Green Tea Catechin Causes an Weight Loss in Transgenic Mice Over-expressing Carboxyl Terminus of Amyloid Precusor Protein

  • Amyloid$\beta(A{\beta})$ has been reported have an effect on the induction of oxidative stress that involves the functional and structural abnormalities in Alzheimer's disease. As a role of a radical scavenger, a green tea treatment was found have some inhibitory effect on the neurodegenerative process. The aim of this study was to determine if green tea catechin (GTC) reduces in transgenic model. To test this, transgenic mice carrying neuronspecific enolase (NSE) controlled C-terminus (105) of APP (APP-C105) were created and treated them with a low ana high dose of GTC for 6 months. Herein, we conclude that transgenic mice expressing NSE/APP-C105 were successfully created and the GTC-treated group exhibited significant reduction in body weight. Thus, GTC might be a good prevention of obesity or good treatment for AD patient.

  • Puromycin aminonucleoside (PAN) nephropathy was induced in a group of Sprague-Dawley rat by a single dose of intraperitoneal Injection to study an ultrastructural change of glomerulus. The experimental rats developed proteinuria three days after PAN injection. Electron microscopic studies of glomeruli showed the loss of epithelial foot processes, formation of cytoplasmic vacuoles, microvillous formation and increased numbers of lysosomes in the cytoplasm of podocytes. It is strongly suggested that proteinuria in PAN nephrosis may be primarily due to a glomerular epithelial lesion, leading to focal disarray of anionic sites or focal defects in the epithelial covering of the basement membrane. The loss of anionic sites in the basement membrane nay be caused by the foot process fusion and the epithelial detachment from the basement membrane.

NH2Cl 사용으로 인한 RO 막의 성능 향상 (Effect of Feed Monochloramination on Performance of RO Membranes)

  • The 15 month pilot study was performed to investigate the effect of pretreatment by monochloramine ($NH_2Cl$) on the performance of RO membranes made of cellulose acetate (CA) and polyamide (PA). Both RO membranes experienced severe biological fouling without any pretreatment during the treatment of highly organic surface water in Florida, USA. Feed monochloramination at 5 mg/L significantly minimized productivity loss by effective control of biofouling. The CA membrane did not show any structural damages by monochloramine, while the PA membrane suffered from a gradual loss of membrane integrity by chlorine oxidation, which was characterized as an increase in productivity and a decrease in selectivity. The degradation of PA membrane increased with increasing monochloramine dose.

  • In this paper a communication system that is not using the communication line but power line is presented. It will be very useful for an information-oriented society with tele-metering and home automation. Conventional system has a difficulty in transmitting information due to decreasing communication voltage and increasing carrier, current. Proposed idea is a special type switching amplifier system which has a low inner resistance. It can provide reactive power and dose not have low impedance between the transceivers. This new system is proposed to overcome the loss of conductor load in a PLC system.

A case of alopecia areata after rabies vaccination: unreported adverse effect?

  • Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune-related disorder characterized by non-scarring hair loss in children. We report the case of a child who had AA after the fifth dose of rabies vaccine and summarized various potential mechanisms of vaccination induced AA. This case indicates that rabies vaccine might be a predisposition of AA by causing immune dysregulation.

개질 에폭시수지 및 수소 첨가된 비스페놀-A형 에폭시수지계 차폐재의 열적 및 역학적 성질에 미치는 방사선 영향 (Effects of Radiation on Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Modified Epoxy Resin and Hydrogenated Bisphenol-A Type Epoxy Resin Based Shielding Materials)

  • 방사성물질의 수송 및 저장용기 등에 사용하기 위하여 개발한 개질 에폭시수지 및 수소 첨가된 비스페놀-A형 에폭시수지계 중성자 차폐재들의 열분해온도, 열전도도, 열팽창 등의 열적 성질 및 인장강도, 압축강도, 굴곡강도, 비중, 무게변화, 수소 함량변화 등의 역학적 성질에 방사선이 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 방사선 조사선량의 증가에 따라 KNS(Kaeri Neutron Shield)-201과 KNS-302 차폐재들의 열분해온도는 증가하는 경향을 나타내었으나, KNS-202와 KNS-301은 0.5 MGy 이상에서는 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 또한 방사선 조사선량이 온도에 따른 차폐재들의 무게변화에는 거의 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 0.1 MGy까지 열전도도는 방사선 조사선량의 영향을 거의 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 KNS-301과 302 차폐재들의 열팽창은 KNS-201과 202보다 방사선 영향을 적게 받는 것으로 나타났다. 0.1 MGy까지는 방사선 조사선량의 증가에 따라 KNS-202 및 KNS-301과 302차폐재들의 인장, 압축 및 굴곡강도는 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 반면에 KNS-201은 방사선 조사선량의 증가에 따라 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 또한 조사선량의 증가에 따른 차폐재들의 비중, 무게 및 수소함량은 크게 변하지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

Effect of prohexadium-calcium on growth, lodging and yield of proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L.)

  • The proso millet is vulnerable to lodging due to high plant height and shallow root. A lodging results in a hard mechanical harvesting and yield loss. One of solutions on this problem is inhibition of internode elongation. The objective of this study was to set up use time and dose of prohexadium-calcium, is growth inhibitor. The experimental variety was Ibaekchal. The experiment design was a split-plot design with three replications. The treatments were as follow: Main-plots were 25 and 35 day after sowing(DAS) as use time and sub-plots were 0%, 50%, 100%(diluted solution of 1000 times, $1000{\ell}\;ha^{-1}$), 150% as dose. The amount of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium fertilization were 90, 70, $80kg\;ha^{-1}$, respectively. The size of high ridge and plant spacing were $90{\times}30cm$ and $60{\times}15cm$, respectively. Proso millet was sown on June 9, 2016 by hands and was adjusted at 2 plant per hill. The growth survey of vegetative growth stage was conducted at 1 day before treatment and with one week interval after treatment. Data were collected: (1) grain yield: weight of grain in $kg\;ha^{-1}$, (2) 1000 grain weight: average weight of 1000 grain, (3) plant height: distance from soil to top of panicle or leaf in cm, (4) ear length: distance from top of stem to top of ear in cm, (5) stem diameter: diameter of second internode (6) degree of lodging: percentage of lodging area, etc. Analyses of variance were performed using R version 3.3.1(https://www. r- project. org). The Duncan's multiple range test(DMR) was used to separate treatment means at P < 0.05. There was a significant difference in plant height and number of stem among the use time and dose of prohexadium-calcium during vegetative growth stage. At 25 DAS, the difference with no treatment increased until 25 day after treatment and decreased since then. The difference in number of stem increased until 18 day and decreased since 25 day. At 35 DAS, the difference with no treatment in plant height and number of stem increased until 22 day after treatment and decreased since then. We assumed that the effect of prohexadium-calcium was inhibition of internode elongation and promotion of tillering, continued untel 25day after treatment. At 25 DAS, the degree of lodging deceased to 100%, 30%, 10% and 0% as dose increased. At 35 DAS, the degree of lodging decreased to 100%, 20%, 0% and 0% as dose increased. At 25 DAS, the yield was 2910, 2710, 3190, $2310kg\;ha^{-1}$ among dose. At 35 DAS, the yield was 2750, 2630, 2220, $2050kg\;ha^{-1}$. We recommend that the optimum use time and dose of prohexadium-calcium for proso millet is 1000 times diluted solution of $1000{\ell}$ per ha at 25 day after sowing.

5-Day Repeated Intravenous Dose Toxicity Study of a New Camptothecin Anticancer Agent CKD-602 in Rats

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the potential adverse effects of CKD-602 by a 5-day repeated intravenous dose in Sprague-Dawley rats. The test article, CKD-602, was administered intravenously to male and female rats at dose levels of 0.07, 0.22, 0.67, 2.0 and 6.0 mg/kg/day for 5 days consecutively. Mortalities, clinical findings, and body weight changes were monitored for the 14-day period after cessation of the administration. At the end of 14-day observation period, all animals were sacrificed and complete gross postmortem examinations were performed. There were 2 and 5 treatment related deaths in the 0.67 and 2.0 mg/kg/day dose groups of both genders, respectively. Treatment related clinical signs, including hair loss, skin paleness, decreased locomotor activity, emaciation, and changes in stool were observed in a dose-dependent manner from the third day after initiation of the injection. Decrease or suppression of body weight was also observed dose-dependently in males and females of the treated groups. Gross postmortem examinations revealed a dose-dependent increase in the incidence and severity of atrophy or hypertrophy and white membrane formation in the spleen, atrophy of the thymus, diffuse white spots and paleness of the liver, paleness of the lung, kidney and adrenal gland, and dark red discoloration and dark red contents in the alimentary tract. Based on these results, it was concluded that the 5-repeated intravenous injection of CKD-602 to male and female rats resulted in increased incidence of abnormal clinical signs and death, decreased or suppressed body weight, and increased incidence of abnormal gross findings. In the present experimental conditions, the $LD_{50}$ value was 2.07 (95% confidence limit not specified) mg/kg/day in both genders and the $LD_{10}$ value was 1.72 (95% confidence limit not specified) mg/kg/day in both genders.

방사선(放射線) 조사(照射)에 의한 한국산(韓國産) 어류(魚類)의 품질보존(品質保存)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) -제2보(第2報) 민물어종(魚種)(잉어 및 무지게 송어)의 방사선조사(放射線照射)- (Irradiation Preservation of Korean Fishes -Part. II Radurization of Freshwater Species-)

  • 잉어(carp, Cyprinus carpio, Linne)와 무지개송어(rainbow trout, Salmo grairdnerii) 육편을 알미늄-포리에치렌 봉지에 포장하여 1.5 Mrad까지의 감마선에 조사처리하여 냉장온도에서의 저장기간을 현저히 연장 시킬수 있는 최적선량을 조사하였다. 잉어의 최고 허용선량은 1.5 Mrad 그리고 무지개송어는 0.2 Mrad 이었으며 최적선량은 각각 0.25 Mrad와 0.05 Mrad이었다. 이 최적선량에 조사처리 하므로써 잉어의 저장기간은 $0^{\circ}C$$5^{\circ}C$에서 공히 1주에서 5주로 연장될 수 있었으며 무지개 송어는 $0^{\circ}C$에서는 1주에서 3-4주로, $5^{\circ}C$에서는 3일에서 14일로 각각 연장될 수 있었다. 조사후 저장기간중 잉어는 체액유출(drip loss)이 심했으므로 조사전에 육편을 10% 나토륨 포리인산염액에 침지 처리한 다음 조사한 결과 거의 완전히 방지할 수 있었다. 무지개송어는 방사선조사에 대단히 민감하였으나 잉어는 조사후 냉장온도에서의 저장성 연장을 목적으로 하는 저선량 조사처리에 매우 적합한 어종임이 규명되었다.

저선량 흉부 CT를 이용한 VGGNet 폐기종 검출 유용성 평가 (Effectiveness of the Detection of Pulmonary Emphysema using VGGNet with Low-dose Chest Computed Tomography Images)

  • 본 연구에서는 저선량 흉부 CT 영상을 이용하여 VGGNet을 학습시키고 폐기종 검출 모델을 구현하고 성능을 확인하고자 한다. 연구에 사용된 저선량 흉부 CT 영상은 정상 진단 8000장, 폐기종 진단 3189장이며, 모델 학습을 위해 정상 데이터와 폐기종 데이터를 train, validation, test dataset으로 각각 60%, 24%, 16%로 무작위 추출하여 구분하였다. 학습을 위한 인공신경망은 VGGNet 중 VGG16과 VGG19를 사용하였으며, 학습이 완료된 모델 평가를 위해 정확도, 손실율, 오차 행렬, 정밀도, 재현율, 특이도, F1-score의 평가지표를 사용하였다. 폐기종 검출 정확도와 손실율은 VGG16과 VGG19 각각 92.35%, 95.88%, 0.21%, 0.09%, 정밀도는 91.60%, 96.55%, 재현율은 98.36%, 97.39%, 특이도는 77.08%, 92.72%, F1-score는 94.86%, 96.97%였다. 위의 평가지표를 통해 VGG19 모델의 폐기종 검출 성능이 VGG16 모델에 비해 우수하다고 판단된다. 본 연구를 통해 VGGNet과 인공신경망을 이용한 폐기종 검출 모델 연구에 기초자료로 사용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
