  • Long-span suspension bridges located in typhoon-prone regions face significant risks of flutter instability, particularly in girder erection. Despite the implementation of aerodynamic countermeasures designed for the service stage, the flutter stability of bridge in girder erection may not meet the required standards. Nowadays, the double-deck truss girder is increasingly common in practical engineering which exhibits different performance from the single-deck truss girder. To gain insights into the flutter performance of this girder type and determine temporary aerodynamic countermeasures for flutter suppression in girder erection, wind tunnel tests were conducted. The effects of affiliated members on the flutter performance were first examined. Subsequently, different aerodynamic countermeasures were designed and their effectiveness was tested. The results indicate that the stabilizers above and below the upper and lower decks are the most effective for the flutter stability of bridge at positive and negative angles of attack, respectively. The higher the stabilizers are, the better the effect on flutter suppression achieves. Considering the feasibility in practical engineering, a temporary stabilizer above the upper deck was considered. It is expected that the results could provide references for the aerodynamic design of double-deck truss girder during erection.

  • Barnwal and Paul(1988) derived the likelihood ratio statistic and $C(\alpha)$ statistic for testing the equality of the means of several groups of count data in the presence of a common dispersion parameter. These tests are generalized to be applicable without the restriction of a common dispersion parameter. And the assumed model of data is also extended from negative binomial to double exponential Poisson model. Monte Carlo simulations show the superiority of $C(\alpha)$ statistic based on the double exponential Poisson family which has a very simple form and requires estimates of the parameters only under the null hypothesis.

  • Distribution of farm produce in Korea is known to be inefficient due to the numerous stages that exist in the distribution channel. This has resulted in dissatisfaction for both farmer and consuers; farmers sell their produce at low prices to middlemen while consumers pay high prices for them because of price increases that occur in the distribution chain. We apply Spengler's theory of double marginalization to show that price increases are inevitable as the length of the farm distribution chain increases. We then show that the negative effects of double marginalization can be contained by setting up a physical distribution center. The physical distribution center effectively reduces the stages in the distribution from 5 or 6 stages to 3 or 4 stages. We also lay out the design and major characteristics of the distribution center, as well as the expected cost savings.

  • In this paper, we study the isomorphism problem of Cayley permutation graphs. We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition that two Cayley permutation graphs are isomrphic by a direction-preserving and color-preserving (positive/negative) natural isomorphism. The result says that if a graph G is the Cayley graph for a group $\Gamma$ then the number of direction-preserving and color-preserving positive natural isomorphism classes of Cayley permutation graphs of G is the number of double cosets of $\Gamma^\ell$ in $S_\Gamma$, where $S_\Gamma$ is the group of permutations on the elements of $\Gamma and \Gamma^\ell$ is the group of left translations by the elements of $\Gamma$. We obtain the number of the isomorphism classes by counting the double cosets.

  • Recent microwave IC's reach to the extent of high operating frequencies at which bonding wires limit their performance as dominant parasitic components. Double bonding wires separated by an internal angle have been firstly characterized using the Method of Moments with the incorporation of the ohmic resistance calculated by the phenomenological loss equivalence method. For a 30$^{\circ}$ internal angle, the calculated total reactance is 45% less than that of a single bonding wire due to the negative mutual coupling effect. The radiation effect has been observed decreasing the mutual inductance, whereas for parallel bonding wires it greatly increases the mutual inductance. This calculation results can be widely used for designing and packaging of high frequency and high density MMIC's and OEIC's.

  • On the basis of a simple modified Poisson-Boltzmann (SMPB) theory, taking into account the finite ionic size, the analytic expression for the effect of ionic size on the diffuse layer potential drop at negative charge densities has been given for the simple 1:1 electrolyte. It is shown that the potential drop across the diffuse layer depends on the size of the ions in the electrolyte. For a given electrolyte concentration and electrode charge density, the diffuse layer potential drop in a small ion system is smaller than that in a large ion system. It is also displayed that the diffuse layer potential drop is always less than the value of the Gouy-Chapman (GC) theory, and the deviation increases as the electrode charge density increases for a given electrolyte concentration. These theoretical results are consistent with the results of the Monte-Carlo simulation [Fawcett and Smagala, Electrochimica Acta 53, 5136 (2008)], which indicates the importance of including steric effects in modeling diffuse layer properties.

  • This paper conducts a study on the frequency-dependent filtering and blocking effects of a variety of periodic structures, dubbed frequency selective surface(FSS). The periodic structures of interest are 1D and 2D repeated patterns of metal patches or slots sitting on the interface between the two different regions in the layered media which will show the capacitive or inductive behaviors and incorporated with the electromagnetic bandgap(EBG) geometry as another stratified media. Besides the normal substances so called double positive(DPS)-type in the layered media, metamaterials of double negative(DNG) are considered as layering components on the purpose of investigating the unusual electromagnetic phenomena. Frequency responses of transmission(absorption in terms of scattering) and reflection will be calculated by a numerical analysis which can be validated by the comparison with the open literature and demonstrated for the periodic structures embedding metamaterials or not. Most importantly, numerous examples of FSS will present the useful guidelines to have absorption or reflection properties in the frequency domain.

  • We fabricated five type of electric double layer capacitor(EDLC) with extremely stable activated carbon as a positive and negative electrodes. The electrodes consisted of activated carbon and several different conductor layers on aluminium foil. Cyclic voltammogram of activated carbon electrodes at scan rate 5mV/sec was reversable redox reaction. The discharge capacity of activated carbon-KS 6 composite electrode was higher than that of activated carbon electrode without KS 6.

  • In this paper, a new CMOS on-chip current reference circit for memory, operational amplifiers, comparators, and data converters is proposed. The reference current is almost independent of temeprature and power-supply variations. In the proposed circuit, the current component with a positive temeprature coefficient cancels that with a negative temperature coefficient each other. While conventional curretn and voltage reference circuits require BiCMOS or bipolar process, the presented circuit can be integrated on a single chip with other digiral and analog circits using a standard CMOS process and an extra mask is not needed. The prototype is fabricated employing th esamsung 1.0um p-well double-poly double-metal CMOS process and the chip area is 300um${\times}$135 um. The proposed reference current circuit shows the temperature coefficient of 380 ppm/.deg. C with the temperature changes form 30$^{\circ}C$ to 80$^{\circ}C$, and the output variation of $\pm$ 1.4% with the supply voltage changes from 4.5 V to 5.5 V.

  • The use of the pulsed electro acoustic (PEA) method allowed us to perform the direct observations of spatio-temporal charge distributions in Electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs) based on polarizable nanoporous carbonaceous electrode. The negative charge density became the maximum, about 205 C/$m^3$ at the region where was near to collector layer in EDLCs for case $V_{DC}$ = 2.5 V, while the positively charged density became the maximum, about 61.1 C/$m^3$ at the region where it was located around the cathode layer. The PEA measurement used here is a very useful method to quantitively investigates the spatio-temporal charge distribution in EDLCs.
