Polymer insulators are used widely in variable fields for high voltage insulation and separating people from high voltage charging parts for safety and also supporting overhead power line in electric railway. But it may be broken down by tracking path resulting from continuous surface discharge. This paper has investigated synthetically both the characteristics of electrical aging using precision CT(current transformer) and the thermal aging using thermography method. Electrical aging was analyzed for time-frequency region and thermal aging was illustrated by image processing method. This synthetic method may be an appropriate one to evaluate the surface degradation of polymer insulator.
General transformer's life is known as paper insulation' life. If a transformer is degraded by these aging factors, it is known that electrical, mechanical and chemical characteristics for transformer's oil-paper are changed. When the kraft paper is aged, the cellulose polymer chains break down into shorter lengths. It causes decrease in both tensile strength and degree of polymerization of paper insulation. The paper breakdown is accompanied by an increase in the content of furanic compounds within the dielectric liquid. In this paper it is aimed at analysis on correlation between aging characteristics for insulating diagnosis of thermally aged paper. For investigating the accelerated aging process of oil-paper samples accelerating aging cell was manufactured for estimating variation of paper insulation during 500 hours at $140^{\circ}C$ temperature. To derive the results, it was performed analysis such as tensile strength(TS), depolymerization(DP), dielectric strength(DS), relative permittivity, water content(WC) and furan compound(FC) for aged paper. Also for analyzing correlation between insulating degradation characteristics, we used linear regression method. As as results of linear regression analysis, there was a close correlation between TS and DP. WC, FC. But dielectric strength was a weak correlation with aging time.

Stellite 12 alloy-powders were overlaid on 410 stainless steel valve seat by plasma transferred arc(PTA)process. Variation of microstructure and hardness of overlaid deposit with aging time at $750^{\circ}C$ was investigated. The deposit showed hypoeutectic microstructure, which was consisting of primary cobalt dendrite and networked $M_{7}C_{3}$type eutectic carbides. After aging new M_{23}C_{6}$ carbide was formed by the partial decomposition of $M_7C_3$ type eutectic carbides and finely dispersed $M_{23}C_6$ type carbides were also precipitated in the matrix. Hardness of the deposit was increased with increase of aging time at $750^{\circ}C$ and showed maximum value at 35hours. After showing maximum value, it was fallen down again at 70hours because of overaging. The increase of hardness in aging is ascribed to the formation of new stable $M_{23}C_6$ type carbide by the partial decomposition of $M_7C_3$ type eutectic carbides and also precipitation of finely dispersed $M_{23}C_6$ carbides in matrix.
The aging process induces a plethora of changes in the body including alterations in hormonal regulation and metabolism in various organs including the heart. Aging is associated with marked increase in the vulnerability of the heart to ischemia-reperfusion injury. Furthermore, it significantly hampers the development of adaptive response to various forms of conditioning stimuli (pre/post/remote conditioning). Aging significantly impairs the activation of signaling pathways that mediate preconditioning-induced cardioprotection. It possibly impairs the uptake and release of adenosine, decreases the number of adenosine transporter sites and down-regulates the transcription of adenosine receptors in the myocardium to attenuate adenosine-mediated cardioprotection. Furthermore, aging decreases the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma co-activator 1-alpha ($PGC-1{\alpha}$) and subsequent transcription of catalase enzyme which subsequently increases the oxidative stress and decreases the responsiveness to preconditioning stimuli in the senescent diabetic hearts. In addition, in the aged rat hearts, the conditioning stimulus fails to phosphorylate Akt kinase that is required for mediating cardioprotective signaling in the heart. Moreover, aging increases the concentration of $Na^+$ and $K^+$, connexin expression and caveolin abundance in the myocardium and increases the susceptibility to ischemia-reperfusion injury. In addition, aging also reduces the responsiveness to conditioning stimuli possibly due to reduced kinase signaling and reduced STAT-3 phosphorylation. However, aging is associated with an increase in MKP-1 phosphorylation, which dephosphorylates (deactivates) mitogen activated protein kinase that is involved in cardioprotective signaling. The present review describes aging as one of the major confounding factors in attenuating remote ischemic preconditioning-induced cardioprotection along with the possible mechanisms.
Objectives: Aging is an unconscious and gradual process that can lead to changes in biological systems. Induction of oxidative stress and apoptosis, hepatotoxicity and neurotoxicity are involved in the aging process. Regarding the antioxidant property of black seed oil, the aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-aging effect of Nigella sativa (N. sativa) oil on d-galactose-induced aging in mice. Methods: For induction of aging, D-galactose (500 mg/kg, subcoutaneously SC) was administrated to male mice for 42 days. Animals were treated with D-galactose alone or with b lack seed oil (0.1, 0.2, 0.5 mL/kg, intraperitoneally (ip)). Additionally, vitamin E (200 mg/kg) was used as a positive control. At the end of treatment, the malondialdehyde (MDA) and the glutathione (GSH) contents in brain and liver tissues were measured. Also, enzymes in serum, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine amino transferase (ALT), were determined. The levels of the proteins Bax, Bcl2, caspase-3 (pro and cleaved) in brain and liver tissues were evaluated. Results: Administration of D-galactose (500 mg/kg, SC) for 42 days increased serum levels of ALT and AST, as well as the MDA content, in brain and liver tissues, but decreased the GSH content. Additionally, the levels of apoptotic proteins, including Bax, procaspase-3 and caspase-3 cleaved, were markedly increased. N. sativa oil (0.1 and 0.2 mL/kg) diminished the levels of the biochemical markers ALT and AST. Administration of black seed oil (0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 mL/kg) reduced lipid peroxidation and at doses 0.1 and 0.2 mL/kg significantly recovered the GSH content. The oil decreased Bax/Bcl2 levels and at 0.1 mL/kg down-regulated the expressions of caspase-3 (pro and cleaved) proteins in brain and liver tissues. Conclusion: Through its antioxidant and anti-apoptosis properties, black seed oil exhibited an anti-aging effect in a model of aging induced with D-galactose.
Caveolin may be a molecular target for modulation of aging process in cochlear hair cells and have association with oxotoxicity. First we investigated the basal expression of caveolin-1, caveolin-2, caveolin-3, nitric oxide synthase, and superoxide dismutase in UB/OC-1 cochlear hair cell line. By using a RNA interference technique, we investigated whether down-regulation of caveolin influenced telomerase activity and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in cochlear hair cells. In addition, cisplatin and gentamycin, known ototoxic drugs, were administered to the cochlear cells to determine their impact on caveolin expression. Further attempts at elucidating cellular aging mechanism with caveolin and ototoxic drugs were carried out. The main discoveries were the presence of caveolin-1 in UB/OC-1 cells and that down-regulation of caveolin-1 reduced protein kinase A activity. Telomerase was activated by caveolin down-regulation and caveolin down-regulation inhibited oxidative stress at the mitochondrial level. When cisplatin and gentamycin were administered to the cochlear hair cells during a caveolin expression state, a decrease in telomerase activity and increase ROS activity was observed. Caveolin-1 may modulate the senescent mechanisms in cochlear cells. An increase in caveolin-1 levels can lead to ROS production in the mitochondria which may cause ototoxicity.
The winding problems of traction motor are the major determinant of motor's life. The root cause of winding failure is gradual deterioration of the insulation due to thermal, electrical, mechanical and environmental stresses. The aging of the insulation reduces the electrical and mechanical strength of the insulation. At same point, a voltage surge or mechanical shock from a traction motor start will fracture or break down the insulation. To achieve the expected life usually requires extensive laboratory evaluation of the insulation systems and the use of accelerated aging tests. There are several nondestructive test available for checking, the condition of motor insulation, the probable extent of aging, and the rate of which aging is taking place. So the insulation characteristics of stator coil were each analyzed by measurement of dielectric loss(tan$\sigma$), capacitance and partial discharge. The method of diagnosis is able to analyze the insulation condition and evaluate the life of the traction motor.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Brain senescence causes cognitive impairment and neurodegeneration. It has also been demonstrated that curcumin (Cur) and hesperetin (Hes), both antioxidant polyphenolic compounds, mediate anti-aging and neuroprotective effects. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate whether Cur, Hes, and/or their combination exert anti-aging effects in D-galactose (Dg)-induced aged neuronal cells and rats. MATERIALS/METHODS: SH-SY5Y cells differentiated in response to retinoic acid were treated with Cur (1 μM), Hes (1 μM), or a combination of both, followed by 300 mM Dg. Neuronal loss was subsequently evaluated by measuring average neurite length and analyzing expression of β-tubulin III, phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinases, and neurofilament heavy polypeptide. Cellular senescence and related proteins, p16 and p21, were also investigated, including their regulation of antioxidant enzymes. In vivo, brain aging was induced by injecting 250 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) Dg. The effects of supplementing this model with 50 mg/kg b.w. Cur, 50 mg/kg b.w. Hes, or a combination of both for 3 months were subsequently evaluated. Brain aging was examined with a step-through passive avoidance test and apoptosis markers were analyzed in brain cortex tissues. RESULTS: Cur, Hes, and their combination improved neuron length and cellular senescence by decreasing the number of β-gal stained cells, down-regulated expression of p16 and p21, and up-regulated expression of antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase 1, glutathione peroxidase 1, and catalase. Administration of Cur, Hes, or their combination also tended to ameliorate cognitive impairment and suppress apoptosis in the cerebral cortex by down-regulating Bax and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase expression and increasing Bcl-2 expression. CONCLUSIONS: Cur and Hes appear to attenuate Dg-induced brain aging via regulation of antioxidant enzymes and apoptosis. These results suggest that Cur and Hes may mediate neuroprotective effects in the aging process, and further study of these antioxidant polyphenolic compounds is warranted.
The neuromuscular reaction can be delayed and velocity of nerve conduction can be slowed with aging. General activities ate changed to be slowly due to the decreased proprioceptor. The exercise for preventing aging in sites of the muscle strengthening exercise for maintaining the ability of activity. balance exercise for preventing from falling down and breathing exercise for the ability of respiration. The exercise have to be done without caring about the place and time. also have to be done enjoyably than competitively.
The present study examined the effects of carbon monoxide (CO) intoxication and aging on learning and memory deficit in young($5{\sim}8$ weeks) and aged($52{\sim}66$ weeks) mice, using the step down and step through passive avoidance failure techniques. We also investigated the effects of ginseng saponins on memory deficit. Significant decrease in memory registration, retention and retrieval function in young mice and decrease in memory registration and retention function in aged mice were observed. Normal young mice were apt to perform to a great degree of passive avoidance response than normal aged mice, but there was no difference between both groups by CO exposure. Administration of ginseng saponins showed an improvement on passive avoidance failure induced by CO exposure.
