  • In this paper, we introduce a frame structure of the satellite TDMA network and the synchronization method thereof. The primary station transmits a special burst called reference burst which provides reference time to network. By using this reference burst all nodes achieve initial acquisition and synchronization. We consider time drift due to the node and satellite mobility, time shift due to the node position, Doppler shift due to the node mobility and frequency offsets as important factors of the frame structure. Simulation results show that the proposed frame structure and synchronization method guarantee accurate synchronization performance when the node is even in low SNR as well as 25 kHz frequency offsets.

  • Clustering is an effective method for improving the performance of large scale mobile ad hoc networks. However, when the moving speed is very fast, the topology changes quickly, which leads to frequent cluster topology updates. The drastically increasing control overheads severely threaten the throughput of the network. SCBCS (Signal Characteristic Based Cluster Scheme) is proposed as a method to potentially reduce the control overheads caused by cluster formation and maintenance in aeronautical ad hoc networks. Each node periodically broadcasts Hello packets. The Hello packets can be replaced by data packets, which preserve bandwidth. The characteristics of the received packets, such as the Doppler shift and the power of two successive Hello packets, help to calculate the relative speed and direction of motion. Then, the link connection lifetime is estimated by the relative speed and direction of motion. In the clustering formation procedure, the node with the longest estimated link connection time to its one-hop neighbors is chosen as the cluster head. In the cluster maintenance procedure, re-affiliation and re-clustering schemes are designed to keep the clusters more stable. The re-clustering phenomenon is reduced by limiting the ripple effect. Simulations have shown that SCBCS prolongs the link connection lifetime and the cluster lifetime, which can reduce the topology update overheads in highly dynamic aeronautical ad hoc networks.

  • Using OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) provides the same diversity order as MRRC(Maximal Ratio Receiver Combining). It is assumed that fading channel is constant across two consecutive symbols. Unfortunately, when the channel condition is changed for the two consecutive symbols, the OFDM using STBC(Space Time Block Code) does not offer good performance due to the large doppler shift. In this paper, we have proposed a performance enhancement scheme for OFDM using STBC over time-selective fading channel. Simulation results for various doppler shift rates are presented to robust system performance of OFDM due to using our proposed scheme over time-selective fading channel.

  • Introduction: A post-traumatic mesenteric arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is extremely rare. Case Report: A previously healthy 26-year-old male was injured with an abdominal stab wound. Computed tomography (CT) showed liver injury, pancreas injury and a retropancreatic hematoma. We performed the hemostasis of the bleeding due to the liver injury, a distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy and evacuation of the retropancreatic hematoma. On the 5th postoperative day, an abdominal bruit and thrill was detected. CT and angiography showed an AVF between the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and the inferior mesenteric vein with early enhancement of the portal vein (PV). The point of the AVF was about 4 cm from the SMA's orifice. After an emergent laparotomy and inframesocolic approach, the isolation of the SMA was performed by dissection and ligation of adjacent mesenteric tissues which was about 6 cm length from the nearby SMA orifice, preserving the major side branches of the SMA, because the exact point of the AVF could not be identified despite the shunt flow in the PV being audible during an intraoperative hand-held Doppler-shift measurement. After that, the shunt flow could not be detected by using an intraoperative hand-held Doppler-shift measuring device. CT two and a half months later showed no AVF. There were no major complications during a 19-month follow-up period. Conclusion: Early management of a post-traumatic mesenteric AVF is essential to avoid complications such as hemorrhage, congestive heart failure and portal hypertension.

  • A new coherent detection scheme with data based channel estimation (DBCE) for CDMA/BP(staggered burst pilot in parallel) channel structure is proposed. Because the pilot burst initiates DBCE operation periodically it is shown to be remarkably stable to Gaussian noise and Doppler shift with proper parameter settings. In our own system parameter setting, there is a negligible loss(0.068 dB) in $E_{b}/N_{o}$ by the introduction of the burst pilot. When compared with an ideal coherent detection, the required $E_{b}/N_{o}$ on Doppler shift corresponding to the speed of 160Km/H is degraded less that 2.0 dB. the burst pilot can be implemented without complexity even though some extra correlators are needed for DBCE. This improvement is superior to the previously coherent CDMA detectors with external or internal pilot.

  • Analysis of the contribution of each pass-by noise source to the overall pass-by noise is an important issue for reduction of pass-by noise. A technical approach for predicting tailpipe noise is used to identify the contribution of tailpipe noise to the pass-by noise in this study. Simulation program with a time domain engine modeling program called 'WAVE' and wave propagation theory of moving noise source are employed. Since the Doppler phenomenon causes a frequency shift during a pass-by noise test, the Doppler correction and time delay effects are incorporated into the estimation of tailpipe noise. The developed program can furnish an in-depth understanding of the effect of tailpipe to pass-by noise.

  • This paper presents the direction finding proximity fuze sensor using the clutter rejection method and the adaptive target detection algorithm for anti-air missiles. To remove effects by clutter and detect a target accurately, the clutter rejection method of Legendre sequence with BPSK(Bi phase Shift Keying) modulation has been proposed and the Doppler signal which has cross correlation characteristics is obtained from reflected target signals. Considering the change of the Doppler signal, the adaptive target detection algorithm has been developed and the direction finding algorithm has been fulfilled by comparing received powers from adjacent three receiving antennas. The encounter simulation test apparatus was made to collect and analyze reflected signal and test results showed that the -10 dBsm target was detected over 10 meters and the target with mesh clutter was detected and direction was distinguished definitely.

  • This paper deals with a method of transmitting depth information of a high-speed underwater vehicle. The depth information signal transmitted from the high-speed mobile object is received with high frequency variability. In the proposed method, we apply not only frequency synchronization but also additional synchronization on the time axis like the existing method. In the case of a Doppler frequency bank with less resolution than the conventional method through simulations performed in the environment moving up to 50 kn, and the depth information is recovered using the proposed method, the error rate of 6 % ~ 9 % is reduced to 0.2 % ~ 1 %.

  • The 9.17MeV gamma-rays from the $^{13}C(p,\;{\gamma})^{14}N,\;^{14}N({\gamma},\;{\gamma})^{14}N$ reactions were measured. The incident 9.17MeV gamma-ray was produced from the $^{13}C(p,\;{\gamma})^{14}N$ reaction at Ep=1.75MeV resonance. The 1.75MeV proton beam was accelerated using the 3MV SNU-AMS Tandetron and 1.7MV KIGAM Tandem accelerators. The enriched 13C target was $121{\mu}g/cm^2$ self-supporting foil, and we used liquid nitrogen as a resonant absorption target. We used a HP-Ge detector with 30% efficiency and less 2keV energy resolution. We developed new method to detect the scattered 9.17MeV gamma-ray from the nitrogen target by using the energy difference between the Doppler shifted gamma-ray from the $^{13}C(p,\;{\gamma})^{14}N$ reaction and the resonant absorbed and rescattered gamma-ray from the $^{14}N({\gamma},\;{\gamma})^{14}N$ reaction.
