 1 m from the burner tip by considering the profiles oi gas temperature, species concentration and particle size measured along with the reactor. At downstream, the thermally, fully developed temperature distribution was obtained. SEM photographs revealed that VR carbon particles collected from the reactor are porous and have many blow-holes on the particle surface.

With the depletion of high grade coal, it is indispensable to be used co-combustion of low rank coal with bituminous coal in pulverized coal-fired power plants. This study describes the detailed measurements of combustion characteristics of bituminous and subbituminous coal in a 0.7MWth pilot-scale test facility. This experimental works include the measurement of gas temperature, gas concentrations along with the reactor axial and radial distance at the condition of excess air ratio of 1.2. The solid sampling was carried out and analyzed with the combustion of bituminous coal. The main reaction zone of coal flame in a reactor was formed about 1 m from the swirl burner, and at downstream, the fully developed temperature and species distribution was observed. The sampled particles of bituminous coal in a reactor revealed the complete carbon burn-out was achieved just after an main combustion zone.
The accumulation levels of hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs) were measured in samples of muscle tissue from crucian carp (Carassius auratus) and also in samples of associated sediments. Samples were collected from 15 sites along the courses of four major rivers. Widespread contamination by HBCDs in this area was identified from the results of this investigation. HBCDs were found above the detection limit from all of the sampling sites. The ${\Sigma}HBCDs$ (sum of ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$-, and ${\gamma}$-HBCDs) levels ranged from 1.3 to 19 ng/g (lipid wt) in the crucian carp musscle tissue samples, and from 0.17 to 30 ng/g (dry wt) in the associated sediment samples. The predominance of ${\alpha}$-diastereomer in the muscle tissue of the carp and ${\gamma}$-diastereomer in the sediments was identified, accounting for 88% and 60% of the ${\Sigma}HBCDs$, respectively. The ${\Sigma}HBCDs$ levels in the muscle tissue samples of carp collected from the upstream sections of each river were much lower than those in the samples from carp in the downstream sections. In addition, the ${\Sigma}HBCDs$ levels in carp tissue samples from an isolated site were much lower than those in carp collected from the sites along the major rivers. This suggests that HBCD contamination in the rivers is likely to be sourced from the environment adjacent to them.
