In this paper, a signal processing algorithm for software GPS receiver is proposed. The signal processor takes snapshot of the sampled If signal from the RF section of the GPS receiver. All the processing for code and carrier tracking and correlation are implemented using the digital signal processing techniques. In order to achieve fast code acquisition, correlation of the incoming GPS signal is performed using the FFT method, After code acquisition, to reduce the Doppler shift effect and increase the accuracy, the interpolation or the tracking are performed. The performance of the proposed processing algorithm is first evaluated using matlab/simulink. A signal acquisition board for sampling and logging GPS IF signal form the Mitel GPS RF chip set is constructed. In order to analyze the performance of the designed algorithm the experiments are performed and the results are analyzed.

Recently, collision avoidance systems are under development to reduce the traffic accidents and driver comfort for automotive radar. Pulse radar can detect their range and velocities of moving vehicles using range gate and FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) of the doppler frequency. We designed the real time DSP(Digital Signal Processing) based automotive UWB(Ultra Wideband) radar, and implemented DSP to detect the range and velocity within 100ms for real time system of the automotive UWB radar. We also measured the range and velocity of a moving vehicle using designed automotive UWB radar in a real road environment.
Even though various types of sensors are being used for security applications, radar sensors are being suggested as an alternative due to the privacy issues. Among those radar sensors, PD radar has high-complexity receiver, but, FMCW radar requires fewer resources. However, FMCW has disadvantage from the use of 2D-FFT which increases the complexity, and it is difficult to distinguish people from objects those are stationary. In this paper, we present the design and the implementation results of the radar signal processor (RSP) that can distinguish between people and object by respiration measurement using phase estimation without 2D-FFT. The proposed RSP is designed with Verilog-HDL and is implemented on FPGA device. It was confirmed that the proposed RSP includes 6,425 LUT, 4,243 register, and 12,288 memory bits with 92.1% accuracy for target's breathing status.
In ocean acoustic tomography (OAT), the pulse compression techniques using M-sequences are employed in the many studies for investigating the ocean structures. M-sequences can provide the good time and Doppler resolution in the process of demodulation using matched-filter. The signal-to-noise (SNR) performance at the output of receiver may be improved by manipulating received signal, i. e. coherently averaging. The processing time can be significantly reduced by using fast hadarmard transform (FHT) or fast Fourier transform (FFT). In this paper, we estimate the multipath arrival structures and delay times using the East Korean Sea experiment data and explore the compensation method for the detrimental effects on performance due to sampling rate error. We also analyze the characteristics of the ocean acoustic channels through scattering function, delay power profile, and time dispersions.

A FM-CW radar is used for the various purposes as a remote sensing device since it has the advantages of the relatively simple implementation and the low probability of signal interception. A FM-CW radar uses the same frequency modulated continuous wave for both transmission and demodulation. Therefore, the received beat frequency represents the range and Doppler information of targets. However, using the conventional FFT method, the degree of accuracy and resolution in the spectrum estimation can be seriously degraded in the detection and tracking of fast moving targets because of the short dwell time. Therefore, in this paper, the model parameter estimation methods called as an autoregressive method is applied to overcome these problems and showed that the improved accuracy and resolution can be obtained for the target range and velocity estimation.
In this paper, an area-efficient feature extractor was proposed for security surveillance radar systems and FPGA-based implementation results were presented. In order to reduce the memory requirements, features extracted from Doppler profile for FFT window-size are used, while those extracted from total spectrogram for frame-size are excluded. The proposed feature extractor was design using Verilog-HDL and implemented with Xilinx Zynq-7000 FPGA device. Implementation results show that the proposed design can reduce the logic slice and memory requirements by 58.3% and 98.3%, respectively, compared with the existing research. In addition, security surveillance radar system with the proposed feature extractor was implemented and experiments to classify car, bicycle, human and kickboard were performed. It is confirmed from these experiments that the accuracy of classification is 93.4%.
We measured the flow at peripheral blood vessel of finger dorsum surface using noninvasive LDF(Laser Doppler Flowmeter). We investigated the flow properties between the normal and the diabetic with the Amplitude Spectral Densities of FFT analysis. We classified the diabetic as four groups of negative neuropathy, positive neuropathy, hyperthyroid and hypothyroid. And tested the neuropathic and thyroid effects of peripheral blood flow. As the results, the diabetic, the positive neuropathic and the hypothyroid respectively showed the abnormal blood flow properties on the contrary of the normal flow of negative neuropathic and hyperthyroid.

In this paper, we investigate the correlation result due to the problems of delay tracking and fringe rotation module in the VCS(VLBI Correlation Subsystem). The VCS, FX-type correlator, adopts the delay tracking and fringe rotation module in order to compensate the delay change and fringe phase of wave signal from the radio source by Doppler's effect. The phase of observed data is also compensated by means of delay tracking and fringe rotation in the correlator, but we confirmed that the phase is unstable by applying long integration period of AIPS(Astronomical Image Processing System) rather than correlator. And the delay value of observed data has the errors of several tens nanoseconds than normal case at the analysis of correlation result. In addition, we found that the phase of correlation results is not connected as the unit of FFT-segment because the initial fringe phase at the fringe rotation module is not correctly determined. In this paper, in order to solve these problems, the original direction of 90 degree phase jump is reversely modified when the bit-shift occurred at the delay tracking. And the initial fringe phase at the fringe rotation module is correctly modified by using the initial phase of observed data. In addition, the parameter calculation module was abnormally operated as designed in the fringe rotation. So, the logical program by the VCS is modified so as to calculate the parameters correctly. Through the experiments of correlation processing over the above problems, the modified proposal algorithm is adequately corrected to the data analysis results, so that the experimental results make it clear for us to operate the developed VCS hardware correlator normally.

Recently, a FMCW radar is used for the various purposes in the short range detection and tracking of targets. The main advantages of a FMCWradar are the comparative simplicity of implementation and the low peak power transmission characterizing the very low probability of signal interception. Since it uses the frequency modulated continuous wave for transmission and demodulation, the received beat frequency represents the range and Doppler information of targets. Detection and extraction of useful information from targets are performed in this beat frequency domain. Therefore, the resolution and accuracy in the estimation of a beat spectrum are very important. However, using the conventional FFT estimation method, the high resolution spectrum estimation with a low sidelobe level is not possible if the acquisition time is very short in receiving target echoes. This kind of problems deteriorates the detection performance of adjacent targets having the large magnitude differences in return echoes and also degrades the reliability of the extracted information. Therefore, in this paper, the model parameter estimation methods such as autoregressive and eigenvector spectrum estimation are applied to mitigate these problems. Also, simulation results are compared and analyzed for further improvement.

The observation system has been developed to investigate the rip currents at Haeundae beach using X-band marine radar. X-band radar system can observe shape, size, and velocity of rip currents, which is difficult to obtain through field observation by conventional device. Algorithms which automatically detect locations, shapes, and magnitudes of rip currents were developed using time averaged X-band radar sea clutter images. X-band sea clutter images are transformed through 3D FFT into 2D wave number spectrum and frequency spectrum. Rip current velocities were estimated using differences in wave-number spectra and wave frequency spectra due to Doppler shift. The algorithm was verified by drift experiments. At Haeundae beach, the radar system exactly located the rip currents and found to be sustained for 1-2 days at fixed locations.
