  • Monopulse active homing radar requires velocity and angle information of target to track fast moving target. Target velocity can be estimated by measuring the frequency shift between transmitted and received frequencies. Angle information is obtained by measuring boresight error. Measurement of doppler frequency component in received signal is done through FFT analysis and interpolation algorithm for fine tuning. Boresight errors in azimuth and elevation axes are proportional to the power of each difference channel relative to sum channel. The target signal power in difference channel is estimated more precisely by measuring the power of FFT result cell of maximum ...

  • In this research, the velocity distribution of the liquid sheet formed by two impinging jets at low velocities are measured using LDV. The spatial distribution of the sheet velocity as well as the effects of impinging anlge and jet velocity on the sheet velocity are examined. The sheet velocity is highest along the sheet axis and it decreases with the increase of the azimuthal angle. With the increase of the impinging angle, the average sheet velocity is decreased due to the increased impact momentum. The average sheet velocity is proportional to the jet velocity but it is always higher than the jet velocity. This result is against the fact that the sheet velocity can be assumed to be equal to the jet velocity in the previous researches.

  • The microwave sensor in which the sensitivity was excellent and a structure is simple was developed and it manufactured. And the sensing range that uses the developed product was confirmed. When the developed microwave sensor was set up in the ceiling of a building, we confirmed that the amplitude of the sensitive area increased as the tilting angle was enlarged. The sensitive area became a greatest in case the tilting angle was 65 degree. According to the height of a ceiling, because the sensing range is determined, in case of using in the building in which the height of a ceiling is enough secured it is determined to secure the more wide sensitive area. Moreover, the configuration of the circuit having the simple structure makes the miniaturization of a product, and the light weight possible. It is considered to have the price competitive power which it reduces the manufacturing cost, is sufficient.

  • Radar clutter in real environment is in general heterogeneous and especially nonstationary if radar geometry is of non-sidelooking monostatic structure or bistatic structure. These clutter properties lead to the insufficient number of secondary data of IID(Independent identically distributed) property, conclusively deteriorate clutter suppression performance. In this paper, we propose a clutter suppression algorithm that estimates the clutter signal belonging to cull under test via calculation using only prior information, rather than using the secondary data. Through analyzing the angle-Doppler spectrum of the clutter signal, we show the estimation of the clutter signal using prior information only is possible and present the derivation of a clutter suppression algorithm through eigen-value analysis. Finally, we show the performance of the proposed algorithm by simulation.

  • Recently, several studies were conducted on the micro-Doppler(MD) phenomenon to identify a warhead from decoys. Both, the warhead and decoy, can be modeled as various shapes and maneuver with their own micro-motion. Their MD phenomenon can be demonstrated by amplitude modulation and phase modulation. Most studies have utilized approximate solutions to express the amplitude modulation regardless of various warhead and decoy shapes. However, the exact solution of the amplitude modulation is required for more effective warhead identification. In this study, we proposed a new modeling method of receiving radar signals from warheads and decoys based on physical optics. The proposed solution was evaluated using an electromagnetic prediction technique and computer-aided design models.

  • The droplet and the turbulent characteristics of a counterflowing internal mixing pneumatic nozzle mainly focused. The measurements were made using a Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer under the different air pressures. The nozzle with tangential-drilled holes at an angle of 30 to the central axis has been designed. The spatial distributions of velocities, fluctuating velocities, droplet diameters and SMD were quantitatively and qualitatively fluctuating velocities were substantially higher than the radial and the tangential ones. This implies that the disintegration process is enhanced with the higher air pressure. The larger droplets were detected near the spray centerline at the upstream while the smaller ones were generated at the downstream. This was attributed to the lower rates of spherical particles which were not subject to instantaneous breakup. However, substantial increases in SMD from the central part tower spray periphery were predictable in downstream regions.

  • Two-dimensional, angle-resolved LDV(Laser Doppler Velocimetry) measurements of the turbulent rotating flow field in a confined cylinder have been performed. The configurations of interest are flows between a rotating upper disk with a rod attached by a disk or impeller($\theta$ = 45$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}$) and a stationary lower disk in a confined cylinder. The mean flow velocity as well as the turbulent intensity of the flow field have been measured. The results show that the flow is strongly dependent on the position of the impellers or the disk, negligibly affected by the Reynolds number in turbulent flow. It is observed that the mixing effect of the axial flow impeller($\theta$ = 45$^{\circ}$) is better than that of the radial flow impeller($\theta$ = 90$^{\circ}$) or a disk.

  • Experimental and numerical studies for three-dimensional pulsatile flows are conducted to investigate the flow characteristics in the bifurcated tubes. Velocity measurements in experimental study were made by both Pulsed Doppler Ultrasound(PDU) machine and Laser Doppler Anemometer(LDA) system. Glycerin is used for experimental study. Experimental results are used to verify the results of the numerical simulation. Flow characteristics of Newtonian fluid and blood in the bifurcated tubes under the steady and pulsatlie flows are numerically investigated. Finite volume method is employed for three-dimensional numerical simulations. Blood is considered as a non-Newtonian fluid and the constitutive equation of blood is used for the numerical analysis. Numerical analyses are focused on the flow patterns for various branch angles ranging from 30.deg. to 90.deg. and diameter ratios such as 1.0, 0.8, and 0.6. Pulsatile flow characteristics of blood are compared with those of Newtonian fluid. Parameter effects on axial velocity, pressure and wall shear stress distribution along the bifurcated tubes are discussed in terms of the branch angle, diameter ratio, and Reynolds number.

  • It is well known that the flow and spray characteristics is critical factor on the performance and emission of a direct injection diesel engine. So this study aims to investigate the interaction of flow and spray characteristics. At first, in cylinder flow distributions in swirl adaptor for 4-valve cylinder head of DI Diesel engine were investigated under steady conditions for different SCV angles mounted on the cylinder head with steady rig test and 2-D LDV. And the in-cylinder flow was quantified in terms of mean flow coefficient and swirl ratio/tumble ratio. It was found that the swirl ratio is controlled between 2.3 and 3.8. Then spray characteristics of the intermittent injection were investigated. PDA system was utilized for measurement of a droplet size and velocity. The analyses of the PDA results are carried out with Time Dividing Method. It was found that there is a correlation between the swirl flow and SMD. The droplet size and the velocity were nearly constant value with each SCV angle. And the swirl ratio is higher, SMD smaller. The swirl ratio was helpful factor to the atomization of droplet.

  • In this paper, the techniques for target state analysis based on a single ping in the ocean environment are proposed and discussed. The first method utilizes the relationship between range and bearing in order to determine the aspect angle of target. The second method uses the Range-Doppler Map. The former method requires the multi-channel data, while the latter uses single channel data. It is concluded, from the simulation, that the target state analysis is quite possible and the techniques mentioned should be used simultaneously to get the improved results.
