  • Purpose: This study relates to the development of dot-sight device, whose length is reduced, with a prism beam splitter. Methods: We developed a new dot-sight device whose length was reduced by eliminating the optical axis tilt of the doublet reflector to reduce the occurrence of the parallax and by redesigning the doublet reflector to use a prism beam splitter. Results: We could develop the new type dot-sight device having a prism beam splitter and the dot reticle generator and the doublet reflector, of which optical axises showed a T-letter type with the optical axis of the observer's eye. Conclusions: In this study, we designed and developed a new type dot sight employing a prism beam splitter that could be able to further enhance the accuracy of the fire in comparison with the traditional dot sight, thereby reducing the overall optical length of system. The new designed dot sight was able to be reduced 2.2 times on the overall optical length, and could be improved more than three times on the accuracy of shooting in the horizontal direction, than the traditional dot sight.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is developing the dot sight with a $2{\times}$ magnification. Methods: To magnify the target when we see the far through the non-magnified dot sight, we develop the new optical device which is detachable to the non-magnified dot sight. A new optical device is designed to facilitate the transition of an existing non-magnification ($1{\times}$) dot sight to the $2{\times}$ magnification dot sight. Results: We could design and fabricate the $2{\times}$ afocal optical system which is detachable to the non-magnified dot sight and be composed by a pair of doublet. When the system developed in this study was used, we could aim the external target by twice magnification, so we could further improve the accuracy of aim. Conclusions: We could design and manufacture the $2{\times}$ afocal optical system which can be detachable to the non-magnified dot sight. With the results, we could aim the external target by twice magnification, so we could further improve the accuracy of aim.

  • Purpose: To develop a dot sight device for a sighting shot using the doublet reflector. Methods: We designed the singlet reflector and the doublet reflector by Sigma 2000 program and compared the one to the other. Results: In analysis of finite ray aberration, we could confirm that it has the effective field of view with the free-parallax which is 3.3 times wider than the existing dot sight device using the singlet reflector. If you use the doublet reflector, the central thickness of optical system become more than two times bigger than the existing one. As a result, when the image of a target object is made on the observer's retina, if you make the first side's radius of curvature equal with the second one as the case of the singlet reflector, changes in magnification are appeared. To conquer this problem, we had to make be satisfied with the afocal condition in the case of doublet reflector. Conclusions: we could develop the dot sight device for a sighting shot using the doublet reflector which has the effective field of view with the free-parallax which is 3.3 times wider than the existing dot sight device using the singlet reflector.

  • This study performed the quality improvement of a red dot sight for a 40 mm grenade launcher through parallax reduction. The red dot sight cited in this study is currently in mass production for military use as a non-weapon system. While the red dot sight's parallax currently meets requirements, slightly greater error was observed on the outside of effective optical area of the reflection lens compared to other sights. Parallax is easily affected by eye movement, which can result in aiming error. To improve the red dot sight's quality, this study analyzed why parallax is observed in the effective optical area of the reflection lens and how to reduce it. As a result, the red dot sight demonstrated lower parallax error using the new optical system design with an increased reflection lens thickness and modified components configuration related to the reflection lens assembly. Parallax was calculated and simulated by using a particular program to verify that it decreased. This improvement for the 40 mm. grenade launcher red dot sight more than satisfies requirements, offers advanced capabilities for users, and as a result, successful operation carryout.

  • Purpose: This study relates to the development of the day and night scope using the reflecting surface of a BS (beam splitting) prism. Methods: We have placed the LCD panel and the dot reticle generator to the top and bottom of the reflecting surface of the BS prism, and have placed a reflector, which is designed to doublet type, in the front of the BS prism. Doing so, we have developed a new type of day and night scope, which is able to image the virtual image of dot reticle from the dot reticle generator to the direction of the observer, to make the observer survey the peripheral information of the outside target by 1x magnification, and to make the observer survey the image of the LCD panel directly. Results: We could develope a new type of day and night scope, which has the function of night scope as thermal image display device at night time and the function of day scope as dot sight at day time, by letting the reflective surface of the BS prism have the role of dot sight which reflects the dot reticle and have the role of reflective optical system by which the observer surveys the night thermal image displayed in LCD panel. Conclusions: In this study, we have developed the new type of day and night scope which is able to play the role of the day or night scope selectively, combining the existing dot sight and the existing night scope by using the BS prism. By doing so, we could design and fabricate the new type of day and night scope with the BS prism which can further increase the rapidity of firing and provide more convenience in the mounting of a firearm than the detachable combination of an existing dot sight and an existing night scope.

  • Purpose: This study relates to the development of the prism dot-sight combined with the thermal imaging camera. Methods: We have placed a reflector designed to the doublet type in the front of a BS (beam splitting) prism, have placed an OLED panel and a dot reticle generator to the top and bottom of the reflecting surface of the BS prism, and have placed a detachable magnifier between the BS prism and the observer by which the observer can see the magnified image of the OLED panel. By doing this, we were able to configure the new type prism dot-sight combined with the thermal imaging camera. Results: By placing the removable magnifier designed with a new type between the BS prism and the observer, we could design the new type prism dot-sight which performs the role of the dot sight by removing the magnifier during the day-time, and performs the role of the night scope during the night-time by which we can observe the enlarged image of the thermal imaging camera through the BS prism by attaching the removable magnifier. Conclusions: In this study, we have developed the prism dot-sight combined with the thermal imaging camera which is able to play the role of the day or night scope selectively, by disposing the designed magnifier characterized by the focal length of 44 mm, the viewing angle of ${\pm}7.0^{\circ}$, and the MTF value of 0.5 or more at the criterion of 50 lp/mm and the 0.7 field between the BS prism and the observer. By doing so, we could design and fabricate the new type prism dot-sight combined with the thermal imaging camera which can further increase the rapidity of firing and provide more convenience in the mounting of a firearm than the detachable combination of an existing dot sight and an existing night scope.

  • We tried to design and manufacture a night scope which is used in the leisure sports field. The whole system consists of an IR light source part, an objective lens part, an intensifier tube part and an eye_piece lens part. We designed an objective lens part to the infinite object imaging optical-system with 80mm focal-length, 40mm effective-aperture and 14mm image-field-size of which the chromatic aberration is reduced by using materials of BK7 and FD4. The resolution of this system is about 25lines/mm at the 40% MTF value criterion. The eye_piece lens is adopted goods to be used commercially to save cost of production. The design technique which gets in this development will be utilized greatly in good developments of the dot, the sight and the day/night riflescope system at the hereafter.

  • Observations of a filament showing an activated barb recorded from the at the Dutch Open Telescope (DOT) on 2010 August 20 are presented. The filament developed a barb in 10 minutes, which disappeared within the next 35 minutes. Such a rapid formation and disappearance of a filament barb is unusual, and has been seldom reported. Line-of-sight velocity maps were constructed from images in seven line positions along the H-alpha line. We observe flows in the filament spine towards the barb location prior to its formation, and flows in the barb towards the spine during its disappearance. Photospheric magnetograms from Helioseismic Magnetic Imager on board the Solar Dynamics Observatory were used to determine the changes in magnetic flux in the region surrounding the barb location. The variation of magnetic flux in this duration support the view that barbs are rooted in minor magnetic polarity.
